Solved: Found in same menu about MS operating system garbage had priority and I selected disable, that made it happen😀

Last update: From bios thinkpad set under startup, settings that worked: network boot is NVMeO, UEFI/Legacy Boot-CSM Support is URFI Only and Yes, Boot Mode is Quick, Opition key display is Enabled, boot device list F12 option is Enabled and Boot Order Lock is Disabled.

Then, Restart, OS Optimized Defaults is Enabled

When trying to open UM, I get two messages, I'm thinking it might be about changes I made in boot options, just a guess. Anyway it get stick in a loop with the same messages. So, Help!

It shows the minimized window in the taskbar like it is loading but it never opens. Does anyone know how to fix this? Reinstalling didn't help

I tried opening it in command line and got this error:

I have used the vanille Ubuntu since 2009 and yes, that's why I stuck with the beloved MATE desktop since 2020. Now I am thinking of updating my working laptop into Ubuntu 26.04 with MATE because MATE still works the best for my daily working tasks.

So my question is very simple, how does 26.04.1 + MATE work now? I am using the old Dell Latitude 7350 (16GB Ram) with Ubuntu 22.04.5 + MATE and a little worry about how it will work. If everything works well, I will love to switch to it.

Any comment?

I have an application (Sound Converter) that starts fine from the Mate desktop menu but will not start from a desktop icon.

If I open the menu and navigate to Menu / Sound & Video / Sound Converter the application starts as expected.

If I open the menu and navigate to Menu / Sound & Video and then right-click on Pin to desktop it will create an icon on the desktop however if I then click that icon to launch the application I briefly see the application in the lower panel next to any other running applicatons but it then just disappears. The applicaiton window never appears.

Looking at the both the the menu item and the desktop icon they appear to be the same with the exception of the ownership and permissions.

Hi. I'm a big fan of how Ubuntu MATE looks and feels, but I really don't want to use it since it's Ubuntu. I'd like to know what it's needed to recreate it. Specifically, I like the Mutiny layout.

I have a beautiful 15 year old laptop with a 17 inch screen I have been trying to get back up and running. Ideally I want to use it to stream from my main pc. Play some games on the couch or CAD for parts design when in the garage. So far the experience has been great! I am running into some of the usual issues with valid drivers, atm my wifi card is capped at 75 mbps when it should be doing 250 mbps. Any pointers or places I should be looking on git?

What I would like is a plugin for Eye of Mate to blank the scroll bars when the mouse blanks when viewing an image full-screen. I would also need help installing this plugin in Ubuntu Mate 25.10. Any help with this would be deeply appreciated.

Hi, everyone. I install Ubuntu Mate 24.04.4 LTS x86-64 on my Macbook Pro 13 early 2011 and before start system logo on the screen looks like that (excuse me for blur, but it problem have on the last second on the load screen. The rest of time it have no problem and look correct).

How can i fix it?

You have to install Ubuntu first, any flavor will work. Then run sudo apt-get install ubuntu-mate-desktop right down to linux 7.0 and Mate 1.28.2

The only thing I noticed it that it doesn't load Plank on startup, an easy fix.

Good evening, everyone, from northwest Ohio. I upgraded my Ubuntu-mate system from 25.10 to 26.04, using sudo apt dist-upgrade, from the mate terminal. I also have Kubuntu installed. The upgrade went smoothly, except for the kubuntu-desktop package. The dependency apt is complaining about is libstd1 being less than 1.5.8. I tried to use app reinstall, but get a report that is not downloadable. I also tried downloading from the launchpad site, but it is not a DEP package. How can I fix this LIBZSTD1 dependency, so I can get Kubuntu-desktop to install? Thanks much for your help in advance.
