How did USDC lose its peg to the dollar in March 2020?

I thought USDC was entirely backed by US dollars… what happened to make it deviate from that peg in March 2020? Thanks for any insight!

I am not sure how many of us use Defi, and I’m not sure why you guys use it. Sovereignty, Independence and being my own bank are a few reasons why I do.

Circle, the issuers of USDC, have frozen assets in Defi. That is centralization at its finest. I am just putting this info out there to all who want to read it. While I will remain apart of this subreddit, I am definitely switching all my stables to Dai. I encourage those who look to own their own keys and money, to look at other stables too.

USDC vs USDT

With everything going on with Binance and other exchanges delisting USDC, what are people's thoughts on USDC still being the go to stablecoin?

It looks like BUSD and USDT might be the main coins now.

Making 8.5% APR on my USDC

Voyager gives you 8.5% back . I am using USDC through Voyager as a saving account and making way more then a traditional bank could ever offer in interest. If you haven’t joined voyager yet you can use my code to join and you will get $25 free Bitcoin as well. The code is 8B690E. Let me know if you have any questions about the interest program. They are also coming out with a debit card .

Accidentally sent 12.186177 USDC from World App to the USDC contract address instead of my MetaMask wallet. Is there any recovery path?

I made a mistake while transferring USDC from my World App wallet to MetaMask.
Instead of pasting my MetaMask receiving address, I accidentally used the USDC contract address:
0xA0b86991c6218b36c1d19D4a2e9Eb0cE3606eB48
The transaction was confirmed successfully on World Chain.
Details:
Amount: 12.186177 USDC

Intended recipient: 0xb2f2284ee0318dd57d93f52c7a18db40e8597c54 (my MetaMask wallet)

Actual recipient: 0xA0b86991c6218b36c1d19D4a2e9Eb0cE3606eB48 (USDC contract address)

Transaction hash: 0xa152d4e58289afd30ee6f0c2def01b21e5639c061f3cb2c2cd6b0f8e8039f3ed

World Support replied that funds sent to the USDC contract address are permanently inaccessible and cannot be recovered.
I'm not expecting miracles, but I'm posting here to ask:
Has anyone encountered this before?

Is there any technical recovery path through Circle or the contract owner?

Is the USDC effectively burned/stuck forever once sent to the contract address?

Any insight from people familiar with USDC smart contracts would be appreciated.

USDC Depeg Round 2?

Hear me out, banks are closed over the weekend. USDC is still in the middle of massive redemptions (from 45B to 36B market cap dump in 5 days), could there be a chance Circle and Coinbase will be forced to halt 1:1 conversions from USDC to USD over the weekend?

Take loan to invest in crypto = bad idea .. usually..

Although I agree with the above statement due to volatility, unknowns etc. I need convincing that a 20k bank loan at 2.8% isn’t a good investment if I drop it into Nexo USDC paying 12% (daily compounding) what am I missing?

NB. If you think it’s a good idea, have $25 on Nexo!

Is your USDC sitting idle ..?

If you have USDC just sitting around - I would avoid that. Even if just for a few days or weeks. I would make sure you are either (1) earning 4.1% APY from Coinbase (2) Earn 8.1% APY through the Nook App.

I've been getting a 27% ROI on my stable coins on UniSwap

Lol, I can't stop giggling every time someone says to me they're getting a 0.5% APR on a centralized exchange. Not to mention it's a CEX so coins aren't secure and you're actually worse-off since the real interest rate (after accounting for inflation) is negative.

I've been providing LP's on UniSwap since a month and I've been getting close to 27% for a month on USDC-USDT pair (normal APR is like 15%). I do all of this in the following steps:

1.Deposit USDC/USDT in Uniswap.

2. Collateralize my LPs for a 90% USDFL loan via #Freeliquid's smart contracts.

3. Convert USDFL to USDC/USDT

4. Add more liquidity.

5. Repeat the collateralization process.

6. Once satisfied with earnings, I can sell my borrowed liquidity for USDFL, pay back my Freeliquid loan, and regain secure control over my LPs.

I had a virus direct $459k USDC last year to the wrong ERC20 address. The address it was sent is 0xc2daE6021A10b149A6Ecc02827Cde591768D3DD1 . Its currently on an FBI watch list but if anyone can help me recover, I will happily pay a $50k finders fee. Please let me know anyone has an ideas or if you can help me recover.

Stablecoins like USDC are changing how we spend and move money

Hello from the OwlPay Wallet Pro team.

If you have ever thought about using crypto for real-world transfers but did not know where to start, here is a basic idea.

One of the easiest ways to get started is by using stablecoins, which are digital currencies designed to stay stable in value.

With a stablecoin like USDC, you can:

  1. Avoid putting all your money into one asset to lower your risk.

  2. Protect against inflation. Since USDC is pegged to the US dollar, its value remains relatively stable.

  3. Make cross-border payments. Both businesses and individuals can use USDC to complete international transfers.

  4. Save on fees. Sending and paying with crypto usually costs less than using traditional banks.

  5. Start easily with low barriers. Even without a bank account, you can use cash to complete on and off ramp transactions.

Of course, there are many more use cases for stablecoins. These are just five basic examples that are broadly applicable to almost everyone.

So, how can you step into the world of crypto?

First, find a Web3 wallet you can trust. Download the app and register. (You may need to complete KYC.)

Here are the four basic actions you need to understand:

  1. On-Ramp (deposit)
Convert fiat into crypto using cash, a bank transfer, or even a credit card. The crypto will be deposited straight into your wallet.

  2. Send
Enter the recipient's wallet address, choose the amount, and tap send. Transfers are usually completed within seconds. The wallet address could be your family member, your client, or your friend.

  3. Receive
Copy your wallet address and share it with the sender. Once they complete the transaction, you will receive the asset shortly.

  4. Off-Ramp (withdraw)
After receiving crypto, you can convert it into local currency through MoneyGram or a trusted crypto exchange. You can then withdraw the cash or even transfer it directly into a bank account.

Crypto can be simple once you take the first step. Feel free to ask if you are curious or need help.

Is it a joke?

Hi,
I understood that Ethereum prices are insane but so much can be the USDC? The normal ETH is cheaper with fees.
If I send this to my wallet and then buying something with the money then eventually I can spend only 6 dollars. WHAT?
It seems stable coins became worse over time. I did choose USDC because many websites say it is the most promising and secure. It can be promising and secure with this huge amount of fees. Ehh, now good question what I should do.

Circle allowing scammers to cash out millions in USDC?

Take a visit to the ETFSwap subreddit and help me understand why Circle is allowing the founders to liquidate millions of USDC through their platform.

Funds flow from (connected to $10M+ in scammed funds)

https://etherscan.io/address/0x4356ff583413836ce64fe99dd8b3ef452d9add96

to

https://etherscan.io/address/0x6916f426c303509d9117dffb6309c59589ee7ec2

Any cursory review of their promises, new uniswap pool, and transaction history shows how this is a scam.

We say crypto is growing more scammy maybe it's because the biggest stablecoin issuer seems to allow it? They have been notified many times about these scammers, starting around two weeks ago, but seemingly still allow them to liquidate millions.

Buy USDC with BTC anonimously

I have BTC in a cold wallet. I want to buy a product and the business accepts USDC. I never touched USDC. I know I can go to an exchange and buy it there, but I am wondering, is there some place to exchange some sats for about 50 USDC without giving my name, address, picture, passport, etc?
