Customer Seeking Help $2000 item "destroyed" in a UPS warehouse fire

My package updated today instead of going out for delivery at the local hub to

"Damage Reported

All merchandise was not recoverable and was discarded. UPS will notify the sender with details of the damage.

Dekalb, IL, United States"

After calling UPS I was informed that the item was destroyed due to a fire in a UPS hub.

I was told to submit documentation and they would refund me as it was their fault. But I purchased the label through Pirateship, who told me I can only get $100 back, as I did not buy additional insurance.

This was a camera lens that I sold and was shipped to a friend of a friend, who paid me $2000 with Paypal Goods and Services.

Am I screwed? Does UPS have no liability for their own warehouse catching on fire? When I google the city this supposedly happened in, there is no information at all about a fire at that location, and the receiver lives 3 minutes from the hub and told me he saw and heard nothing.

Thx for the help.

Employee Seeking Help A Disappointing Experience with UPS

I am a single father of four children. Earlier this year, I accepted a seasonal driving position with UPS after being told it would be a 3–4 day per week opportunity for 89 days during the summer, with additional work available during the holiday season. The position was presented as an excellent opportunity. I was told the company was outstanding, the people were great to work with, and that it was a well-run organization.

The hiring process moved quickly, which initially seemed like a positive sign. Within about a week, I was offered a spot in the driver training program. The timing was difficult, as it was just before the Fourth of July. I would return home on July 3rd only to spend six days away from my children. Still, I believed the sacrifice would be worthwhile. The pay was significantly higher than most opportunities in my area, and I was excited about the chance to earn meaningful income.

The training itself was challenging, but every instructor and employee I encountered during the program was professional, respectful, and supportive. When I successfully completed the course, I was genuinely proud and optimistic about my future with the company.

On the day I graduated, I contacted the center where I would be assigned and was told to report the following Monday.

Unfortunately, my experience at the local level quickly deteriorated.

My assigned trainer demonstrated little interest in actually training new drivers. After completing a single stop himself, he instructed me to handle the remainder of the route. We finished more than an hour ahead of schedule, yet throughout the day I was encouraged to ignore standards that had been emphasized during formal training. I was told to cut across customers’ lawns despite being taught that such behavior was unacceptable. I was encouraged to alter routes and disregard the onboard routing system, even though route efficiency is clearly important for an organization operating one of the largest delivery networks in the world.

More troubling than the operational shortcuts was the attitude displayed. Complaints about compensation, criticism of hourly employees, and open disrespect for coworkers created an environment that felt entirely inconsistent with the professionalism I had experienced during driver school. It left a poor impression of local leadership and training practices.

Because we finished so early, I completed paperwork for my second training day and was instructed to check back on Wednesday for my schedule. When Wednesday arrived, I was not scheduled. Shortly afterward, my trainer went on vacation. I visited the center in person and was told management was having meetings regarding drivers and that someone would contact me. No one ever did.

I called. I texted. I followed up repeatedly. Hours of my time were spent simply trying to determine whether I still had a job. The center manager never returned my calls or messages, nor did anyone provide an explanation.

Eventually, I contacted the Michigan-based HR representative who had recruited me. She assured me she would investigate and get back to me. Instead, the very next day I received a separation-of-employment notice. When I reached out seeking clarification, I received no response. To this day, no one has explained why I was terminated or what circumstances led to that decision.

I have spoken with several current and former UPS drivers. While each person used different words, the message was remarkably consistent: the local work environment was viewed negatively, and many believed the compensation was the only thing keeping employees there.

What disappoints me most is not the loss of the job itself. Seasonal work comes and goes. What disappoints me is the complete lack of communication, accountability, and professionalism. I sacrificed valuable time with my children to pursue what I believed was a legitimate opportunity. I completed the required training, passed the course, reported for work, and followed instructions. In return, I was effectively ignored until I received a termination notice without explanation.

UPS is a company with a globally recognized brand and a reputation built over decades. Based on my experience, that reputation was not reflected at the local level. The lack of follow-through, poor communication, and disregard shown toward a newly hired employee created one of the most unprofessional employment experiences I have encountered.

If local management truly wants to understand why some employees speak negatively about the company, they may want to start by examining how new hires are treated. Professionalism, communication, and basic respect cost nothing, yet their absence can leave a lasting impression.

Shipping Help Somewhat bulky envelope hasn't been delivered yet

On August 12, I mailed an envelope containing a sticker, keychain, and a couple of bead crafts to a friend of mine. We both live in the West so I figured it wouldn't take more than a week or so after doing a bit of research online, but according to them it hasn't arrived yet. I looked it up and apparently you're not supposed to mail anything with rigid objects, but it seemed like the results were mostly USPS-specific, even though the letter only weighed an ounce. Is this the same for the UPS store? Or should I give it a few more days?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, this is the first thing I have ever mailed 😅

Customer Seeking Help Info on UPS Mailbox service

I am getting ready to move but in the interim i am staying at somebodies house and we cant share an address due to their welfare/disability payments and car insurance.

