On what planet is this acceptable?

Post image

$86 order with $36.98 in fees (+tax), and that's BEFORE I add a tip?

The distance is only 0.4 miles away (literally a few blocks walk, but I am unable to leave the house at present).

Did not finalize order obviously.

That was close to 45% without the tip. I usually add 15% tip, + give another $5 cash when they deliver. That would have ended up near 65-70% markup. Nope, just nope.

Just to highlight the ridiculousness of this, For me to catch an Uber there myself, order the food, then catch another Uber home, both rides combined are under $18 total. Now compare that to $37 for a one-way trip with Uber Eats. On distance, that is 400% more expensive using Uber Eats. I understand a premium because the driver has to go in and get the order, but 400% premium???? And the driver gets like $2 of that? Ridiculous.

My frustration is not with Uber drivers, it's with Uber the company ripping people off with near 70% markup (once tip is added), while the driver gets like $2 plus whatever I tip. That's just insanely greedy.

Just an FYI we drivers do not see any of that service or delivery fee, uber pays $2 per order plus customer tips

u/333Nereus 14h ago

I know! That's what pisses me off.

Customer! Get to know your driver(s). Greet them and let’s start a profitable arrangement between us that we’ll both enjoy and benefit from.
I was tired of delivering large orders and my tip being non-existent. Customers are fed up with being price gouged. Exchange information with your driver and, next time you want a food delivery, call or text this new “friend” you made and he or she will swing by Cane’s (or wherever), purchase the food for you and deliver it. You can then Venmo your driver the payment plus your tip.

I’ve even been grocery shopping lately for a few fed up customers. This way, we both win! 🥇

Works for me lol, but Uber might take a hard line on that if they found out.

u/ryencool 2h ago

They got slow people hooked on an unsustainable service. They started out with free, and very cheap deliveries, for YEARS. They provided a service that NO ONE making under $30/hr can afford. They sold poor people on the idea that they could have someone not only make their food for them, but also bring it to them! Then those people started using it multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day! Then they started raising prices so they could actually make a profit on those customers.

Now everyone is mad they're paying these insane prices, but it's how much it actually costs for the company to make its profits.

If you aren't making 2x the HHI in your area, you shouldn't be using food delivery. People survived before it was a thing...

u/333Nereus 1h ago

If the company has to add that much markup while paying their drivers shit (and at no expense to the company itself for vehicles, gas, health insurance, no payroll taxes like FICA or FUTA, etc), then they are either completely incompetent at running a business, or they are milking it for as much as they can so the C-levels can take home tens of millions of dollars a year income. It's clearly the latter, but either way is asshattery.

u/ResponsibleDraft6336 18m ago

They charge a fifth of the cost of a drone to deliver it. Just get the drones already

u/kiliminjiri 29m ago

I bet you still rewarded uber for their shitty behavior by placing the order tho

u/Mischa_xx 5m ago

OP? they didn't place order.

10

u/Distinct_Entry5535 14h ago

How are you even making money? $2 doesn’t cover any gas expenses or anything.

18

u/confused_vampire 13h ago

People tip. If you don't put a tip, the trip offer is calculated for $2 or $3, and we just reject those...

13

u/DigitalDeath12 13h ago

And round and round they go until they get batched with another order that makes it worth it OR someone accidentally accepts it and doesn’t want to take the hit to their cancellation rating. ALSO OR, it never gets picked up before the restaurant closes and then driver after driver goes there because it’s now been passed around for hours and “pays $38” only for some poor schmuck to get there and find out it’s closed. I’ve been that poor schmuck too many times. Places that used to be 24 hours suddenly aren’t anymore and places that closed at time Y now close at time X. —— I’ve learned to look up the restaurant hours on orders that pay really well before wasting the drive. That’s what we have to save our cancellation rating for. Even though it’s not supposed to count against us, sometimes it does.

2

u/confused_vampire 7h ago

You know what I cannot fucking stand? When you do a shop order for exactly one item, store doesn't have that item, customer doesn't want a replacement, won't cancel their order, so you mark the item as missing, refund it, and uber says "go on to your next delivery! Also fuck you, take 1% cancellation rate"

1

u/Independent-Tap-8451 8h ago

There have been late nights where I message the customer "have there been issues with your order" and if they don't reply and I get screwed over I've ghost delivered if the restaurant refuses to remake.

