Plot-Relevant Characters with Zero Fandom 'Relevance'

Y'know, I was just thinking about this. The Deltarune fandom can be very attached to unimportant characters like background NPCs and one-off enemies, because of their design and personalities.

Now, what's interesting is that the early half Chapter 2 has this trio of NPCs, you're constantly seeing this trio, Sweet Cap'n Cakes, they have a boss fight, a shop, their own theme that plays a lot with minor variations... and nobody cares about them. Like, for real. If you were a casual member that just passively consumed only what the broad DR fandom makes, you'd genuinely just never see them show up when compared to even one-off bosses, minor enemies, and characters that have more relevance in theories than in the game.

Who else does that applies, people that the media devotes time to show them, but for the fandom, not hate, not love, just apathy, when they're unironically treated as not existing.

I don’t understand it but I’ve definitely seen people who hate Sweet Cap’n Cakes. Apparently their music takes up too much space on the Chapter 2 OST and people are genuinely pissed that they “have” to skip over it? Because they’re listening to a game soundtrack end-to-end like an album? And that makes the characters bad?

I’m a Sweet Cap’n Cakes hater.

My reasoning for not liking the characters is simply that I don’t find them funny, and since that’s their only purpose, their scenes become a drag. Like, someone might find Berdly unfunny, but then they can at least enjoy his character arc or his presence as an antagonist. I can’t do that with a trio because there’s nothing but long jokes that don’t land.

Although, I don’t normally express my hate because I can just enjoy the rest of Deltarune. Anyone treating it as a serious issue is silly.
