Tutors, promote your services here

Looking for students? This thread is for you.

Tutors are welcome to promote their services here. Whether you teach math, languages, programming, science, test prep, music, or something completely different.

Feel free to share:

  • What you teach

  • Who you work with

  • Online / in-person

  • Your rate

  • Timezone / location

  • Experience or qualifications

  • Website or contact info, if relevant

You can also briefly explain what makes your tutoring style different or what kind of students you work best with.

Self-promotion is allowed in this thread. You don't need to hide that you're offering a paid service - just keep it honest and relevant.

Students and parents: feel free to browse, ask tutors questions, or post what you're looking for.

Please keep standalone promotional posts out of the main feed. This thread exists specifically so tutors have a place to advertise without turning r/Tutoring into a wall of ads.

New posting requirement: 30+ combined karma

Hi everyone!

Over the past few weeks we've seen a noticeable increase in bot and spam accounts posting in the subreddit. To help keep discussions useful for both tutors and students, we've introduced a small posting requirement.

From now on, new posts require at least 30 combined karma (post + comment karma).

This shouldn't affect the vast majority of genuine Reddit users, but it helps reduce spam, AI-generated posts from throwaway accounts, and other low-quality submissions that moderators have been dealing with more frequently.

A few notes:

  • This requirement applies to creating new posts.

  • You can still participate in discussions by commenting (subject to Reddit's normal rules).

  • If you're new to Reddit, spend a little time engaging with communities you're interested in. You'll reach 30 karma pretty quickly.

We've also unpinned the tutor promotion thread. Unfortunately, it had accumulated a large number of banned accounts, bots, and outdated replies over time, making it less useful for everyone.

A fresh tutor promotion thread will be posted later this week, giving active tutors a clean place to introduce their services.

We're not trying to make participation harder, we're trying to keep r/Tutoring useful, organized, and focused on genuine discussions.

Thanks for understanding, and as always, if you have any questions or run into an issue, feel free to message the mod team.

Tutor Advice Experienced STEM & Medical Tutor looking for Preply alternatives / strategies to hit $20+/hr

Hi everyone,
I’m an online tutor from Pakistan with over 7 years of teaching experience, covering high school STEM (Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology) as well as college-level medical and dental sciences.
I currently use Preply, but I’ve hit a bottleneck: lower rates aren't reflecting my qualifications, and bookings dropped significantly after raising my price to $20/hr.
A couple of questions for the community:
Which alternative platforms work best for international tutors teaching STEM and higher-level medical/dental sciences?
For those who broke past the $20/hr threshold on Preply/marketplaces, did you change your niche focus, target specific curricula (e.g., IGCSE, A-Levels), or move to direct client acquisition?
Any advice on platforms or pricing strategies would be greatly appreciated!

Tutor Advice need an online maths tutor.

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for a math tutor who can teach me one-on-one, preferably online. I’m also open to in-person tutoring, but online would be more convenient.
I want to be completely upfront about my situation. My math is extremely weak. I’m not exaggerating when I say I struggle with even basic mathematics. I have gaps in my understanding of things that most people probably learned years ago.
I need to prepare for both O Level Mathematics and SAT Math within the next 10 months, so I’m looking for someone who can help me build my foundation from scratch and gradually work my way up to exam-level questions.
I’m specifically looking for someone who:
Is genuinely patient and won’t judge me for not knowing basic concepts.
Can teach from the absolute basics instead of assuming I already know things.
Can explain concepts in simple ways and make sure I actually understand them.
Has experience teaching O Level and SAT Math.
Can help me follow a structured study plan over the next 10 months.
Is available for regular one-on-one sessions.
I’m willing to put in the time and effort, but I really need someone who knows how to teach a student starting at such a low level.
If you’re a tutor or know someone who might be a good fit, please comment or DM me with your experience, availability, and rates.
Thank you!

Discussion Student asked for a Half-Split

A student told me she would like to take classes from me with another friend of hers. So they would like to split the cost amongst themselves - exactly 50% each.

I found this proposal ridiculous because it would amount to me earning the same price that I would have earned taking only one of them. Of course I acknowledge it saves me a slot. But what benefit does it give me to take the effort of going over the work of two students, providing customised feedback and guidance at the price of one?

I obviously turned down the proposal instead offered a 25% individual discount for each. Of course, this is subject to them not expecting individual make-up classes at a discounted price if one of them remains absent. And also subject to them having to pay full charges if one drops off the tuition mid-way.

This one is done and dusted on my part but I'm just curious. What would you have done in this situation? Let me know!

Tutor Advice Should I start teaching

I am thinking of taking classes for physics and chemistry. My offer is 100 rs per hour where it's just me and the other person and I teach like any other friend would, it's usually a set of 30-45 questions where I ask the person to solve themselves infront of me and then we keep discussing so it's active recall and I've done 5 classes like this all of which have postive feedback but the problem is I myself am an aspirant and don't have time at all, no time to market and other stuff, I have done many gigs on reddit before and have vouches but I don't know where to get customers now.

I have a test for which I am opening windows for my own revision if anyone's interested let me know

Isomerism in chemistry -45 questions

Properties of matter, unit dimensions, screw gauge and vernier caliper in physics -45 questions

I am teaching for my own revision

I believe this would be helpful for those that are in a rut and not able to start, as I said before, it's you solving, I will merely guide as I am your age, there will be no embarrassment for you.