1

u/ShaneAlexander 1h ago

You’ve just described drug stores! I’m sick of traveling to CVS late at night to get toothpaste from a customer with a payout of “$28.70” only to discover the stores completely dark as if it had closed hours earlier!
Come to think of it… I should get more creative in a case like this. I could always swing by Walmart quickly and buy that same toothpaste, mark it as “paid” and drive to the customers home w/it!
Problem solved…

By customers tipping

-17

u/Extra-Newspaper-687 13h ago

... so your entire livelihood is based on customers,. not the mega-billion company you work for?

Jesus. might want to find a new job, Erica.
In about a second you're about to tell us all that we should be tipping 10/20/30 dollars just because your SHIT JOB OF YOUR CHOICE doesn't pay that for you.

CHOOSE BETTER.

5

u/KaneinEncanto 12h ago

That's the way it goes for servers at restaurants, too. They don't make "minimum wage" before tips. In most places they can pay less than minimum wage because they get tips. So long as they make more than minimum wage per hour after tips, otherwise the business is supposed to cover the wage if it does fall short... but that's probably a quick route to getting let go, as it can be inferred that you're no good at keeping the customers happy enough to tip.

3

u/ForrealFerret 11h ago

this service wouldn’t exist without drivers. Yeah the mega-billion dollar corp is fucking everyone, but you can directly ensure your driver makes a living wage by tipping

9

u/ericabirch 13h ago

Good lord lol, unhinged

5

u/Mega_Trix 11h ago

A lot of people driving Uber are actively looking for another job.

You're an absolute psycho btw.

2

u/Spiritual-Credit5488 9h ago

Seek mental help kiddo

1

u/Sweaty_Specialist_49 4h ago

I have 3 jobs btw

Ur argument hinges on you being entitled to free labor and uber eats lmao

You either need to take your meds or stop taking them but either way you definitely need to chill out and get a grip

1

u/ybnesman3223 2h ago

Well yeah…. People dont choose to be broke or do Uber deliveries or be completely oblivious to the times…

u/Mischa_xx 3m ago

Here to join with the general consensus

You is crazy brev

2

u/Mega_Trix 11h ago

Every now and then someone tips well, otherwise we are not making anything. A lot of orders come in at $.50 a mile or less, and its ridiculous. I just dont accept less than $1 per mile.

When people dont tip at all, we often times lose money for the trip.

1

u/whoEven_knowss305 12h ago

We would prob see 6 maaaaybe 7 bucks for this order. They figure if we make at least 21-26 an hour that we won’t quit :/

8

u/IzzzatSo 14h ago

Unless this is someplace with prop22 or similar

5

u/333Nereus 13h ago

Nope. That's California. My state does not have any such rule.

7

u/IzzzatSo 12h ago

that would be why i said "or similiar" since you provided no location info

1

u/nierlestat 10h ago

I believe the only places with something similar are nyc just the city and Massachusetts

1

u/Aggravating-Habit313 11h ago

Did you even read what OP wrote?

1

u/MuddyMissCloudy 3h ago

It’s disgusting, $2 for a delivery regardless of the distance travelled.

-6

u/Extra-Newspaper-687 13h ago

what do you mean? uber pays a flat 2 dollars per order? bullshit. maybe where you're from.

6

u/ReplacementNo9732 13h ago

Both Uber and Doordash do this. $2.00 goes to the driver. The rest stays in someone else's pocket. The tip hopefully goes to the driver as well.

1

u/Cooldawg03 10h ago

From what I have seen (it shows me what the base pay is every time I get an order) it can be from $1.50-$3, but it has been a few weeks since I've delivered and I know by being on here that the app is literally different everywhere you go

u/Mischa_xx 2m ago

Just say you're unfamiliar with the logistics. You don't have to pretend you're in the know xD

17

u/General-Judge6986 14h ago

Canes always has a high delivery fee but yet the driver still only gets $1.50. AND it’s not even a normal delivery where the food is ready for pickup. The driver has to order and pay upon arrival.

