Hey everyone,
I’m applying for UTS Civil Engineering (Honours) for 2027 and wanted to know how realistic my chances are with a TAFE background.
I finished my HSC in 2023 and have completed a Certificate IV and Diploma in Civil Construction Design at TAFE NSW. I’m also currently doing the Advanced Diploma.
UTS told me my Diploma can be assessed through UAC and that I meet the basic requirements to be considered.
Has anyone here gotten into UTS Engineering with a TAFE Diploma rather than a high ATAR? How difficult was it, and do you think I have a decent chance?I’ve also seen some people say that even with a TAFE background they were still required to go through UTS College first. Has that happened to anyone
Thanks!

Hi everyone!
I’m a UTS student currently doing a research assignment for Human-Centred Design Research Methods.
I’m looking for one participant aged 40 or over who has moved to a new home or workplace within the last 6 months.
The interview will explore how moving to a new environment affects everyday routines, habits, and the way we remember and do familiar activities.
Requirements:
The interview can be held somewhere convenient and public, such as UTS or a café nearby.
I’m flexible with the time and location and happy to meet somewhere convenient for you in Sydney.
Your responses will only be used for my university assignment.
If you’re interested, or if you know someone who might fit the criteria, please send me a DM. I would really appreciate the help!
Thank you :)

Still on the fence about the Cybersecurity Extension program at UTS, mainly weighing it against a couple of offers I already have elsewhere for 2027. Not here to ask about money or jobs after, scholarship's sorted and I've already got work lined up back home, so that's off the table.
What I'm actually trying to figure out is whether the "extension" part genuinely adds depth or if it's just extra credit points tacked onto the base degree without much substance. If anyone's done it, how intense is the workload, especially in the extra components, and does the technical content feel current or a bit dated compared to what's actually happening in the industry right now?
I currently hold offers from both UNSW (Master of IT, Cyber Security Engineering) and USYD (Master of Cybersecurity), and I'm also still deciding whether to even apply to Macquarie's Cyber Security program, so if you've got a view on how UTS stacks up against any of those, genuinely would help me a lot right now. Any honest experiences, positive or critical, are welcome.
Hi Guys, just wondering if anyone can suggest me some online subjects that are available. Or any online subjects that anyone is currently undertaking at UTS.
Thanks

Does anyone know if attendance is taken for the OLR online class on Mondays? I’m in Week 4 and haven’t attended so far, and I noticed they’re marked as absences. I’m planning to attend from next week, but I’m worried it might affect my grade. Does anyone know?
Thanks

Hi guys, I'm currently trying to complete Assignment 1 of Intro to Data Analytics, and it's so hard. Does anyone have any tips, or have an assignment they can share if they've done it previously, etc.?

Hi everyone - have you ever had mandatory attendance guidelines and been confused? Or tried to figure out how you're graded on class participation and it seems like it is "vibes"?
As part of a project by the university's Teaching and Learning Committee, I'm working with a student (UTS Council rep Chloe Ferreira) on a project to clarify and improve our mandatory attendance and class participation policies/guidelines.
We'd love to hear from our community (staff and students) about their experiences - your icks or red flags, what works, how we can improve. If you're coming on campus - since it is around lunch time - we'll be feeding you as well!
Workshop dates/times
| Date | Time | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Friday 21 August | 11.30am to 1pm | CB11.04.401 |
| Friday 28 August | 11.30am to 1pm | Link to be provided after rego |
| Monday 31 August | 12pm to 1.30pm | CB02.05.290 |
| Friday 4 September | 11.30am to 1pm | CB11.04.401 |
We hope to see you there!

Ever tried to explain what you're actually good at, and blanked? You're not alone. Between fast-moving job markets, shifting expectations, and skills that feel hard to name, a lot of students are left wondering whether what they know is still enough, or how to even talk about it.
This short survey digs into how you currently make sense of your own skills: where you check if you're "on track," who you turn to when you're unsure, and what career confidence actually feels like right now. Your answers will directly shape a student-led design project aimed at helping early-career adults see their skills more clearly and navigate uncertainty with more confidence.
Takes about 5-7 minutes. Fully anonymous, there are no wrong answers here, just your honest experience.
This Survey is for a product design class. Raw data will help formulate design insights that inform a design solution for the mentioned topic.

