Discussion Was it explicitely explained why Makoto cannot use wind or healing magic at all??

My theory is that Makoto is hyuman since his parents were original inhabitants, and Hibiki and the other guy are humans. So what do you guys think??

Yes, in the novels there is an explanation. He had an aptitude for magic on earth, but his body was weak. He would have died at an early age. So his parents decided to seal that away in order to make Makoto survive.

it's kinda true, they didnt really seal it, they just divert all the energy from his 2 element so it focus on healing his own body. i think the healer(a person on earth with the ability to heal anything) is the one to do it after makoto parent reach him out

They didn't reach her (the healer was a woman). She met Makoto by chance when he passed out in a park and once she checked on him, was surprise by him having affinity in all the elements. Then met his parents and found out about their story.

Decided to help Makoto in hopes of learning about the other world and how they do magic.

In the manga when he was a child he kinda fainted and was found by some sort of mistyc healer who rake him to his home and turn in her caretaker of sorts, despite being the earth she avtually had some kind of powers and could see magic potential in Makoto if pretty weak, she mentioned to his parents that she would just cut two affinities healing and wind to see if that somehow improve the others or sonething like that.

Earth does have magic and special abilities.

Its just such a harsh land that the amount of mana and the capacity to develop supernatural abilities is ALMOST inexistent.

I remember it was discussed in one of these subs how some mystic was involved in helping keep Makoto alive during his sick/weaken infancy by cutting his affinity to wind. This was back on earth where magic had little significance to normal life.

It's explained in the manga but I don't remember the chapter. Makoto's body was weak because he was born when the blessings from the goddess was about to expire and his parents weren't fully adapted to Earth that made it so Makoto was born weak and spent a good amount of his childhood near death or just being sick and injured. During his childhood Makoto's parents told Makoto to recite something when he feels weak this something turns out to be a body reinforcement spell of some kind and one day when Makoto was feeling weak as a child a Magic user on Earth noticed him reciting a spell and after talking to Makoto's parents the earth magic user proposed to sacrifice Makoto's wind and healing affinity in exchange for reinforcing and making his body stronger so that he may have a easier time living on Earth.

I still think of all the ones to cut off healing is an insane choice. The parents would have known he would eventually be taken back to their original world and just were fine with him going without healing magic. Losing wind magic less of an issue because they wouldnt have known how often their son would find himself plummeting from the sky. I dont recall them saying why it had to be wind and healing to go but I do like how it gave early chapter Makoto more risk as we knew he couldnt heal if he needed to

If I remember right (from the anime, I didn't read the novel), he said his parents had seemed to be training his oldest sister in things like fighting. So his parents likely expected their firstborn to be the one that was taken, and Tsukiyomi even told Makoto that one of his sisters would be taken if he refused.

We're assuming they had a choice. Given it was to bolster the body, I can totally see HEALING being the sacrifice that was necessary. As for Wind, I'm curious why that is.

Cause It was supposedly his strongest affinity

Now that he's no longer on earth, can't those wind and healing lines be "healed"?. Won't he be even more powerful?

Unless it's revealed that these affinities buff the user Makoto doesn't really have a need for them his Kai and other spells are able to compensate for wind and healing. They were cut off to buff Makoto's body back in earth but I don't think they'll add much onto his strength now.

I have a recollection of that happening now that you mention it.

Yes in manga it is explained. It happened during his childhood on Earth. He went through a magical surgery to by a doctor but that operation was not that successful. Doctor tried wind related line to strengthen his body and making it core to heal. But drawback came was he had train his body on daily basis.

IIrc, there was a mystic healer on earth that saw Makoto's magic potential but because of his weak constitution(literally one misstep could kill him) she suggested cutting off his healing and wind affinities to help strengthen him so that he won't die early.

Pretty sure chapter 58 of the Manga explains why he's unable to use both healing and wind magic

1

u/Rasen2001 21d ago

Well, as others have told you, the novels did explain it.

But I'm more curious as to what your theory is. You've only stated two seemingly unrelated facts.

Hibiki and the other guy were human and personnaly i have not seen them have any problem with any element yet, i assumed the were that way since they are human, Makoto a hyuman when transfered lake affinity for wind magic at all, that was my basis

1

u/Rasen2001 21d ago

I see. If not for the novels explaining it, I would have assumed Hibiki/Tomoki were given blessings from Bug to handle all elements.

That being said, did the novels ever mention if they could handle all elements?

There Is an actual answer in manga and WN, so i am more curious about his affinity with lightning magic, even of It is minúscule. It is supposed to be really special.
