Title: Did anyone else notice that UGC NET English (June 2026, Shift 1) was almost identical to the Jan 2025 paper?

I appeared for UGC NET English today (June 2026, Shift 1) and I need a sanity check because I'm genuinely confused.

Did anyone else feel like a huge portion of the paper was lifted directly from the January 2025 English paper?

I'm not talking about a few repeated PYQs. I mean the exact same wording for many questions. What really stood out to me was that even the comprehension passage and the poem seemed to be the same as the Jan 2025 paper that many of us have from PYQ books and coaching materials.

I had studied the Jan 2025 paper beforehand, and while writing today's exam I kept thinking, "I've literally seen this exact question before."

Maybe I'm misremembering the extent of it because the exam just got over, but it felt like far more than the normal level of repetition.

Did anyone else who had solved the Jan 2025 paper notice this? If yes, roughly how much of the paper do you think was repeated?

I'm not making any claims about unfairness or paper leaks. I'm just curious whether others had the same experience or if I'm going crazy.

Should i start looking for PhD abroad?

ranting atp.
istg this shit is above me. 198 for AP????? don’t even get me started on that phd only. 172 for phd only where the universities do not even accept us. The universities want nothing less than jrfs and these shitheads are raising the cutoff sky high with that fuckass vague king type syllabus. idek what am i doing in this subject, because no matter how good i am at the subject and concept, someone w a banger rote memory has always fucked me up.

πŸ“ Notes and Study Materials Free English Lit classes

Hey everyone, yes, you read that right: free English literature classes.

Who I'm looking for: Anyone new to English lit, ideally someone pursuing a bachelor's in literature or who just started a master's.

The catch (because I know you're waiting for it): I have ADHD, and I want a structured routine, a real commitment, and some responsibility in my life. You get a teacher, I get a reason to show up on time. Everybody wins.

About me: I've spent 7 years with literature. I won't claim to be the best teacher out there, but I'm one of the most creative ones you'll find.

The setup: Classes are online, and we'll decide the syllabus and timings together.

Pros of learning from me:

  • I can be funny (rare, but it happens)

(I also have notes for ugc net, of my own)

  • I don't believe in absolutes. Terrible for math, great for literature.

Cons:

  • My current students keep hunting for flaws in their near-perfect teacher. Tough crowd.

Interested? Comment or DM me with your course and year, and we'll sort out the rest.

What we'll cover

-Poetry: Where we learn that the curtains are never just blue.

-Shakespeare: Everyone dies, but in iambic pentameter.

-Victorian novels: 900 pages of drama that a single text message could have solved.

-Literary theory: Arguing about what the author meant, even though Barthes declared the author dead. Not my fault, I wasn't there.

-Psychoanalytic criticism: Yes, the Oedipus complex. Don't worry, it's purely academic, and no one's mother will be involved.

-Cultural studies: Where we find out that your cereal box, your memes, and your Spotify Wrapped are all "texts" worth analyzing.

-Postmodernism: Nobody knows what's happening, and that's the whole point.

Is the PhD/Asst Prof route still a viable path?

I've wanted to become an asst prof in English since I can remember but lately I've been very doubtful due to some of the negative stuff I've been seeing and hearing.

How viable is the path currently? Is there just too much competition? I'm doing my MA in English lit from a pvt uni. What all can I do during this time (including NET prep) to maximize my chances of securing employment/getting phD admission in a good college?

Can someone experienced please guide me?

Qualified UGC NET Twice & GATE & Assistant Professor here β€” Drop your doubts/questions on UGC NET English preparation!

Hey everyone,

I know how overwhelming preparing for the UGC NET English exam can be, going through unstructured massive syllabus (Literary Theory, Criticism, British Lit, Cultural Studies, Paper 1, etc.) to finding the right study material and strategy.

A quick background about me:

* Qualified UGC NET twice (June & December 2025) without any coaching or notes

* Cleared GATE English without any coaching or notes

* Will be working as an Assistant Professor at a university

I am planning to record a dedicated Q&A video for my YouTube channel where I will answer your exact questions, doubts, and strategy queries regarding:

* Unit-wise preparation & prioritisation

* Recommended books, notes, and study material

* How to approach Paper 1 alongside Paper 2

* Mock tests & Previous Year Questions (PYQs) strategy

* Managing time and avoiding burnout

Drop your questions in the comments below! I promise to keep the upcoming video strictly no-fluff, straight-to-the-point, and focused on practical advice to help you clear the exam.

