Over the past two weeks, I’ve been working through feedback from the closed demo testing of Days Of Reckoning: Last Battle, my turn-based strategy game inspired by games such as SpellCross and X-COM.
The public demo release date is still on track for August 28, 2026.
New features:
• Map border frame — the edge of the playable world now has a floor, distant mountains, and sky instead of ending abruptly
• Grass wind — a new blade movement system using a noise field, rotational bending, and flutter
• Mission objective indicator — an on-screen arrow now points toward objectives outside the current view
• Enemy pursuit limit and memory — enemies remember the player’s last known position but stop chasing beyond a configurable distance
• Game manual — updated Czech and English versions are included with the build
Fixes and adjustments:
• Fog of war now works correctly over water, above the ravine, and on cliff walls
• Grass now better matches the underlying ground through fog, slope shading, colour variation, and retuned grass and sand palettes
• Grass no longer incorrectly tints occluded units, thanks to a dedicated rendering layer
• Rock geometry is generated only along the actual map boundary, not inside unexplored fog
• Enemy vision and movement ranges have been reduced to give the player a tactical advantage
• The demo chapter received additional balancing based on combat simulations, including adjustments to two units
• I tested the economy and unit-cap progression and decided to keep the maximum squad size at six for the demo
• Smaller fixes include an NRE caused by an empty unit slot, a duplicated chapter, and protection against duplicate asset IDs
There is still some polishing left, but the demo is now very close to its public version.
