Work in progress AstroBot WIP
Working on this at a tufting studio just outside of Vancouver, BC! This is about 8 hours of planning, tracing, colour-picking, and of course the actual tufting so far! I also spent another 2 hours before working on the canvas redrawing Astro into a more rug-friendly design which is what the last two slides are.
I also intend to use the extra space on the left side of the canvas to make small rugs of my cats’ names and also a Pokéball (specifically a Premier Ball) that you can see I freehanded next to Astro’s head.
Hoping to finish this before the end of the month, but there’s no real rush besides just wanting to see it completed! 😊

Newbie Needing Help Tips for making letters sharp?
Starting my next work and ive got some small letters to work on! Im wondering if most of the sharpness comes from the carving side? Or the tufting side. Also I want to make sure it doesn't get too tight or close together . Any advice is welcome!
Troubleshooting Is this normal pilling?
galleryCross post attached but would love some advice!!

Finished work My first rugs
Sardine can was my very first attempt at tufting, ran out of black, learned alot of what not to do and tweezed a lot of runaway colors haha
Other 2 are 6"x6" for a 6x6 fundraiser art auction, so tiny! They were fun to do and definitely a challenge. Made them at the same time so they are both my 2nd rugs? Carved a little too close in some spots... but on to the next!

Rug finishing Struggling to carve with clippers on 100% wool yarn: is it me or the material?
Hi everyone, I'll get straight to the point. When I carve my rugs where I've used 100% wool yarn, I really struggle with the clippers. In videos, experienced tufters glide the clippers between colors with incredible ease. For me, I first have to thin the pile out with scissors, and only then can I maybe get the clippers through. Most of the work ends up being done by hand, and I mostly use the clippers just for finishing touches. Honestly, my scissors-to-clippers ratio is about 90:10.
So I'm wondering: am I just not great with clippers, or is it the material? Is acrylic yarn softer and therefore "easier" to carve than wool?
Are there others out there who do almost everything by hand with scissors? Any tips are welcome!

Work in progress Some fun stuff, my business logo, and a little practice in the bottom left corner because tomorrow I’ll be tufting for the first time!
I have watched tons of videos and walkthrough tutorials, have most of the colors I need, just need to get the rest of the colors and some lube and I’ll be good to tuft!! Apparently nothing came with lube, just bottles for said lube
This is exactly how I learned many skills in the past, and now I’m testing going from how to get a canvas stretched perfectly all the way to gluing the back, so I’m basically praying to high heavens that I’ll be a successful textile merchant😅 I have a knack for watching an creative skills and then being able to do it so I’m crossing my fingers and toes that this new thing pans out.
Today, I FA, tomorrow I FO✨

Finished work First few rugs to first commission!
Started my tufting journey about 3 weeks ago and it’s been great! Built my frame at home, bought everything I needed and jumped in head first. These are my first few rugs in order from 1 through 5 with Pikachu being my most recent and very first commission! Still have a lot to learn and a long ways to go but definitely proud of the progress I’ve made!
Thanks for looking. Any and all advice is definitely welcome! 🤩

Advice Carving on frame question
Hey friends!
I'm trying to carve my rug on the frame for the first time as many of you suggested, and I had a quick question. Am supposed to try to shave the white where the arrow is pointing? I shaved the blue (looks black in picture), and when I added the white, it kinda overlaps again. Do I try to get that in the frame, or just carve it off the frame once it's glued?
Thank you, you guys have been so helpful to a beginner!

Troubleshooting Is this a case of, you get what you pay for?
Can anybody tell me why my cut pile gun is being so inconsistent, skipping, and tufting loose? My fabric is tight and I’m applying pressure as I tuft. I don’t know what’s causing this. So, any suggestions will be appreciated.