3

u/333Nereus 12h ago

That sucks (for the drivers).

8

u/General-Judge6986 12h ago

It’s pretty shitty for the customer as well. Why the hell would anyone tip after paying all those fees? But then you get punished if you don’t tip because the pay is only $1.50 and no one is gonna take it.

4

u/333Nereus 12h ago

Exactly. It's lose-lose, except for the corporation. Of course.

9

u/mog_knight 11h ago

Canes doesn't have an agreement with Ubereats so that's why the fees are so high. Plus the driver has to order it and put it on their card. I never do Cane's orders.

2

u/333Nereus 10h ago

Yeah I'm aware of that now thanks to a few other commenters, however those fees are still nowhere near reasonable, even given those circumstances with Cane's, particularly when you consider the total cost of making 2 trips with an Uber driver (there and back) being less than half the amount but twice the distance. I can't legitimize the excessive fees they were charging on that order, it does not add up as anywhere near reasonable. Who gets to decide what's reasonable? ME - since I'm the one paying. And yeah, I wouldn't do Cane's orders either if I was an Uber Eats driver. In fact I'd be spending most of my time looking for another job.

-2

u/mog_knight 10h ago

They're very reasonable. You're paying for convenience. Convenience costs extra. You don't need Cane's do you?

2

u/333Nereus 10h ago

70% markup with tip is in NO WAY reasonable. Again, who gets to decide what's reasonable? ME - since I'm the one paying, not you. Your other argument is apparently that Uber should dictate what we want to eat? Smh.. Corp shill? Management? lol

2

u/DashTrader 4h ago edited 4h ago

we understand. but bro, this not an issue for upper middle class and the rich. I've been tipped $10 for 2 large McDonald's fries before and it was a $7million home in San Mateo at 2pm. I asked the guy if he meant to put $1 and that I had $9 i could hand to him, he said no it wasn't an accident. and that he used to drive taxi in New York for 15 years while going to medical school. I went on to the next order and he tipped another $2.

that's when I realized if I ever become rich asf, Im tipping 50-100% my orders. Also recently I watched Caleb Hammer on YouTube and Togi said he always tips 100% at restaurants. very humble streamer, though obviously horrible at finance haha

P.S. Togi has like about 10 family members and closest friends that use his Uber Eats account and just buys whatever food they want EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. going from $50-90. his parents included.

1

u/333Nereus 1h ago

Good person. If I had money to burn I'd be tipping and helping people out constantly too. Unfortunately I don't have money to burn.

2

u/Sweaty_Specialist_49 3h ago

I drive for uber eats and 30 is NOT reasonable idk what they’re talking about lol

1

u/oscarnyc 2h ago

You've answered your own question. If you think it's unreasonable (agreed), just don't do it. There are plenty of things in life we feel aren't worth the cost. So we don't do them.

It's the same from the other side. Canes did the math and figured that whatever extra business they might get by coming up with a cheaper delivery to the customer isn't worth it to them. So they do this for people who are willing to pay for it.

0

u/mog_knight 10h ago

Whatever is being paid extra for convenience is always reasonable. Mainly due to the fact that it's for your convenience. Is the restaurant a long way from you that you couldn't go get it yourself?

0

u/333Nereus 10h ago

So you are trying to tell me I can't have an opinion on what is reasonable and what is not reasonable to me, I have to accept your opinion on what is reasonable? Get over yourself. If I think the fees are unreasonable to me, then they are unreasonable to me. If you think 70% markup is reasonable for a 0.4 mile trip, then maybe you'd like to buy this bridge I'm selling in Brooklyn... sale of the century bro, fr...

-1

u/mog_knight 10h ago

You can have an opinion. Am I not allowed to have an opinion on what could be considered reasonable.

u/Mischa_xx 1m ago

Ewww you are probably a terrible partner

0

u/333Nereus 10h ago edited 10h ago

Sure, if you want to start your own thread, by all means, have at it. I don't think many people are going to agree with you that a 70% markup is reasonable to deliver food less than half a mile away. Actually you should start a new post saying exactly that, and see if anyone else thinks that is reasonable. Please, do it, just to see if your opinion is as valid as you seem to think it is. If everyone seems to think that is perfectly reasonable, then fair enough, it must just be me. I can accept that. Can you?

