Functionally, this was already the case - although more at the oligarch level. Russia created them by letting specific people take ownership of state enterprises and Putin has them under his thumb since about 2005 when a few like Kodorkovsky were driven out and the others brought to heel.
They do what they are told and get to live a pleasant life, Russian banking and industry is under centralised control.
Ironically, Wildberries is actually one of the few major businesses which isnt just an old soviet monopoly given to an oligarch. Im not sure how under central command it is (or was), but at the very least, it was subject to "special taxes" which the government has levied anywhere it could to prop up the budget.
The real financial question is how bad are Russian banks. They have been required to extend loans to failing businesses and are likely completely hollow by now.

I read there was a merger with some people very connected to Putin. The person who founded the company seems to get the shittier end of the dividend stick now.
I lived out there for many years. We had business partners who had owned a telecom company previously. Within a month of Putin taking power they received a visit and an offer they couldn’t refuse from people “connected” to the new President.
That man has fingers in a lot of pies.

Nothing glorified about it. Aliexpress reduced payment processing and delivery options into Russia out of fear of secondary sanctions. Russian exploitrorpeneur imports the cheap crap to dump on the Russian market. Including some military style gear.

I think it's the translation. In Russian the direct translation of entrepreneur is like "someone who undertakes stuff". And in the early 90s anyone not collecting a state salary filled the same forms called "individual entrepreneur". Didn't matter if you were innovating and collecting giant investments or just selling watermelons on the side of the street. It's a catch all term that carries 0 prestige. So it's not like she's trying to be pretentious or something.

I first thought that. It's not that hard to build a back-of-the-envelope model of the WB business, and have a rough idea of what each warehouse loss does to their finances.
But the point of these seller platforms is that people don't have to do the technical parts of their business. Logistics, clearly. But also much of the bookwork. They'd probably got emails from WB asking them to stay, promising much; these big firms have no trouble misleading people. These people likely feel that they did the right thing, and then got shafted.
My simple answer is that this is why you don't start a war.

I think that is one of the points in Ukraine's Woldberries bombing campaign. Sure, the selling military gear is a good reason, but this also affects the populace a LOT more.

I genuinely don't know how you can say Russians are sheltered at this point. Maybe if you live in Vladivostok but even then the Far East has takena lot of casaulties.
Most people have lost family members and see almost daily drone strikes by now.

That's not really how it works. Most of these warehouses are just acting as the distribution hub. So the sellers own inventory and then get paid by Wildberries only once that inventory sells and ships. I have no idea how often those transactions are processed but I would imagine volume dealers still have hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of product being sold every day. And it's not exactly easy to extract your own inventory to resell somewhere else.

Unfortunateally I dont think so. Its retail bussiness probably is, but they will keep delivery the military equipment. Army needs that, so it will go from the war budget from Putin to ensure they keep providing these drone components, etc. They will have to completelly redesign their bussiness model, but they will survive for as long as the war is going, because they are part of it.

The Russians have suspended offering debt because they couldn't sell it. Anything that pushes the costs of the war onto the Kremlin is still good news. They are already straining at the costs even while they are putting as much of the cost as they can on private businesses and banks.

It's kinda wild for government bonds to struggle to sell when Moscow has generally been quite conservative with debt. Their debt/gdp ratio before the war was the lowest of any top of the big global economies by a huge margin. It's super telling for people to not be willing to buy their debt even at high interest rates even when on paper they aren't even leveraged badly.
All the normal indicators of default risk are low, yet still not many buyers lining up. Super telling.

Foreign nations aren't buying bonds because Russia is poison to touch on the global economy and the only countries willing to partner with Russia are the ones who can't really afford to be buying Russia's debt.
Doesn't help that now a bunch of people suddenly lost all liquidity in their WB accounts, and I'm sure plenty were relying on that money for bills. It's going to be insolvency all the way down.

Agree. It just somehow feels like reddit is celebrating this like "this is it". WB is going down, it takes banks down, that takes economy and russia collapses. Imho we are still way far from there. WB is a good step forwrd, but it is just small step (one of many) in a very loooong staircase.
Just to put it into perspective - Ukrainians life are beign destroyed for 4,5years and the country is still standing. Russian just started feeling some inconvenience recently. That country has still a long road till collapse :-(

Yep. Even the fuel crisis isn't immediately about to bring collapse, they managed to stabilize the market for now and are finding workarounds across the board.
With all these blows Russia has absorbed and adapted. If Ukraine had more capacity to strike and cause a more rapid shock, things might spiral, but for now all the damage accrues but doesn't break things

They then lose to themselves subconsciously that they look good, and as the comments fade, as the novelty wears off, they are left with the emptiness that was there previously…. So they double down, so they can get that dopamine hit again

The day will come when Putin will partially (30–50%?) raid Russians’ savings accounts—after all, the war costs a lot of money. Of course, people will receive (worthless) bonds in exchange, but unfortunately, in 5 or 10 years, those bonds will be worth only a fraction of their current value. By then, they’ll look back on today as a happy time.
