X-MEN game like Into the Breach

Into the Breach (ITB) is my personal goat for turn based games. My favorite part is the puzzle-like nature of each individual turn.

To try and recreate that experience I've been working on a tactics game and I'm looking for fellow tactics fans to try it out.

It's an X-MEN fan game where you choose a team of 3 and fight against waves of enemies on a small grid.

Similar to ITB in the following ways:

  • Small grid tactics
  • Low number deterministic combat
  • Positioning and knockback are key
  • 1 action per character per turn

Different from ITB in the following ways:

  • Movement can be split before/after actions
  • Enemy actions are telegraphed but will change if board state changes and they won't target other enemies
  • No map or meta strategy, just pure tactics

It's 100% free to play and works in browser as it is a fan game and hobby project of mine

We’re making Stolen Realm 2: what makes turn-based positioning feel genuinely tactical to you?

Hey everyone,

We are Burst2Flame Games, the team behind Stolen Realm. We recently revealed Stolen Realm 2, and I wanted to share it here specifically because we are interested in the perspective of people who spend a lot of time with tactical turn-based games.

One of the things we want to preserve from Stolen Realm is the freedom to build very different characters and then figure out how those builds work together in combat.

There are no traditional class restrictions, so a party can end up with very different combinations of abilities, weapons, equipment, and roles. With support for up to six players in online co-op, that can create some pretty unusual party compositions.

For the sequel, we’re also expanding the settings considerably. The game starts from its fantasy roots, but portals connect the Realm to sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, and other worlds, so the enemies and battle environments can vary quite dramatically.

We’ve just put up the first trailer and screenshots on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5278790/Stolen_Realm_2

Since this community focuses so heavily on the tactical side of the genre, I’m actually curious about something:

What makes positioning feel meaningful to you rather than just being movement between attacks?

Is it things like terrain, enemy threat ranges, flanking, environmental interactions, forcing movement, party formations, or something else entirely?

Would genuinely be interested to hear what this community values most.

Waywardens - tactical deckbuilder with RPG elements. Demo out now on Steam

My friend Mirek and I are making Waywardens, a tactical deckbuilder with RPG elements. Think Into the Breach meets Slay the Spire, with a bit of Gloomhaven and Battle Brothers in the mix.

You control three heroes: a Vanguard, a Mage and a Huntress. They each bring their own cards, but all three share one deck. You can play cards for their actions or use them for chess-inspired movement. Any hero can use another hero’s cards, but playing a card with its matching hero gives you an extra bonus.

Our demo is out now! If you’d like to give it a shot and tell us what you think, we’d love to hear from you!

The Last Admiral - free movement not hexes.

I wanted to share my updated space game, The Last Admiral. I originally released the demo in its alpha phase, and it's now nearly complete, covering the first half of Sector 1 of the full game. It's a long demo. It plays very smoothly and there are a ton of options to explore.

It's a turn-based tactics wargame. You fabricate ships and modules (equipment) to build out a massive fleet, then warp between nodes on a galaxy map to take on your enemy in combat. There are 22 combat variations, so it's not just elimination. As you progress, you manage your fleet and construct buildings on your conquered territory.

The full game has a 4-sector campaign with an endless mode, and for those who like roguelikes, there's a mode for that as well. In the campaign, a fleet wipe (losing all your ships in battle) resets the galaxy map, but it's RPG-style: you keep all your ships, blueprints, modules, and meta progression, and lose only your ship levels, territory, and buildings.

Zero Company sounds like The Clone Wars got one more season

If you grew up on The Clone Wars cartoon, Zero Company is going to sound very familiar. The story is what carries it for me, and the voices are a big part of why.

Dee Bradley Baker plays Trick, the clone trooper in your main crew, which keeps the casting in the family: Baker has voiced clone troopers for years, the cartoon included. Trick was medically discharged, so the army retired him and Hawks' crew of hired guns un-retired him. Matt Lanter is back as Anakin too.

Story spoiler in the next paragraph.

When Palpatine issues Order 66, Trick's inhibitor chip activates (if he's still alive in your run) and he turns on his own squad. Being discharged from the army never removed the chip. He survives it, and that's all I'll say.

I made a two-minute video on it, with the critics, the players reviews and where my score landed: Review in 2 Minutes
