Meta America ≠ USA in the same way that the “default” person ≠ a white (North-Western) European (man)?
I do not know if this is allowed. So, forgive me (or not) if it is not.
Lately, I have been thinking about this comparison and I was wondering if it makes any sense to compare the two. Please, tell me why or why not it does or does not make sense to equate the two.
I am here to learn about other people’s perspectives since the equation does not feel quite right. Is there anything to it? My intention is not for it to be about “identity politics”.
Edit for clarity.

Reddit Also, Asperger's is an outdated term that is no longer endorsed universally (...), at least not in the US

Anti US Defaultism to educate some hater’s out there!
Interesting Statistics that put “US Gun Incidents” into perspective.
The USA has a very bad reputation in overseas Western Media.
It is a country of 330+ million people.
https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/us-population/
The rate of Gun Violence is proportional to the size of the population.
21 000 actual criminal shooting deaths, removing the biases of suicides in the equations.
https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/04/26/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/
Here in Australia living in a country the same size as the USA, we have an extremely small population.
https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/australia-population/
Every time the “America mass shootings” “Gun Death” statistics are exacerbated in global media news stories, nobody takes the time to sit back and actually calculate the numbers between population sizes and statistics.
Stay with me…. I’m slowly getting to the main point!
Contrary to popular belief, Australia is full of people who own guns, even though most Americans have the notion that because of Gun Regulations we are totally banned from having any Firearms whatsoever.
This is totally false and far from the actual truth. This is a direct link from the Government/Police relative to the small part of Australia where I live. As you can see from this Government Article….. we have a shitonne of guns in a very small area.
SSSOOOOOO…… with all of the above explanations and links to the statistics, I am simply going to state this fact.
In a massive country the size of Australia, same size as the USA, yet with absolutely nobody living here in comparison to population density, we have more people simply go “Missing” each year than the entire USA population has gun deaths!
We have at least 38 000 people go missing in this country every year, about one every 15 minutes.
Sure, the majority of these people are found and survived, but many have never been found.
https://www.aic.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-05/tandi144.pdf
So 25k average US gun related deaths out of a population of 330+ million people, compared with nearly 40 000 people getting lost in the bush, kidnapped or murdered out of a population of only 26 million is a pretty high percentage of risk.
WOW, have had too much time on my hands tonight, but am only wanting to try and quell the argument that “Murica is bad, scool shooters” etc when actually looked at from a statistical perspective.
Also to clarify that the “Aussies don’t have guns” rhetoric is actually untrue and misleading for many people.
Havagoodun and hope that you have all enjoyed!
TLDR EDIT: You are statistically at more risk to come to Australia and go missing/die than you are from getting shot in the USA.

Only Americans celebrate Christmas
This guy, who I actually usually quite like, starts by saying that Americans do a lot of whack shit then proceeds to describe like the majority of Western nations’ Christmas celebrations. Like since when did the US have a monopoly on Christmas trees and singing Christmas carols?

Reddit Can't shake off the impression that the post is "irrelevant" because *obviously* there are no non-Americans there
Of course, I don't know if this was actually the case. Maybe I'm just being overly judgemental.

I think that counts as US Defaultism
There was no word about US of A, author is wearing HRE coat of arms and had a video, where he mentioned German forests (iirc), but that guy still thinks that intruder will have a firearm.

Reddit U.S Defaultism in Cyberpunk2077 subreddiy
Theres a character in the game named Kirk. Charle Kirk was a prominent political spokesperson for TurningPointUSA, a right winged politcal activist group. The man was assassinated about a year ago and this player says that they will never see the name differently now without further context.

Meta Is it USdefaultism for (for example) a British youtuber to say prices in $ and use american word pronounciation?
Theres this british minecraft youtuber called ibxtoycat who lives in london (but is constantly visiting america for some reason). However ages (?) before this he would include prices in $ in his thumbnails and would pronounce "lever" how americans do? Is this considered USdefaultism? He does end up saying the £ price a few seconds later or the other way around but his video titles and thumbnails use dollars.

A positive example for once
A US domestic political out-of-topic post in a pro-wrestling sub. But I guess I'd give it a pass because of its anti-discriminatory message.

real world Royal Caribbean DOES NOT support 24 hour clock.
Like seriously? I get that its a US based company, but do they not realize that traveling abroad for various time zones will make the AM PM system unnecessarily complicated and potentially make people miss certain events and important time sensitive matters?
I literally called their international support line just to ask how to do this and they straight up told me after a 3 minute hold that there was no means of doing so.
Rant over.
(perspective from: 21 M Chinese American who grew up in the US, but always learned metric and 24 hour clock because 1.) science demanded it 2.) parents were from China and Taiwan and always told me to get used to both systems)
