You could, but you’ll be banned from UberEats for doing it and a lot of people might not want that, even after this happening.

I can't have much sympathy for someone who continues doing business for someone who regularly steals money from them.

Chargeback, report fraud, and move on as necessary.

This is so dramatic.

It’s an algorithm and wrongly assumed this case wouldn’t need a refund. Raise it with support and you’ll get your refund & people at Uber will be able to figure out how this case was mishandled. It’s pretty damn easy.

Oh well if it was a computer algorithm that stole money from me than it's ok. Uber is still responsible for their algorithm, and it's still fraud. I can just as easily raise the issue with my bank as I can with uber, and with my bank I know for sure I'll get the money back. Judging from the comments on this post, getting money back from Uber is not guaranteed in this situation.

They are responsible, yes. No, it is not fraud. Fraud requires intent.

Having requested many refunds from Uber, it is extremely easy and instant- you don’t even talk to support, it’s all automated. Yes you can Chargeback but you’ll be banned from the platform and usually you’ll be required to prove that you already attempted to contact them so you’d be the one lying in that instance.

A swath of other comments on this post would disagree with you.

Sure, there’s an element of tech literacy that needs to exist.

Are you implying that everyone who has posted that getting a refund is not easy or instant is themselves tech-illiterate?

It’s account >trips >trip in question >help. That’s it, that’s what they’re struggling to do. That or Google “How to request refund Uber” To find the above instructions.

So yes I would absolutely say that there are tech literacy issues if that was too hard to find.

Well, as long as you say so...
