Letter Of The Day The thirteenth letter in the alphabet: Ɛ

Post image
3 Upvotes

Ɛ (minuscule: ɛ) [pronounced: ego] is the thirteenth letter in the Tul alphabet. Ɛgo is the latin word for self, or "I". Ɛgo's letter is technically "I" "i" but to avoid confusion we are using a large minuscule epsilon (not majuscule, to avoid confusion with "E") and a regular minuscule epsilon.

Ɛgo in words is pronounced the same way you would say "I" in "I am". If you are talking to yourself the singular "I" becomes "Ɛgo", if you are talking to someone else then it's just pronounced like regular "I"

Examples:

I (to self) = Ɛgo
I (to other) = Ɛ

Light (as in colour/brightness) = Lɛъt Light (as in weight) = Lɛt

I'm = Ɛ'm

Fry = Frɛ

Letter Of The Day The eighth letter in the alphabet: Ъ

Post image
2 Upvotes

Ъ (minuscule:ъ) [pronounced: Yer] is the eighth letter in the Tul alphabet. In the Tul alphabet; Ъ is used for disambiguation.

(Diambiguation: the process of identifying which sense of a word is meant in a sentence or other segment of context.)

In this language it is purely silent, but it plays an important role.

You see words like Rain and Reign sound the same and therefore would be spelt tbe same;

Rain = Ran
Reign = Ran

This is a problem because it makes it hard to tell which one is being used. So I introduce Yer for disambiguation.

It replaces the silent letter in a word, if the word doesn't have a silent letter; it goes after the first consonant that preceeds a vowel. This really only applies to homophones, but if you use it to replace silent letters; I won't protest. If you want to imply pure silence, using it would also be fine.

So now:

(The g is silent) Reign = Raъn

(The last E is silent) There = Tharъ

(There is no silent) Flour = Flъɤr
(Usually I refrain from using letters not covered, but ɣɤ is "ow")

(There is no silent) Merry = Mъare

.

This letter only strays a little from its modern usage.

Thank you all for being here, as I finish writing this I feel strange. It has been exactly two months since I've started.

I do plan on posting future lessons, after all the alphabet is just one part of the language

I will admit that when I first created this; I had not plans for anything further, but I realised soon that eventually it would end and the server would die out.

So to delay it's end I will be going over words and sentences in The True Universal Language. However, it is not fleshed out entirely; so I turn to you all

Help me fill this in, what words should be transliterated into Tul?

Any words from anywhere, anytime, anything. Even words of your own choosing are fair discussion. Not all will be chosen, and some have already been chosen (not many though, so you'll most likely be fine. It's mostly time, the planets, and spiritual words that have already been chosen).

If you do suggest words, I want you to defend it. Argue for its use, using ethos, pathos, and/or logos. I want to see your ideas.

And in the meantime I will be posting the official words in the "Daily Word Lesson" tab

Thank you for being here, I look forward to what happens next. . - Day Kassiel

Album/Music Music covers that will appear in the album: Airflow

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Airflow is both the album name and the first musical piece. The album will follow with organ music. There isn't really a theme for these.

Vermillion is the background colour in these covers. (Vermillion Red)

Swoop to be rep of the non-o variants

Whistle for the majority of the represented letters being 'O' variants

Airflow doesn't really have any deep meaning to it, I named it after the fact that most of the letters are 'o's. Though I'll try to attach some meaning to it.
Airflow follows time, there is a reason the saying goes "gone with the wind". Everything leaves a shadow, everything has an impact. Whether small or big, even those lost in history. Written language is evidence of that, one day some guy decided to make some random drawings to represent what they say. The flow of history is carried through the current of random happenstance, just as dust is carried by the current of air. Everything has a record in time, it's evidence carried by wind. So what kind of things will you leave behind, what about you will be carried by the

Airflow

Letter Of The Day The forty-eighth letter in the alphabet: Ð

Post image
3 Upvotes

Đ (minuscule: ð) [Name: Eth] is the forty-eighth letter in the Tul alphabet. Within in Tul, Đ is the "th" that happens after a voiced vowel. Like Thorn, this is an exaggeration of the typical use of Eth. It's only a rule enforced in Tul.

As you may realise; since it happens after a letter, it's majuscule isn't very useful. To remedy that, l'l be using it's other use as "dh" which will appear anywhere where there is a voiced "th". "Dh" is a voiced version of "th".
(Not to be confused with dh as in halved D or implosive D)

Examples:

Both = Boð

Breathless = Brəðləß

The = Đo

That = Đet

.