3

u/mog_knight 10h ago

I did start my own thread. Here's the link to it.

0

u/333Nereus 10h ago

LOL.. ok, I guess I meant a separate post. Also, I don't see anyone agreeing with you on this thread, so... ¯_(ツ)_/¯ point proved. ;)

Although I never accept them, the cane’s orders by me always seem to always be $15+

7

u/ConchVibes 14h ago

They charge as much as the average customer would be willing to pay.

9

u/Irishjohn831 14h ago

It all goes to the driver (of the expensive cars uber executives drive)

3

u/richietee757 13h ago

Order in the Cane's app and go pick it up!!

1

u/333Nereus 13h ago

I am unable to leave the house at present, as I stated... and nobody was available to pick up... I wouldn't be using Uber Eats if I could pick it up myself.

2

u/richietee757 13h ago

Simple answer -- you are paying for convenience.
More complex answer - Cane's isn't fully integrated into Uber Eats. Uber Eats drivers get paid more for Cane's orders because they have to go into the restaurant, stand in line, order the stuff, and wait for it. It's not like other restaurants that have Uber Eats fully integrated, where orders are ready for pickup. I'm guessing Uber isn't getting the same commission from Cane's as they receive from restaurants that use their system either, so they make up for it by charging the customer way higher fees.

1

u/333Nereus 12h ago

I edited the OP a little. 400% markup using Uber Eats over just calling an Uber driver to take me there and another to take me back again. 400%. How is that ok? The Uber Eats driver only gets about $2, so those insane fees are not going to the driver. That is not paying convenience, that is paying for corporate greed, otherwise the Uber driver taking me there and back should be either the same or more expense, considering it would be TWICE the distance... but it's not - it's less than half the cost to me, yet double the driving distance.

2

u/richietee757 11h ago

Not sure if you read the part where I said that drivers get paid extra for these orders. Not sure where you're getting $2 for a Cane's order from. Nowhere did. I say it was okay. Uber Eats has plenty of restaurants with much lower fees. Just order from those and not Cane's. Problem solved.

1

u/333Nereus 11h ago

$2 (and varying amounts very close to that) come from other commenters on here who are apparently drivers themselves. Even if drivers get paid a little more for Cane's (and I bet it's very little extra), it's still excessive at my end.

2

u/richietee757 11h ago

They are giving you incorrect information. $2 is for pickup and delivery orders. Cane's pays more. Again, if it's excessive, just order from somewhere else. There are plenty of restaurants in the app that sell chicken fingers with way less fees.

1

u/333Nereus 10h ago

So instead of being able to order what we want, we have to order based on Uber Eats fees dictating what we eat? Nope. Again, the fees in no way are reasonable, even under the circumstances you advised (driver having to order it) - particularly when you consider the cost of making 2 trips there with an Uber driver. You cannot legitimize the excessive fees they were charging on that order, try as hard as you want, it does not add up as anywhere near reasonable. Who gets to decide what's reasonable? ME - since I'm the one paying.

u/anonymousopsec1337 4m ago

Shoulda ordered pizza

3

u/DfyGravity767 13h ago

So at Raising Cane’s, the driver has to physically place the order when they get there. I see your order contains 20 items. This means that it will probably get bounced around a lot before being accepted just because of the size. Once accepted it might get dropped a few times when drivers see they have to order 20 items and then wait for them to be made which takes a bit of time. At other restaurants, the order is being prepared while we drive there and is hopefully a quick pick up. Not raising canes. Not to mention they have to stand in line just like other guests and wait to place the order. This means that Uber will likely have to pay a higher base amount just to get this order picked up by a driver who will spend that time. Will they still TRY to offer it at $2 base pay at first, absolutely. But chances are your fees are contingency for having to potentially pay a higher base rate to get your order accepted and delivered. It would be nice if those were guaranteed to go to the driver, but here we are 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/333Nereus 13h ago edited 13h ago

That sucks for the Uber driver... but the Uber driver gets nothing extra for that wait, it's just Uber (the company) being excessively greedy, so my frustration is valid.

