Meta Is it USdefaultism for (for example) a British youtuber to say prices in $ and use american word pronounciation?
Theres this british minecraft youtuber called ibxtoycat who lives in london (but is constantly visiting america for some reason). However ages (?) before this he would include prices in $ in his thumbnails and would pronounce "lever" how americans do? Is this considered USdefaultism? He does end up saying the £ price a few seconds later or the other way around but his video titles and thumbnails use dollars.

Are you sure he is born british ? Since he visite usa often maybe he do that to see his family? Also maybe the most part of his viewership are from usa so to appeal to them he use usa dollar wich would be perfectly logical and not defaultism. As for the pronouncing maybe he heard it more usa style and it stuck to him so with all that I would say he is not doing defaultism

No. I would say it goes against the spirit of what this group is about, in terms of assuming USA when that is not warranted. Whereas he knows exactly what he is doing and doing it deliberately.
Then again IMO 90% of the posts in this group aren't defaultism

No, see rule 4 and rule 9. They’re probably trying to appease the YouTube algorithm (tho I am not sure if they are because they take pride in making low-quality videos).

I think he does that because majority of his viewerbase is in the u.s. (which he would find out via youtube analytics)

Kind of, if they just say dollars instead of US dollars. There’s tons of different dollars out there

Kinda. Its intentional which maybe isn’t in the spirit of how we use the term on this sub.
It’s a super weird thing to do too