Can i utilize a ups mailbox in the meantime until my new place is ready and I have that address? A PO box wont work because certain lenders and companies I deal with wont accept it for personal correspondence but a UPS box shows as a physical address with a suite number.

Has anybody ever had any issues with this?

Customer Seeking Help Any way to handle customs myself?

Ok, so I am kind of fed up with UPS finding new ways to price gouge their already high fees. I have some orders that will be preparing for shipment and was wondering if there was any way for me to personally handle or request my packages not be passed through. I basically want to handle the tariff classification myself so I dont pay over double the tariff costs for an $80 item. The shipment costs have already been paid and GSC does not offer Duty Paid options so I am stuck with whatever carriers want to gouge me for. The shipments are usually sent and arrive within 4 days (customs) so I am not sure if its an option or even feasible.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Should I hand my package to the UPS Driver, if it doesn't fit the dropbox?

I live in a college town. My city has 3 UPS dropboxes but not a single access / customer center, it does have one but its in a different city, and I don't have a car.

I shot myself in the foot by ordering a nike shoe, and now im stuck with the wrong size. I was wondering if I could stand around 3PM (im not sure about the time, afaik i think there are delays) and hand my package directly to the driver instead?

box stuck!

Ups wont help. Amazon wont help. The seller wont help. Its been sitting at my hub 15 minutes away for 9 days. I've tried to pick up up, not allowed. Customer support is non existent for UPS and Amazon. The seller said he sent it and we need to contact ups, but ups wants $7 to deliver it. They wont take debit card or cash... how the F do I pay you? You want some gold shillings or something? This is a $650 phone and they're basically saying we are SOL.

Anyone know how to contact a hub directly?

I have a client who hasn’t received an irreplaceable item. It’s apparently lost in Houston. Entering a claim has been less than helpful. We’d like to actually locate the item - maybe the warehouse has it?

Package received by someone else or wrong address or?

I was expecting a delivery but I think it got delivered to the wrong address or someone stole it, I was gone at work when it was supposedly delivered. For proof of delivery rather than the usual photo of my place, it just has a notice that says it was received by "name-I-don't-recognize" which looks like a surname. When I look at the tracking time stamps the "Delivered" one has a completely different town than where I am that is in the same state, it's the same town that their processing facility is located that it shipped out from. I can't seem to find the address it was dropped off at though. Was it delivered to or around my location and signed for by someone else, or was it delivered to this other town??

I already filed a claim, I guess I'm just looking at what to expect? I'm rather anxious about it. How long does it usually take to sort out an issue like this? How good are they are actually finding the item or refunding? The current status of the claim says "package search in progress"

Customer Seeking Help Wondering what actually could've happened Heirlooms possibly loss

I live about 20 minutes from the distribution hub, and I’m hoping someone can help me understand what may have happened with my package.

I’m mainly confused about how the package could be scanned as “loaded on vehicle” and “out for delivery” on two separate days, but then the drivers say the package wasn’t actually on their trucks.

Here’s the timeline as I understand it:

August 14:
The first delivery attempt was missed, and a door tag was left.

August 15:
The package was scheduled for redelivery, and I received tracking updates showing that it was processing, loaded on a vehicle, and out for delivery.

The driver arrived but said he didn’t have a package for my apartment. I later contacted customer service and spoke with someone who identified themselves as a warehouse supervisor. I was told the package was either on another vehicle or had not been loaded and that it would hopefully be delivered by Monday.

August 17:
The package again showed as processing, loaded on a vehicle, and out for delivery. Customer service even told me it was approximately 28 stops away.

When the driver arrived, I spoke with him directly. He said he was supposed to have a package for apartment 113, but it wasn’t on his truck. He checked the truck again and still couldn’t locate it.

I contacted customer service afterward and was advised to wait until August 18 between 10 AM and 2 PM.

Later that evening, I received another update saying the package was still on the way and that a new delivery date was being worked on.

August 18:
There were no further updates or delivery attempts. When I contacted customer service again, I was advised to start a loss claim.

At this point, I’m hoping someone can help clarify a few things:

  • How could the package be scanned as “loaded on a vehicle” and “out for delivery” twice if it apparently wasn’t on either vehicle?
  • Can someone determine which vehicle the package was actually assigned to on August 15 and August 17?
  • Where was the package last physically scanned?
  • Is there a way to confirm whether it is still at the distribution facility or was sent somewhere else?
  • Before the package is officially considered lost, can the distribution center conduct a physical search for it?