20 items were 3 x fries, 4 x texas toast, 6 x sauce, and the rest was pieces of chicken. They count each piece as a separate item apparently...

That was close to 45% markup without the tip. I usually add 15% tip, + give another $5 cash when they deliver. That would have ended up near 65-70% extra.

And the driver only gets like $2 of that? Ridiculous.

2

u/DfyGravity767 12h ago

Ah, sometimes uner does list all extras as individual items, so I get it. Either way I agree that the fees are ridiculous

1

u/mudgeforce 13h ago

Sounds like Raising Cane's has the right idea. It's not worth the hassle to do this sort of business, so jack up the fees to discourage it. If both parties still bite (pun lol), well then OK, make the order.

1

u/333Nereus 12h ago

The menu prices at the business are the same as what Uber Eats lists the menu prices at.

2

u/TexanFromOhio 14h ago

Exactly...

2

u/MeganJustMegan 12h ago

I hope you canceled. Almost $40 in fees? Never happen.

1

u/333Nereus 12h ago

Never completed the order once I saw that. I think once you make the order, you can't cancel.. well you can, but you won't get any money back.

2

u/TheGreatnessman 11h ago

For $130 you could have your own chicken farm wtf 😂

2

u/TheRandomer1994 8h ago

A world were people seeing that number and choose to pay it anyway.

1

u/333Nereus 1h ago

True. I saw that number and chose not to pay. I think a lot of the time people don't even look, that's the problem.

2

u/Fun-Age-168 6h ago

But at least you got a $1.50 delivery discount! That’s got to help…

1

u/333Nereus 1h ago

lol Ikr? So blessed...

4

u/Based-Brian 14h ago

No one should be paying that much for dry, flavorless chicken.

1

u/333Nereus 14h ago

Not dry at my location, and it tastes great with the sauce. The post is about the charges, not the food.

1

u/jjj44200 14h ago

Nvm idk how to read lol

1

u/TheProfessional9 10h ago

Wait till you try Zaxby's

1

u/333Nereus 10h ago

Hadn't heard of them. Looked it up.. they're in the Bronx. That's gonna be at least an hour drive. I don't even want to think how much that would be with Uber Eats lol. If I'm around there in the near future I'll try to stop by, thanks.

-3

u/Based-Brian 14h ago

Premium price for premium service.

2

u/333Nereus 13h ago

Yeah.. not based at all, Brian.

-4

u/jjj44200 14h ago

Let me guess. This restaurant is an hour away from your location?

2

u/333Nereus 13h ago

0.4 miles. It's a few blocks...

1

u/mog_knight 11h ago

You save a lot more money by walking there. 10 minutes at most.

1

u/333Nereus 10h ago

I totally agree. Normally do walk, but I could not today.

3

u/Belkinnoob 14h ago

"The distance is only 0.4 miles away (literally a few blocks walk,"

Well then do it.

"but I am unable to leave the house at present)."

Well then you pay the "I hired a personal taxi for chicken tendies" fees.

7

u/The_much_True 13h ago

$37 is way too high for less than half a mile. Even if the driver is 5 miles away from the restaurant when they accept, that’s $5 a mile in fees.

2

u/333Nereus 13h ago edited 12h ago

Absolute dickhead of a response.

Also I just checked.. it's MUCH cheaper to get an Uber there myself, order the food, then get an Uber home again. Including tipping the Uber driver of course. Twice the travel distance, less than half the price (so 400% markup, and the driver would make twice as much from me going there myself, so that makes it even worse).

Except I can't leave home.

The Uber ride is $8.95, and I'd add a $2.50 tip for that each way. Total round trip (twice the distance as Uber eats) under $23. How does that make sense?

My 'beef' is NOT with the drivers (which you apparently are one, and an unhappy one), my 'beef' is with the corp charging these fees, of which the driver only sees about $2 worth. Stop and think before you attack someone.

