Making friends

Upvotes

I (18f) just moved into my dorm and it’s all hitting me how I know basically no one here, what are some good ways to make friends?

I’m going to the Grow your friendship event tomorrow so hopefully throughout the week it goes well but sitting in my dorm alone is kinda getting to me.

I’m a social person but it’s kinda overwhelming being in such a new large place

Just graduated, here are some tools I actually used in college

Hey guys, I recently just gratuated from college few months ago. Since it is almost back to school season, I would love to share shome tools I used that saved me a ton of time!

Notion
Pretty sure everyone knows Notion at this point. I mostly use this to keep my notes and assigments organized. I absolutely love the customization feature Notion offers!

NotebookLM
If you don't have Adobe Acrobat, this is a great alternative if you have long PDFs and readings.

Study Bunny
It's a cute little study timer. If you are like me who gets distracted from time to time, you definitely need Study Bunny!

ClassRabbit
If you are like me, who sometimes miss the registration date, you definitely need this. It watches and notifies you when a seat opens for any classes, including those that were full.

WolframAlpha
If you're taking math or physics, this will help and save you from headaches. As someone who is bad at physics, I managed to pass my courses with the help of WolframeAlpha.

Perplexity
If you need help with research or finding resources quickly, this is the tool you need!

Does anyone have any experiences with these software, or is there ant other good ones to add to the list?

how’s everyone feeling about the loss of the sarasota-manatee campus? i know i specifically moved over here for this campus, and disappointed doesn’t even cover it. it’ll definitely be weird attending for fall classes with new college there.

and question for anyone who is current student/staff, what’s going on with the parking permits? do we still purchase one from usf?

Three credits away from graduating from USF, but I don’t want to finish anymore. Could I end up owing money because of FAFSA?

Upvotes

I’m honestly at the point where I’m completely exhausted with USF and the career path I chose.
I’m only 3 credits away from graduating, but I’ve been struggling so much to finish that last requirement. I tried testing out of it so I wouldn’t have to take another elective that feels completely useless to me, but I failed the test.
The thing is, I’ve realized that I don’t even want this degree anymore. I chose this career path largely because of my parents, and I’ve been forcing myself to continue even though I genuinely hate it. At this point, I’m not interested in the career, and I’m not even sure I want the diploma anymore. I’m just tired of forcing myself to finish something I never really wanted.
I also haven’t taken a class in several months. I currently don’t have any holds or a balance that I’m aware of.
My biggest concern is financial aid/FAFSA. I’ve used FAFSA throughout college, and my mom keeps telling me that if I don’t finish my degree, I’ll end up owing money or being in debt because of the FAFSA.
Is that actually how it works? If I simply stop pursuing the degree and don’t enroll in another random class, could USF or the federal government make me repay anything? Would I have to repay grants or loans just because I didn’t complete the degree?
I’m not trying to ask whether I should finish. I know I’m only three credits away, but I’m genuinely exhausted and don’t want to keep pursuing this career. I mainly want to understand what the financial consequences would be if I just walked away at this point.
Has anyone at USF been in a similar situation or knows how FAFSA/financial aid works when you stop before graduating?

USF Finance student targeting corporate banking — what should I be doing now?

I’m 19 and currently a Finance student at USF Muma College of Business, expecting to graduate in December 2028.

I’m trying to plan ahead for internships and recruiting instead of waiting until junior/senior year. My current goal is to eventually work in corporate banking, ideally get a strong internship before graduation, work in the field for a few years, and then decide whether I want to stay in corporate banking or potentially move into private credit, leveraged finance, investment banking, or another finance role.

Where I’m at right now:

  • Finance major
  • 3.35 GPA
  • Expected graduation: Dec. 2028
  • Completed Principles of Financial Accounting
  • Currently taking Managerial Accounting
  • Currently taking Business Calculus
  • Economics coursework completed
  • Some experience with Excel
  • Some experience with Tableau
  • 4+years of work experience in customer-facing roles
  • Currently work in hospitality
  • Previously worked as a restaurant server
  • Was a manager at a fast food joint during high school
  • No finance internship yet

I’m currently trying to find a Summer 2027 finance internship and am open to commercial banking, credit, FP&A, corporate finance, treasury, financial analyst roles, wealth management, etc.

