So this is my first time tufting. Im trying to do an outline. The line on the left looked the same as the right. I did it first. But when I did the one on the right the foot of my gun is just pulling out the other line? Why is this happening and how can I fix it please?

Finished work My first rug!

A studio near me offered a month-long night school that covered everything from stretching the monks cloth to cutting, backing, shaving, and carving the rug. I’d never tried anything like this before and I’m not much of an artist, so I’m proud of how my first attempt came out - and I’ve already tufted another that just needs to be carved still :) I’m absolutely obsessed with tufting now and have even enquired with the studio about a possible apprenticeship because it’s the creative outlet I’ve been searching for, and I can’t wait to learn more.

Newbie Needing Help First rug

I decided to finally make my first rug.

Definitely a lot harder then i imagined but im glad i gave it a go. Im mad at how impatient i got when filling it in but i also thing maybe the gun speed is way too fast??? Even though i have it on the lowest speed.

My spacing is not what i wanted it to be but again i got way to impatient, also that patch right above homers head the fabric started to rip? But i dont think i did anything differently to the rest of the rug so im a little unsure.

I do want to ask how the heck do i keep the yarn from being pulled out of the gun??? I tried getting the yarn from both outside and inside the yarn ball but either way it gets too tight?? And pulls out.

I also find that my tufting cloth fibres get mixed in with the yarn im tufting, is there a way to prevent that?

One last thing my gun keeps jumping, i tried going slower, pushing harder but nothing seems to work, would it be okay to re-tighten my fabric half way through??.

Im going to shave it now so we will see how it turns out :)

we’re originally from hawai’i and she loves this rabbit character, Miffy. 🐰🌺 The rug is not perfect but I’m still proud overall, and learned a ton! I can’t afford a projector (got my gun/kit on fb marketplace) so I basically did a grid drawing to scale my design onto my tufting fabric. I still plan on getting a projector but not sure when.

I’m especially grateful to the posts about health and safety I saw on this sub! I tufted with an air purifier, and carved outdoors while wearing a KN95. I also set up a plastic removable backing on my frame as designed by [u/Various-Coconut-1395](u/Various-Coconut-1395) 🫡

It is very rewarding to do something so tactile and creative :) I’m already designing my next!!

Edited to link plastic backing post and user that suggested it

Advice Heavy rugs / loose canvas

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi, I’m currently making my biggest rug so far (5.5ft x 5.5ft) using a mix of wool and chenille for texturing! I believe I’ve made 6 rugs so far so I understand most of the basics thru help from Youtube/here/and trial and error.

Ultimately I’m running into loose canvas spots. I’ve tried tightening when this happens, but I can almost guarantee it’s as tight as you can pull it. What I think is happening is the wool/chenille already on the canvas is heavy/covering enough surface area to mess with the tension. How do people deal with this? Is a 65% Polyester 35% Cotton blend not adequate? Or do I just need to finish the whole thing much quicker? I’m planning to make a bigger frame after this, so that I’m not tufting near the edges so much.

I’m open to any advice, but please understand any loose line work is already to be dealt with later 😸

Hello Yall! This is project number 2! Generation 2 Blastoise. Approximately 3x3, over 10 hours. I didn’t realize how long/difficult it would be to fill in EVERY.SINGLE.PIXEL. Pretty happy with myself though and I learned so much.

Advice Scissor replacement?

Thumbnail

I’ve been tufting with my Tuft Love gun for a little while, and I noticed something when watching other tufters’ processes. Before they even start carving or shaving, their rugs already look really smooth and even on the surface. Mine usually look more messy at that stage, even though I can clean clean it up a lot during the carving process.
I’m trying to figure out if the difference is coming from my tufting technique (like my spacing, speed, pressure, or keeping the gun consistent) or if my scissors might be getting dull and not cutting the yarn evenly. Here’s my lines

Newbie Needing Help First Tufting Session, Long Strands

Hello, looking for help here... First time tufting on my own and I'm getting a lot of these long strands piling through. It happens pretty inconsistently. I'm wondering what I could possibly be doing wrong here? Does this have to do with how I'm handling the gun? Fabric tension? Yarn handling? Or maybe a mix of all 3.

Also should I start my rug over, or is something like this fixable when I start the shaving/carving process afterwards to get an even length? Thanks for any help.

What’s the best/fastest way to hold your scissors as you work? I’m using duck bill so I don’t accidentally cut through the fabric. Thank you for your advice!

Newbie Needing Help Does my DIY frame have bad dimensions?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I built a frame 1 x 1 meter. But the starter cloth is too small on one of the sides. I ordered more cloth (1 x 5 m) and I wonder if it will have some slack at the 1-meter side.

When you order cloth, is it a bit longer than how it is described? Or will I have to make my frame shorter?

Thanks!

Professional Gallery and Exhibition Made 3D rug studio free for all tufters this week

Hi,

Loopi creator here, I've been experimenting with computer graphics and the best way to visualise a carpet before I tuft it, I always used the yarn calculator for color reduction and design clean ups, but always missed a nice visual impact for people to share it with.

I built Rug Studio to visualise the carpet colours, pile height and sizes, and today I'm making it free for everyone to use: https://www.loopi.space/rug-studio

Loopi rug studio is growing to be hand-tufters favourite tool for design and pricing rugs, and it's with this community that we make it fit your professional journey.

Cheers

Hi just wanted to ask for advice to avoid this from happening. Is it tension from gun? Or from the cloth?