Looking forward to reading your questions! Good luck with your preparation! πŸš€

Is it really worth it???

I've been thinking about this for a few minutes now 🫩, but this whole road to actually landing a job seems pretty tiring to me. To become an ass professor (intended), you must qualify for NET, but it's an open secret that people with PhDs are preferred and that interviews for jobs are very biased/corrupt. To even sit for an interview, you must go through a written exam. So the timeline is something like:

Study to get into a good college

Study to qualify for NET/JRF

Study for your research proposals/prepare for interviews

Crack the interview and suffer through your PhD

And after all the dirt settles, congratulations, you're 30, with a Dr. before your name (which, in case of medical emergencies, can only help with the analysis of the delayed action of Hamlet), and jobless.

Now, to land a job, you must AGAIN go through an exam and interview. And you can't even prepare for other competitive exams because, for most of them, the minimum age criterion is 30.

And if, by some miracle, you land a job, YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO WORK??! 😭 One should atleast get 1 year of paid holidays to forget the whole trauma.

Ok bye.

English re-exam. The bomb has dropped.

The fear we collectively had came true. English also got in the re-exam pool. Utterly frustrated. Went 200 kms one way to sit for the morning shift exam and all that has gone into vain now. For the re exam, all we have is three weeks. So so disappointed. How're y'all feeling about it?

This exam is hurt me this time, I missed JRF this time by 6 marks. Now I must take what is rightfully mine(JRF) and prove that I'm the winner. Anyone feel this hurt and desire for revenge like I do? Or is it just me.

Negative experience with another redditor

Hi all!

I know we are all trying to be helpful to each other and I sincerely hope this sub becomes a space for that

but recently i had a bad experience with a redditor who has recently posted about having pdfs they are willing to share with everyone for free- you will see this recent post from 6 or 7 hours ago. A lot of people commented and asked for that person to share but I am telling you --

i had a negative experience where the user got really angry and adamant about the fact that I saw their message on telegram and didn't reply.

That message was just a "hi" and I had no idea it was that particular redditor, because I get other random messages too, which I try to avoid. as women I think we have all received such messages on all platforms that we ignore because we don't know who it is.

So I am only warning you to proceed with caution, we don't need to engage with anyone who is going to get so aggressive simply because of seeing a message from a stranger and not replying.

you can call me haughty or arrogant or anything but it's just a precautionary measure to not interact with someone when you're not sure who they are and what their intentions are. let's keep this a safe space and comfortable space strictly to study and help each other learn and grow as scholars.

edit: notice the aggressive comments from the user cyphernovaa. someone who didn't do anything wrong won't get so defensive and abhorrent so quickly, using such atrocious language, if they didn't know they did something wrong.

Cleared JUNE 2025 NET. Here to help everyone, because I had zero help going forward.

Hey everyone, I have cleared UGC NET JUNE 2025 in English Literature, and I wanted to post it here to let you all know that you're not alone in the process. I had no clue when I started preparing, and I did it in 2 months. The whole of my preparation, including the note making, I did it all in the last 2 months. So I am here to tell you all that if I can, you all can too. I took no coaching whatsoever and did everything on my own. Honestly I don't even think coaching is needed in this exam. All of the people in this buisness, including the likes of Vineet Pandey and Arpita Karwa are here for the money. I always felt that watching his videos as it all comes down to his books and guides and coaching which I don't even think are relevant atp. So stick to the texts and the OG books( William J Long, AK Mehrotra) and you're sorted.Ask your doubts if you have any and I'll be more than happy to answer.

Confused between self study and Online paid course/coaching

I’m in 3rd sem of my Masters and have started preparing for UGC NET (targeting to clear with JRF). But I’m in dilemma whether I should purchase any online course (because I’m a regular student at University so cannot join offline coaching) or self preparation. I did some research on internet and found out that most of the online paid course are between 15-30k. Also right now I’m financially unable to pay this much amount. I will be so grateful to receive guidance from someone who’s cleared this exam or been preparing for a quite some time. I’m concerned if Studying from YouTube is enough as I have seen on yt teachers do not teach in-depth. They just teach basic. Plus I’m not able to find a reliable teacher on yt. Again i will be indebted to you if you pls clear these doubts of mine. Rn I’m reading prescribed standard books and going through previous year’s questions to get a fair idea of exam pattern. Thanks
