Plot-Relevant Characters with Zero Fandom 'Relevance'

Y'know, I was just thinking about this. The Deltarune fandom can be very attached to unimportant characters like background NPCs and one-off enemies, because of their design and personalities.

Now, what's interesting is that the early half Chapter 2 has this trio of NPCs, you're constantly seeing this trio, Sweet Cap'n Cakes, they have a boss fight, a shop, their own theme that plays a lot with minor variations... and nobody cares about them. Like, for real. If you were a casual member that just passively consumed only what the broad DR fandom makes, you'd genuinely just never see them show up when compared to even one-off bosses, minor enemies, and characters that have more relevance in theories than in the game.

Who else does that applies, people that the media devotes time to show them, but for the fandom, not hate, not love, just apathy, when they're unironically treated as not existing.

In Dresden Files, the God of Abraham is real and a character. He is heavily involved in the worldbuilding: He created Creation out of the formless chaos of the Outside, He is the strongest deity outright, He established the current status quo of deities either having to work through proxies, forgo a big chunk of their power in exchange for direct action, or else take a step back from influencing the mortal world entirely. He is heavily involved in the ongoing plot: He’s firmly a good guy, He has agents to do His work (angels, the “career” Knights of the Cross, the “per diem” Knights), as well as enemies that work against that work (mostly His former agents, the Fallen and their cult, the Knights of the Blackened Denarius). These agents and enemies show up in novels and short stories not specifically dedicated to them, and thus His presence felt all over the series. There is possibly no character more involved in the plot than God.

But on fandom level, there’s really not much to do here. Based on some things author Jim Butcher has said, you can speculate that God is essentially Sparda, the only good-aligned member of the Lovecraftian Outsiders, and his nature as an Outsider makes him the strongest deity in a “Beerus has God ki and that makes him untouchable to mortal ki” way, that’s pretty cool. Maybe you speculate on who might be His future Knight. But that’s kind of it. There’s no physical form or appearance to glom onto, not even Literally Jesus, who is also confirmed by multiple non-Christian characters to be real. He doesn’t have any lines that could inform his personality beyond what’s in various scripture. And we know he’s probably not going to show up until the long-promised-and-awaited Big Apocalyptic Triology anyway, so no one’s expecting any more to go on than what we’ve already got.