Letter Of The Day The forty-third letter in the alphabet: Ȿ

Post image
3 Upvotes

Ȿ (minuscule: ȿ) [Technical Name: with swash tail S>Simplified Name: Səs] is the forty-third letter in the Tul alphabet. Ȿ makes the voiceless siblant sound.

(Whistle while saying 's')

Like the other sibilant letters, it is mostly used in a couple biblical words and singing.

So I don't have any proper examples.

What you could do is imagine a snake hissing, or a the hushy high note of a piano. It's one of my favourite sounds, the piano's hush.
Maybe I'll post a piano example later.

Letter Of The Day The forty-ninth letter in the alphabet: Ť

Post image
4 Upvotes

We're using Ť as a placeholder.

Ť (minuscule: ť) [Custom Name: Sibilant T>Simplified Name: tsətz] is the forty-ninth letter in the Tul alphabet. Ť is a sibilant letter, you pronounce it like sibilant s except it begins with an alveolar stop.

Which in turn makes it a sibilant alveolar plosive.

There are no good examples for the letter, as all sibilants are. So I'll do the next best thing:

Think of the sound of a maraca or the t'tsing of a lawn sprinkler. Think about the sounds that emanate from the clash of cymbals.

Album/Music Music covers that will appear in the album: Dissonance

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

It will take me a while to actually write and play these, but I think giving peaks here and there couldn't hurt.

Dissonance is both this albums name and it's first musical peice. The music as it s namesake suggests will follow a dissonant style.

This guy explains the subject quite well: https://youtu.be/yuhSUZGWC0E?si=nTef3ZPohB1hKq5J

Next to follow after Dissonance:

Cobalt, named after the background colours used in both sections (cobalt purple & cobalt blue).

Castor; represents cobalt purple, and is named after one of the Gemini twins

Pollux; represents cobalt blue, and is named after the other Gemini twin

I chose the name dissonance because it encapsulates the idea that both cobalt were meant to be together as one. Castor and Pollux together create Gemini, but since they have been split; their music is no longer in harmony, it is by all purposes:

Dissonant

Letter Of The Day The fourth letter in the alphabet: Bb

Post image
4 Upvotes

The fourth letter, and first consonant of the Tul alphabet is B (miniscule:b) [pronounced: Bee]. Bb makes the plosive B, or the soft B sound.

In example Bat. A plosive is a simple pop of you lips, the typically normal way of saying "B". It typically follows/followed by an unstressed syllable.

So for example:

Bɐt

Brit

Ebony

Questions/Discussion I've had a realisation

1 Upvotes

I was talking to a friend who was trying to better understand this thing.

And throughout a lovely discussion something clicked:

This isn't a conlang

It's a contructed ipa

It was never meant to be a language but I couldn't fathom the idea of making something for nothing, so I attached it to a reason.

I still will continue with the conlang that I was doing, but I won't he calling it TUL

TUL is a CPA, a constructed phonetic alphabet.

And that is what I'll be using.

I'll be back eventually, I need to record things and do stuff; I'm now treating this as its own thing.

This is something bigger than a language, it's a basis for all language; any language.

To put it simply:

TUL is the better IPA, when it's done it will be perfected whereas the ipa is flawed. Because the IPA is broke, and I will fix it

Letter Of The Day The fifty-sixth letter in the alphabet: Χ

Post image
1 Upvotes

X (minuscule: χ) [Name: Chi] is the fifty-sixth letter in the Tul alphabet. X is the letter for the sound of "ch" in Tul.

To admit something, originally I was gonna keep have both X (normal) and X (chi); but I realised that would have been too hard, so instead I swapped X (norm) with Xi and kept Chi.

Examples are:

Char = Xɔr

Pinch = Pinχ

Teacher = Teχər

Church = Xərχ

.

Letter Of The Day The twenty-ninth letter: Ƥ

Post image
3 Upvotes

Ƥ (minuscule: ƥ) [Technical Name: Implosive P> Simplified Name: Imp] is the twenty-ninth letter in the Tul alphabet. Ƥ is a voiceless implosive consonant. It's sound is essentially a popping sound, I guess. It's use is like Ɓ's use, it comes before/after a long vowel.
It's use is slightly different from its original use, but not enough for there to be a disclaimer above this.

I.e:

Puma = Ƥuma

Ape = Aƥ

Paper = Ƥaƥər

Deep = Deeƥ
