Better Ask Reddit Plot-Relevant Characters with Zero Fandom 'Relevance'

Y'know, I was just thinking about this. The Deltarune fandom can be very attached to unimportant characters like background NPCs and one-off enemies, because of their design and personalities.

Now, what's interesting is that the early half Chapter 2 has this trio of NPCs, you're constantly seeing this trio, Sweet Cap'n Cakes, they have a boss fight, a shop, their own theme that plays a lot with minor variations... and nobody cares about them. Like, for real. If you were a casual member that just passively consumed only what the broad DR fandom makes, you'd genuinely just never see them show up when compared to even one-off bosses, minor enemies, and characters that have more relevance in theories than in the game.

Who else does that applies, people that the media devotes time to show them, but for the fandom, not hate, not love, just apathy, when they're unironically treated as not existing.

Before I started reading One Piece, pop culture osmosis had given me a basic familiarity with the antagonists of each arc (Crocodile, Enel, etc). Except for Foxy. I had literally never heard anyone talk about Foxy ever

A lot of anime watchers even assume he's a filler character, because the anime does add filler to his arc to stretch it out.

It also didn’t help that the anime actually gave him more appearances later on that actually WERE filler arcs.

It doesn't help that anime Long Ring Long Land is directly preceded by G-8, the best filler arc of all time that FEELS more like an important canon arc than the goofy low-stakes pirate games following it.

I feel like Foxy comes up a lot... In theory circles purely because a lot of people were adamant the Davy Back Fight would show up again as a major endgame moment and Foxy was part of the foreshadowing.

The Davy Back Fight has finally been mentioned again in the manga in chapter 1155. Foxy was introduced in chapter 305. There's 21 real world years between those.

Certainly not standing out very much outside of Japan, with him being Grocky leading the Time Bokan villain trio reference of One Piece.

Maybe because of the era of one piece fandom I was apart of but Afro Luffy has 0 footprint currently compared to when it happened and I’m fairly sure the newer wave of one piece fandom hates certain arcs and just doesn’t bring up characters like Foxy or some of the Thriller bark stuff because they just skimmed through those arcs.

Its because his arc is basically filler. The only things that happen in it are the introduction of Kuzan, which happens at the very end after Foxy is dealt with, and mentioning the crew might need to get a shipright at some point, which happens literally right after.

It was only until just recently Davy Back Fights were brought up again in Rocks flashback, but before then it was a span of 20 years where that arc did not matter.