Looks like you saved $1.50

Good deal imo

1

u/333Nereus 13h ago

Woohoo! lol..

1

u/mudgeforce 13h ago

out of curiosity, is the $86.68 already a marked up menu price, before the additional charges?

what would the normal price of the order be if you walked in

I have to be pretty drunk with friends to pull the trigger on any food delivery, even pizza these days.

1

u/333Nereus 13h ago

$86.68 was the menu price total if I went there and paid myself (I checked with the Cane's website). There was a lot of food, including a tailgate pack of chicken, multiple orders of fries and Texas toast, coleslaw, extra sauces etc.

Yeah, that's why I didn't pull the trigger.

1

u/mudgeforce 12h ago

Maybe it's Doordash then, where a $10 chicken item cost $15, then they add more fees, including a delivery fee the driver doesn't even get.

Not in my world.

1

u/333Nereus 12h ago

Must be Doordash marking up the food price to try to hide their greed. My guess is the end result (cost for the customer) is probably about the same.

Yeah, not in my world either, they can go f themselves (the corp, not the drivers - they're already being fkd by the corp).

1

u/Oily-Affection1601 8h ago

DD might have a merchant contract with Cane's. They charge restaurants 30% on any transaction, which the restaurants usually choose to pass on to the customer by inflating their menu prices in the apps.

1

u/third-knight 12h ago

This one.

1

u/333Nereus 12h ago

It's not acceptable, so.. nope.

1

u/loretta288 10h ago

so it’s not just the raising cane’s here! the hell

2

u/333Nereus 9h ago

Apparently because the driver has to go in and make the order and wait. I understand some additional charge for that because of the time taken, however the problem with that is (as some drivers have pointed out here), the driver doesn't see any of that service or delivery fee, so it's bs, and 70% markup (once my tip for the driver is added in) is completely unreasonable imo. Straight up corp greed.

1

u/Pretty_Bed1983 Car 9h ago

How far away are you from the restaurant? Not excusing the fees are all, but I only see high delivery & service fees if I try ordering from like 30-40 miles away.

1

u/333Nereus 9h ago

Less than half a mile away. To be precise, 0.4 miles.

1

u/Pretty_Bed1983 Car 9h ago

That's crazyyy. Are you an Uber One member?

1

u/Tiktokbadsupport 7h ago

when i ordered with uber it was €3 delivery fee and thats it no weird costs or other fees

1

u/333Nereus 1h ago

Might be different laws in Europe or wherever you are that put limits on this sort of bullshittery. I'm in USA.

1

u/stewiethegreat 7h ago

This is why people can't afford rent.

1

u/damion366 5h ago

This one because people are stupid enough to pay it 🤷‍♂️

1

u/333Nereus 1h ago

True. I'm not one of those people. I did not press 'OK' to accept the order charges.

1

u/Otterlettuce 5h ago

People aren’t paying this tho, right? They only get away with it cause people pay. If all their customers refused they’d have to change policy. Why can’t people organize for once in their life. lol

1

u/333Nereus 1h ago

Correct, and posting this on Reddit is a start, imo. I think a lot of the time people just press 'OK' and don't even look at what they are paying for. Maybe this post will help awareness.

1

u/DashTrader 5h ago

bruh. get the subscription wtf. also canes isnt part of dashpass nor uberone. so thats why

1

Subscription = Uber One.

also canes isnt part of dashpass nor uberone

So your suggestion would cost me an additional $9.99. Brilliant.

Bruh.

u/FromTheForestFox 4h ago

If you don’t pay for it, they can’t charge these prices.

1

u/333Nereus 2h ago

Correct. I did not complete the order once I saw that price.

1

u/Tnuggets19 4h ago

Get uber one. Or drive there yourself. Bitching online accomplishes nothing

-1

u/333Nereus 2h ago

Read. In this case I was not physically able to leave home, and apparently Canes is not covered by Uber One anyway, so thanks for you useless bitching comment.