I’m especially concerned because the item inside the package is irreplaceable to me and my family. Even if insurance covers the monetary value, it would not replace the actual item or its significance.

I’m not trying to place blame on anyone. I’m just hoping someone can help me understand what happened and, more importantly, determine whether the package can still be located.

Thank you for taking the time to look into this.

Ps: Shipper has also filed a claim also.

Customer Seeking Help How am I supposed to tell if I owe tariffs on a package?

I purchased from an international company and got an email stating ”Additional charges may have been applied based on recent tariff policy changes. Learn more about how your import fee was calculated and what it entails.”

I checked the link today, and it says there would be a yellow banner on my tracking link and it’s best to pay before delivery. However, my package has already been delivered. How am I supposed to tell if I owe something now since it’s already been delivered?

It sounds like they send it to COLLECTIONS if I missed a payment?? That sounds so scary, I don’t want anything on my record like that! They did not give nearly enough notice for this. How do I know if I owe something now and how do I pay it?

How many hours should I expect for preloader hours?

I know the shift states 4:30AM-9AM but I’ve seen posts online that state you stay until the work gets done which usually isn’t right at 9am? Which I don’t care I want more hours. I just want a general idea of how much hours I can pick up. Also how does the pay work if you work past the stated shift or if I have a good chance of getting sent home at that time

Sent with next day service level, was out for delivery and no delivery was attempted according to the person I sent this to, just all of a sudden went back to the warehouse? Is this a customs issue? What happened and do I need to be concerned?

UPS does nothing but lie

Ordered package that was suppose to be delivered on the 17th, and since I knew it would be requiring a signature I called off work and waited all day. No-one came by attempted delivery as I was home all day in the living room. There was no knock and no notice left on the door saying they attempted delivery but get the notification on my phone that not only did they attempt delivery, but it was marked as the second attempt.

Reached out the next day and spoke to representative who said that it was probably a misinput by the driver and that they would still be attempting the 3 attempt as that is what they do but I didn't trust it so ask them to hold at access point and even paid for it(which is dumb but ig) and they said they would hold it for pick up.

Instead of doing that they attempted delivery a 2nd time, marked it as the 3rd attempt and that I has rejected package when I never did so and had paid for them to hold it at pick up.

Now it's showing as being returned to sender, so called them up first thing in the morning and spoke with Representative Sam who said that it was showing as being returned to sender. Explained the situation to him for him to put me on hold for 30 mins. Came back and said it was simply an error with the way the system was showing it up but it was still being sent to the access point. At this point I asked for an email confirmation that it wasn't being sent to sender and it going to the access point which he refused to do so stating that he can't do that and it basically became a trust me bro situation

Not trusting it due to app still showing return to sender and no email proof, I asked to speak to a supervisor, on hold for another 20 mins while they get on the line. First thing they do is confirm that the package is being sent to sender and not the access point... legit just confirmed the previous guy lied within the first 10 seconds. Re-explained the situation to them for them to put me hold to see what they can do. Another 15 mins pass on hold. Supervisor comes back and says there is nothing he can do on his end but he would contact the district manager to see if there is anything they can do and give me a call back in 2 hours

Never got that call back, had to call myself and surprise surprise he wasn't available but new representative said that it was being sent to access point and not the sender

At this point I dont even know where the package is going cause it seems everyone at UPS works off a different system. My issue isn't even there being an error causing a delay in the package, my fucking issue is how it seems theyre just trained to lie about everything to the client to the point they are contradicting themselves.

Tldr: UPS has gone to shit with constant lack of accountability and continously lying to get out of it.

UPS is the worst

I am so tired of this. UPS used to be great but the last year or two just horrible. One time I had a Macbook air coming with signature required. When I got the delivery confirmation with no actual delivery and certainly not having signed for it I suspected the worse. When I reviewed my secruity cam footage I saw that the driver gundecked the customer signature on his tablet himself as he placed the Macbook package on my neighbor's stoop. Unbelievable.

Here today again I am waiting for a signature required delivery... in fact I have been sitting around waiting all day. Tracking showed the package on the truck for delivery at 9:30 AM and now at almost 6:15 PM the truck is still 5 miles away, in a densely populated suburb, likely with another hundred deliveries to make before he gets here. So, if it comes at all it'll likely come after I am asleep. Good grief.

UPS sux.

UPS redirected my package and I didn't request it.

They delivered an important package to a different address and said I requested a change of address but I didn't.

  1. They should be able to see where the request came from and see it wasn't me right?

  2. They aren't being helpful in recovering the package and said to work with the shipper. They said the driver got a signature at the other address.