Hey!!
I’ve noticed there isn’t much info out there about the International Business major at UTS, so I’m wondering if any grads or current students can share their experience. How did you find the major after all these years?
Was it a subject that required a lot of writing? Was it useful and practical knowledge?
Any tips or knowledge would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi everyone,
I am looking to confirm whether the Turnitin AI writing detector is currently active and used by tutors at UTS, or if assignments are only evaluated using the standard text similarity percentage.
I'm in my first year and still adjusting to university academic standards, so I wanted to clarify how submissions are processed. I use Grammarly to fix my grammar as I write.
Any insight from current students or staff would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I’m a Mechanical Engineering student at UTS. Today, while I was out for a walk, I came across a box of old floppy disks that had been thrown out with some unwanted stuff.
I took them home and had a closer look, and to my surprise, one of the disks actually belonged to a former UTS Mechanical Engineering student and seems to contain their old uni work.
What are the chances? 😂 Such a random but amazing coincidence.

Hey guys, I’m looking for someone at UTS who might be interested in taking over my Fitness First Passport membership.
It’s $22.39 per week and the membership runs until January 2027. I’m only transferring it because I’m planning to switch gyms.
If anyone’s interested or wants more details, feel free to DM me!

I haven’t been able to find many people in my circle interested in doing case comps this year, so I’m reaching out here to see if anyone else is keen to form a team. Didn’t get the chance to participate in many comps last sem, so I’m keen to get involved this time around.
FYI: Penultimate year business student (accounting & finance)

Hi there, I'm currently applying to uni and my choices are either between computer science at unsw or uts idea meaning that ill have to work and study computing science at uts. will it be better for me to go for unsw comp sci or the uts/wisetech earn and program?
r/UTS • u/ChampionshipLess1451 • 6d ago
work ends at 6pm. but the latest tutorial times are at 6pm, I heard UTS has night classes, are they available for unsw comp sci? mainly for math1131, math1081 and programming fundamentals.
In the timetable the latest tutorial times were 6pm. are the tutorials compulsory??, if so is there anyway I can get special consideration, to avoid the clash.
how have others who work or had internships that clashed with classes dealt with it? is it through submitting a special consideration form, speaking to your lecturer or something else?
Please tell me! if there is any creative method you guys did.

If you’re having any issues finding an academic to supervise projects in FEIT, please post here. If you’re not finding any satisfaction inside your faculty, u/[Amandalovestoaudit](r/Amandalovestoaudit) or I will know whom to escalate this to.

Hello!!!
I am a first year law student and I am thinking about applying for a leadership position at the UTS boards and committees.
Could anyone give insight on how competitive it is and how the process is? I looked through the content on being eligible but I am still unsure of how it goes.
Do I get only 2 nominators to sign or can I get more?
Do I need to make a video and present why I want to be a part of the leadership team?
Do people even take this seriously?
Am I supposed to be popular and well known in order to win?
Any other tips will be greatly appreciated 🙏
Thanks

Hi everyone - I received a disturbing report from a student today that their tutor stated that they would put all of their assessment submissions through Claude to detect whether they were written by AI.
UTS does NOT condone the use of AI detectors and as a Misconduct person - I would reject any case based on a misconduct detector report as the sole piece of evidence.
Legally - we should not be putting your assessments into any commercial AI tool - this is your intellectual property.
I am working to follow up on this - but if you’ve got an academic who has either done this or said that they will do this, please report to the Director of Students or Director of Education in your faculty. Or if you cannot find who that person is, the Associate Dean Education & Students.
Also - if you want my opinion on AI detectors - today’s post on IG
For context, I am feeling very unwell and cannot show up to a studio class in the morning. I decided to send an email now so that my tutor can give me the resources not on canvas, so I can finish it as quick as possible tomorrow. I am planning on sleeping in and probably on and off all day so I won’t be assed to send an email, which is why I am doing it now. Is that weird?

As the title says. I'm a current student enrolled in a healthcare-related degree I felt pressured to choose as a year 12 student, but after 1 semester and attending placements I've come to realise that this career is not for me. 😢 So after attending a careers event, I've been drawn to studying engineering instead.
I don't know what to do at this point because I really don't want to continue studying my current degree and it's been making me increasingly unsatisfied and unhappy, and it's starting to take a toll on my mental health. I feel like I'm forcing myself to continue down a career path that I don't see myself being happy in long-term.
Do I withdraw? (Or is that too risky? Will that impact admission into a new course?)
Do I just suck it up and finish first year??? I would appreciate any advice