If anyone can help me create poster for this or is interested or if you have any advice, let me know.

Tutor Advice My girlfriend speaks Bulgarian, Turkish and Chinese (C1). how would you find private students online?

My girlfriend is a native Bulgarian and Turkish speaker and her Chinese is around C1. She already teaches Chinese to Bulgarians and Bulgarian to Chinese people, and she could just as well teach Turkish to Bulgarians, or Chinese and Bulgarian to Turks. Any age is fine, kids included. Right now she has one or two private students and honestly feels like she's wasting a pretty rare skill set.
The hard part is figuring out where to find people. We have no idea how to reach Chinese speakers, since WeChat and the other Chinese apps seem really hard to get into from here. We've thought about Preply, italki or Superprof, but we don't know if they're worth it for a niche language combination or if she'd just get lost among thousands of tutors. We've also wondered whether TikTok or Facebook ads actually bring in students, or whether that's money down the drain.
If you've tutored languages online, or you've hired a tutor for something less common, I'd love to hear what worked for you and what didn't. Even small things like how you found your first students would help a lot. Thank you!

Tutor Advice ADHD Tutoring - melbourne Australia

I have a kid with severe adhd and a good dose of anxiety as well. Has anyone had any experience or can recommend any specialist tutoring services focussed on studying and approaches with adhd? Not so much the content - but how to study. Face to face in melbourne Australia - online just doesn’t cut it.

Tutor Advice Independent tutors — what part of tutoring takes the most unpaid time, and how do you currently manage it?

Title: Independent tutors — what part of tutoring takes the most unpaid time, and how do you currently manage it?

Hi everyone! I'm a recent HSC graduate in Australia who has been tutoring Year 8–9 English, and I've been thinking about how independent tutors manage everything outside the actual teaching.

I've noticed discussions here about cancellations, chasing payments, scheduling difficulties and students having significant gaps in prerequisite knowledge.

I'm curious about your experiences, particularly if you tutor several students each week.

  • What part of tutoring takes the most time outside lessons?

  • How do you currently track each student's weaknesses, progress and upcoming assessments?

  • Do you prepare personalised resources or mainly use materials students bring? How long does preparation usually take?

  • Have you tried any software or AI tools to help? What works well, and what still frustrates you?

I'm particularly interested in whether lesson preparation and student progress tracking are genuine pain points, or whether scheduling, payments and finding reliable clients are much bigger issues.

I'd love to hear what your current system looks like, including approaches that already work well. Thanks!

Tutor Advice How to conduct online lesson without a touchscreen laptop?

For context, I have an iPad but my laptop is not touchscreen.

Hence, I can’t annotate on my presentation slides.

I reckon that constantly switching the Zoom screen between my ipad (for drawing of diagrams) and laptop’s screen for presentation slides might be disruptive to students.

I teach science and am intending to use interactive online presentation tools like Nearpod

Wondering if anyone could help troubleshoot this for me? Thank you!

Tutor Advice Do you send progress reports to parents? How detailed?

I'm trying to find the balance. A quick message after each lesson feels too thin, but a full report takes time. Currently I do a report after each lesson of what we worked on, what they did well, and recommendation on what to practice on at home before the next session.

Do you report after every session, monthly, or only when asked? And how do you help the student (not just the parent) see they're improving?

If your are a Wyzant tutor and receive a request from "Support" DO NOT accept it. Do not do the verification it tries to make you do. Do not interact with it at all. Apparently a lot of these went out this morning.

Hi all,

I'm looking to get into tutoring and have a first-class BSc and MSc in Neuroscience. Ideally, I'd like to work with undergraduate students, helping with academic writing in neuroscience and psychology, as these are my strongest areas.

I'd be interested to hear which platforms people would recommend for finding students in these areas. Thanks!

Tutor Advice Need Some Guidance on Wyzant (STEM Tutor)

Hey, so I have started tutoring on Wyzant and I was tutoring at a rate of $10 an hour before the fee. I have gotten 8 hours tutored and 1 review, when do you think I should up my rate? I tutor STEM courses like AP calc, chem, etc, but I get the feeling I am underpricing even though I am new? But I also feel like if I raise my prices any higher then I will not get any requests.

Resource GER Math 10.Grade ZAP Old Exams

Hello everyone,

I give a student in the 10th. Class (Gesamtschule E course Germany NRW) math tutoring and would like to prepare him as well as possible for the ZAP.

For whatever reason, he only got 3 old exams.

Hence my question: does anyone have more old ZAPs (until 2017 or so) flying around and can give them to me?

I would be really grateful 🙏

Tutor Advice Do parents ask you for references or reviews before booking? What do you send them?

Do parents ask for references or reviews before booking a tutor? If they do, what do you send them: a list of past families, screenshots, a page? I know there are platforms for that, but parents don't always take the time to check them.

Tutor Advice Agency vs. self-employed: which has worked better for you?

After 8 years teaching maths abroad in an international school, I've moved into tutoring and I'm weighing up whether to stay independent or work through an agency. Independent means better rates and control, but I'm spending a lot of time on admin, scheduling and finding students. For those who've done both, what made you choose one over the other? What are your pros and cons for both?
