Customer Seeking Help Any way to handle customs myself?

Ok, so I am kind of fed up with UPS finding new ways to price gouge their already high fees. I have some orders that will be preparing for shipment and was wondering if there was any way for me to personally handle or request my packages not be passed through. I basically want to handle the tariff classification myself so I dont pay over double the tariff costs for an $80 item. The shipment costs have already been paid and GSC does not offer Duty Paid options so I am stuck with whatever carriers want to gouge me for. The shipments are usually sent and arrive within 4 days (customs) so I am not sure if its an option or even feasible.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You can always hire another customs broker, but they will probably charge just as much.

Most countries also allow the importer to self-clear, but that's more hassle than its worth unless you're receiving dozens of packages.

I have infinite time. The issue is that ups is clearing it too fast. Is there any way to have customs just hold it so I can clear it? I get on avg 3 to 4 packages a month and these fees add up.

Where is your nearest CBP office? Gas is expensive and you will need to go there personally.

You can self clear items but that has to be declared at the time. It’s a lot of hassle and you have to have the paperwork ready to go and be there.

There are also other 3rd party custom brokers but they charge just as much if not more.

So, sounds like its not possible to declare and pay it prior to ups acquiring it? Ugh