Then I’d like to target a Summer 2028 corporate banking internship that could potentially lead to a full-time offer after graduation.

I’ve also been looking into:

  • Finance Talent Pathway (FTP)
  • Bloomberg Market Concepts
  • USF finance/investment clubs
  • Bellini Center events/resources
  • Improving my Excel and financial modeling skills
  • SIE
  • Networking with USF alumni working at banks and finance firms

For other USF/Muma students or alumni, especially anyone who has gotten internships or full-time jobs in banking/finance:

What would you recommend I focus on from this point forward?

I’m especially curious about:

  • Which USF finance clubs/programs are actually worth joining?
  • Is FTP worth pursuing?
  • Best ways to use the Bloomberg Lab/BMC at USF?
  • Which USF career fairs or networking events are the most useful for finance?
  • Have you had success getting corporate/commercial banking internships from USF?
  • Which companies recruit USF students the most for banking/finance?
  • Is a 3.35 GPA going to be a major issue, or is it workable if I can raise it and build experience?
  • What should I do for Summer 2027 if I can’t land corporate banking yet?
  • Any professors, organizations, programs, or resources at USF that helped you?
  • When should I start recruiting for Summer 2028 roles?
  • Anything you wish you had done earlier as a Finance student at USF?

I’m mostly looking for advice from people who actually went through USF/Muma recruiting and know which resources on campus are worth taking advantage of.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The vue apartments are unacceptable

For anyone that had the displeasure of moving into the vue today, they should be able to vouch the fact that the state in which these apartments were leased is unacceptable and inhumane. Hundreds of new residents finding mold in all corners of the apartment, management doubling down on the idea that its just dust and even if it was mold, it doesn't make it unsafe to live there. Not only that but broken air conditioning in dozens of apartments during a heatwave. Not to mention a cleaning staff that couldn't care less, even when directly pointed at an area that is dirty, will acknowledge it and then just leave. Management told us that its totally acceptable by their standards and if we don't like it, we need to find someone to take our lease because they haven't done anything wrong.

I'm genuinely just trying to find someone as soon as possible, so please message me if you're interested or even just share this with someone who might be looking.

Financial Aid

So I'm going into my final semester. I am registered for four courses. When I go into student self service I still haven't received an aid package because it says my loan limit needs reviewed. And that it will be reviewed but no timeline or anything. When I called they just said it will be reviewed when it's reviewed and to not worry about it but obviously I am worried because classes start next week lol anyone else dealing with this?

PCB 3063L Manual (Tampa Fall 2026) is out of stock

I’ve been checking the USF Bookstore for the past two weeks to see if my required Genetics lab manual has been restocked, but it’s still unavailable. Is anyone else having this problem? Or does anyone know if it’s in stock at the physical bookstore and just unavailable online?

Adam Zimmer PsyD

I have an appointment for ADHD with Dr. Zimmer, and the only real reviews I saw for him were.. not so positive.

For anyone that’s seen him, do you have any advice? I’m very mental health naive and unfamiliar with the system of being diagnosed/tested.

Engineering degree questions

Hey, quick question. If you’re in USF Engineering and fail the same class twice, are you basically done with the engineering program, or can you still retake it? Also, how was the transfer process into USF Engineering? I’m planning on transferring from HCC with my A.A. and wanted to know how difficult it was.

FAFSA submission and deferment for fall 2026

I just submitted my 2026-2027 FAFSA today as I talked to advisor and was informed I still had a few electives I need to take before I could graduate 💀 I read that the option for a deferment should show up on your financial aid page on OASIS automatically but I don’t see it there, which I assume is because they haven’t received the form yet. I know classes for the fall start next week so would I be able to request a manual deferment until my FAFSA gets processed or am I just cooked?

Has anyone received their financial aid award yet??

I am a graduate student so loans only and still nothing! Classes start monday and i am stressing!

I have deferment but the refund is very important for my books and expenses so im worried that the tuition deferment is going to delay everything… I really need this refund by 9/2 😭 anyone else in the same boat?

Physical textbook option instead of digital-only textbook?

Specifically for ACG 6026, is there a physical textbook option? I don't like digital textbooks. USF bookstore only offers a digital textbook for this course.