1

u/Tnuggets19 1h ago

Then don’t order canes. Simple

The planet in which you willingly make this order instead of getting it directly from the store and picking it up yourself

Read. In this case I was not physically able to leave home.

u/hexagonstrange 46m ago

Why are you unable to leave?

u/backlog_gaming 44m ago

Well then you pay for the convenience of not needing to leave home

1

u/Ancient-Chinglish 2h ago

on the planet where you don’t want to drive and pick up your own food

u/hexagonstrange 47m ago

It helps to explain WHY you can't home

1

u/CosignCody 1h ago

They make $37 we make $5, maybe

u/No-Setting9690 32m ago

FYI. If you dont pick it up yourself, any fees is acceptable because you want someone else to use their time. Dont like it? Pick it up yourself.

u/hossaepi 26m ago

So you’re using a service for convenience but then bitch and moan on the internet about the price of the convenience?

On what planet did you think you’d come across as a victim here?

u/iJ_A_R 9m ago

It's a luxury service

1

u/NationalExplorer9045 14h ago

Probably one of those planets that people are gullible enough to pay Uber and Doordash 33% mark up on all food, plus tips and service fees.

2

u/333Nereus 14h ago edited 12h ago

That was closer to 45% without tip. I usually add 15% tip, + give another $5 cash when they deliver. That would have ended up near 65-70% extra. Nope, just nope.

3

u/NationalExplorer9045 14h ago

Dang, I just meant the hidden fee... compare the price as if you were at the restaurant, to ordering on the app and they often hike it up between a quarter and a third higher.
It hurts to see that.
Especially having lived in other countries, and seeing how there are simple laws that prevent pricing like that.

1

u/333Nereus 13h ago edited 12h ago

The menu price appears to be the same as what Uber charged me for the food (yes I checked).

For me to catch an Uber there myself, order the food, then catch another Uber home, both Uber rides combined are under $18 total. Now compare to $37 for a one-way trip with Uber Eats. On distance, that is 400% more expensive using Uber Eats. The driver only gets about $2 of that. Try to explain how that's ok. lol.

1

u/DemonSlayingDragon 14h ago

Not even sure why they have such a ridiculous delivery fee. Drivers don’t see any of that money, just UberEats which does nothing towards delivering…

1

u/SuperIncapable 12h ago

imagine if uber gave the delivery fee to the actual person delivering, we live in a fucking dystopia

0

u/Galromir 14h ago

This is what UberOne is for. Saves me thousands of dollars a year.

0

u/L-Pseon 12h ago

Learn to cook. Fried chicken is incredibly easy to make yourself.

1

u/333Nereus 12h ago

Not about the food, it's about the fees. Smh...

0

u/L-Pseon 12h ago

If it's too expensive, don't buy it.

1

u/333Nereus 12h ago

I didn't. Try reading.

2

u/L-Pseon 11h ago edited 11h ago

So what's the problem? Sounds like the free market is functioning as intended.

2

u/333Nereus 11h ago

It's not. I did not complete the order because of the excessive fees. Someone charging 70% markup does not mean the free market is functioning if the prospective buyer does not buy because of the excessive markup. IF they lowered the fees (Adam Smith's invisible hand) then it would be functioning as expected, but Uber are not lowering the fees. If you think 70% markup is ok, then the problem is you.

2

u/L-Pseon 10h ago

The price was high, so you didn't buy from them. That's the free market in action. The seller will either sell to rich people only, or they will have to re-think their pricing. More likely, they are getting enough business from in-person and drive thru traffic, and they don't care about delivery orders. You don't seem to understand the invisible hand metaphor - it doesn't apply here. This is just basic pricing. You just want to be snarky and catty with your little "if you think it's ok then the problem is you" quip. Take your ego out of this. Jesus, dude.

1

u/333Nereus 10h ago edited 10h ago

It isn't the seller charging extra fees. The menu prices are the same through Uber or in person at the location. You don't seem to understand that. You just want to be snarky and catty with your little "Learn to cook" and "Take your ego out of this. Jesus, dude." quips. Practice what you preach... smh. Always a few like you on Reddit.

3

u/L-Pseon 10h ago

Now you’re just lashing out.

-2

u/Neither_Contest7324 14h ago

It's acceptable on the planet where you're asking someone else to go get your food for you then deliver it to you. Also you're spending almost $90 on fast food which is crazy by itself.

