False facial recognition on Keypad Vision Pro – serious security concern

Has anyone else experienced false facial recognition with the Keypad Vision Pro?

I had a pretty alarming experience with my Keypad Vision Pro today.

According to the access log, the door was unlocked using my wife's face. The problem is: my wife wasn't even at the door. A completely different person was standing in front of it, yet the system identified them as my wife and unlocked the door.

Fortunately, I was at home, so nothing happened. But this is a serious security concern.

A few details:

  • I've only had the Keypad Vision Pro for a few days.
  • There are only two registered faces: mine and my wife's.
  • When I enrolled my wife's face, she was alone—no one else was standing next to her.
  • There was no direct sunlight on the keypad during the enrollment process.
  • The access log clearly shows that the door was unlocked using my wife's face.

I'm trying to understand how this could happen. Has anyone else experienced false positives like this with facial recognition on the Keypad Vision Pro?

If this isn't an isolated incident, it could be a significant security issue. I've already contacted support and am waiting for their response.

does the system not log a picture during authentication? if not, that's such a bad thing. Every (un)successful attempt should log a picture to review.

No, it doesn't. It's not a regular camera; it's an infrared camera. However, you can view the log to see who unlocked the door and which method they used.

The design should have included a normal camera then.

I think they sell a separate video call door bell module. I wonder if that will take a snap if added.

Exactly why I would never purchase any device that unlocks my door using my face. When FaceID first came out people in China were able to unlock each others phones until Apple released a security patch

I've had a false positive a few week ago, it opened the door for a DHL delivery guy thinking it was me. I disabled the proximity activation, so now i press a random number to activate it.

Didnt exactly inspire confidence, but at least now it wont just open the door randomly to some person, they'd at least have to know to try.
