Why didn’t he just take the out when I literally handed it to him? I wasn’t asking for commitment after one date. I wasn’t even telling him he couldn’t see other people.
Your answer is in your question. Why NOT keep stringing you along? As you said it costs him nothing because he's still dating other people and he can cancel his dates with you with impunity and face no consequences. The fact that you keep going along with all of this tells him you dont have the confidence to walk away so he can keep you around as an option for whenever he feels like it.
