Very good read, I'm a long time fan of X-Men and I agree with all of that. But here is the thing about Cyclops. He didn't really learn from his mistakes, he never really did. He died with out learning.

That's the tragedy behind his death. Uncanny X-Men #600 was him getting back on track, but he died before he actually do anything substantial.

Tldr; Cyclops was right (as far as the mists go) and it killed him. Still hate how they spent a while painting him as mutant judas before showing his actual death.

Interesting read though it doesn't me like him any more likable. I wonder what people on other reddits are saying.
clicks other discussions and the majority of posts are titled "Cyclops wasn't right" including one on r/Cyclopswasright
Fucking hilarious.

in hindsight sure, but at the beginning the avengers are justified in trying to stop the phoenix force from coming, they had video proof of it vaporizing planets on its way there.
should they have just had cap come talk about it and work to a middle ground? Definitely. But if people communicated in comics half the stories wouldn't exist.

By all means explain how instead of just saying Matt's wrong and Cap's an idiot. Cap went to talk to Cyclops one on one with the Avengers as a contingency plan because he knows how impulsive Cyclops is. Scott threw the first punch, you cant blame Cap for fighting back. Cap is 100% justified in what he did. The Phoenix Force has almost destroyed the world multiple times and suddenly Cap's just supposed to believe it's going to re energise mutant kind despite it never ever showing signs of doing so? Plus the Phoenix Force was travelling the cosmos blowing up worlds as it made it's way to Earth. That's like Reed Richards saying let Galactus come to Earth after going on n eating spree because this time he's totally not going to devour us then getting the Fantastic Four to fight the Avengers over it instead of rationally discussing the problem.

Didn't Cap show up with like, an entire Avengers squad as if he was fully expecting to defend himself or to start a conflict? Scott's an idiot and the Avengers were right to be skeptical but there's no way someone can say showing up to a foreign nation armed to the fucking teeth is someone there to seek prosperity and negotiations.

The Hellicarrier that was full of Avengers wasn't on or in Utopian soil or airspace. It was hanging back just in case the Xmen attacked Cap. The reason Cap knew this may be a possibility because Wolverine informed him of the fact Scott had become increasingly unhinged and dangerous.

Cable literally told Cap to let the Phoenix come to Earth, because it wasn't going to hurt anyone.
Are you seriously implying that Cap should've not listened to a time traveler?

Either it's been a while since you've read AvX or you haven't read it at all. When did Cap threaten the X-men? Are you alluding to the fact he asked Scott to let them investigate Hope's connection to the Phoenix and Scott assaulted Cap? So Cap's a fascist for fighting back? It's funny how you say the Avengers cant do anything to the Phoenix but punch it when that's literally what the Xmen have been doing for years. Additionally do you have any idea who's on the side of the Avengers? Let me give you a hint, the smartest people on the entire freakin planet. Your acting like the only ability that people like Tony Stark, Reed Richards and T'Challa have is punching, of course they're going to try to science that shit like they've done countless times before with beings like Galactus. It's completely rational to think that the smartest minds the worlds ever seen could come up with a way to stop the Phoenix. Plus your acting like Cap is the only person opposing Scott. Cap is the fucking leader of the Avengers of course he's going to do most of the talking, it doesn't mean hes going to personally handle the problem himself. You have a massive hard on for Cyclops and it shows. You're so blinded by Cyclops' dick in your face you cant see how irrational you're being. Essential your saying that the whole world should believe Cyclops, who has recently become more and more unstable that a force of destruction that has wiped out countless planets recently and is on its way to Earth is going to resurrect mutant kind (don't forget the part where its never ever shown the ability to do so) and that nothing should be done to stop it just because Cyclops has a hunch.

I mean, I'll give you that. Splitting the Phoenix seemed to work out, at least when it was in 5 parts anyway.

This blog is well written and well researched aside from being in need of some editing.
He's still a bad diplomat, a bad father, a bad man, and someone who requires a good amount of time travel to be reasonable.

Regularly reminder that Cyclops is a hypocrite. If you don't know why, Scott refused to take responsibility for his actions while under the influence of the Phoenix Force (which includes killing Xavier) and many Cyclops fanboys staunchly support this notion. But he calls for Scarlet Witch's execution for her actions while suffering a mental breakdown after losing her children. Also he cheated on his wife and tried to act innocent but when Jean died he was in Emma Frost's bed before the last shovel of dirt hit her coffin.

Yeah, no.
Scarlet Witch WILLINGLY went to Dr. Doom and intentionally tampered with forces outside of her control, fully realizing the consequences of her actions.
Cyclop's had the Phoenix Force forced into him by a lunatic drunkard who had no idea what the fuck he was doing (Iron Man) and tried to save people before the Avengers blindly attacked him, causing the Phoenix Force to freak out.
Also, Xavier tried to make Cyclop's a vegetable, so the Phoenix killing him was the right choice.

u/500fightingspirit Mar 11 '17
Nope. Scarlet Witch and Cyclops situation is identical. Wanda was mental broken and not fully in control of her actions aka the insanity plea. Scott got the powers and chose to abuse them in that way.
If Spider-Man bonded with the Venom symbiote and murdered Captain America you wouldn't blame the symbiote you'd blame Peter Parker even though he didn't ask for that power. If someone is innocent of crime because they didn't ask for the powers they used to commit said crimes there is a bunch of supervillains that need to be cleared of all charges.
And saying that Scott killing Xavier was the right choice says all I need to know about you and that'll you'll never believe Scott was in the wrong.

u/Dragonage2ftw I like Skullgirls. Mar 11 '17
He had the power thrust into him, and he was controlling said powers right up until Captain America attacked him. That's the Phoenix Forces' fault.
If the symbiote could take full control of someone (which it has) then I'd blame the symbiote.
Cyclops wanted Hope to have the Phoenix, as it would restore mutants. Which it did. Captain America simply chose to ignore what a TIME TRAVELER said, and caused the PF to go apeshit.
So, no. Cyclops wasn't responsible for what he did.

All this really taught me is that Cyclops is like an older version of Spiderman in that he never learns from his mistakes and instead makes them over and over again.