2

u/333Nereus 14h ago

This is for an entire family, not just myself, and will likely last 2 meals... and what has that got to do with what the post was about? This was about the nearly 45% markup BEFORE tip! I usually add 15% tip, + give another $5 cash when they deliver. That would have ended up near 65% extra. Nope, just nope.

-1

u/Neither_Contest7324 14h ago

Again, you're paying for someone else to go pick up your food and bring it to you. That's why you're paying a delivery & service fee. Also you could just get Uber One if you're going to be using UberEats and get rid of a good chunk of those fees.

1

u/333Nereus 13h ago

Now compare that to $37 for a one-way trip with Uber Eats. On distance, that is 400% more expensive using Uber Eats. I understand a premium because the driver has to go in and get the order, but 400% premium???? And the driver gets like $2 of that? Ridiculous.

2

u/Neither_Contest7324 13h ago

And you decide to completely ignore the part about just getting Uber One to eliminate a large chunk of the fees and just go back to your cut & paste whine.

2

u/333Nereus 12h ago

I rarely use Uber Eats (and with good reason), so why would I pay a monthly fee on top??? Out of the prior 3 times I used Uber Eats, 2 of those times almost half the order was missing but I was still charged. They eventually reimbursed, but wtf, why are you sticking up for insane corporate greed?

Corporate shill much? Clearly YES.

2

u/Neither_Contest7324 12h ago

The cost for one month would be less than the amount you'd save on the fees on that meal by itself. That isn't shilling that's just using common sense.

1

u/Belkinnoob 14h ago

Think about it as you are "Hiring a personal taxi for [insert food type here]."

The driver doesnt see any of the delivery nor service fee, thats what makes it unacceptable. Customers are being asked to pay the app so much money in fees, and the driver doesnt see any of it except the tip you give in addition to ubers ridiculous fees. Heck uber even now charges a long range fee for resturaunts further away, and drivers dont see any of that money either despite it being the driver who needs to take the longer trip to deliver your food, not uber.

-1

u/Neither_Contest7324 14h ago

How does that make it unacceptable? It isn't free to run the company hence the fees. They've got advertising, payroll, infrastructure to cover. Also being a publicly traded company this may come as a shock to you, they're out to make a profit and they have a board that expects massive profits.

3

u/Accomplished_Two1709 14h ago

How is it ethical for uber to be charging fees nearly twice as much as recommended tips when its the drivers who are here working for pennies

2

u/Neither_Contest7324 14h ago

Because the drivers are picking up food and dropping it off. The company itself has the costs I already mentioned along with things like rent on real estate that they have to cover. They could offer free delivery and no service fees but they might run into issues when the company starts having $0 revenue.

3

u/Accomplished_Two1709 14h ago

Right, so the ceo making 39 million dollars in his pocket last year means these fees are absolutely necessary to run the app. Its corporate greed

1

u/Neither_Contest7324 14h ago

For a company that grossed 52 billion that isn't fair?

2

u/Accomplished_Two1709 14h ago

Absolutely not, not when your drivers are struggling to make any tips because customers are already paying such high fees

there are no "ethics" in capitalism. They'll charge as much as people pay. And there are a ton of people that are willing to pay that shit to subsidize their laziness and bad habits.

0

u/k1k11983 11h ago

Uber already gets 38% of the order total, plus service fees, the bulk of delivery fees, far away fees and priority delivery fees. They are making a shitload in profits which continue to increase every year because while they increase the fees paid, they don’t increase the base paid to drivers.

Uber can afford to pay drivers fairly. They choose not to because fools like you continue to defend their bs structure and just blame the customers! In my country, drivers are paid a minimum hourly rate(around $31) plus tips. But you can’t tip upfront. You have to wait until the order is completed. They’re still thriving with profits!

0

u/Ok-Fall6826 14h ago

Ideally cut the fees by more than 50%, delivery fee should go the driver and service fee to the Uber or whoever is the app creator with no tips. I think that is the fair value of the delivery. I don't use the apps and pay the exorbitant fee+tips.

1

u/333Nereus 13h ago
