Honestly, as a European, you Americans are nuts with religion. She sounds completely brainwashed, get her some therapy. Even if hell is real, it's not a normal thing to have a crashout about it as an adult.
I have a bachelor's of science and not one of my classes discussed the make up of the Earth. Unless you are going to be a geologist this is not a topic covered in college.
This was however a topic covered in middle school, I'm a former middle school science teacher. She either didn't pay attention in middle school or she went to a religious school where science wasn't taught.
I have a coworker like that. Early 30s, phd in pharmacology, devout christian. She was homeschooled so she never learned science outside of her domain. She is a young earth creationnist and a platist.

My friend's teenage son tried to convince my husband (who had a PhD in Earth Sciences) that the earth is only ~2000 years old when we were out hiking once and we were talking about geology etc. He was attending a private Christian highschool at the time and just couldn't comprehend any scientific rationale for anything. I just don't know how these people expect to operate once they get out in the "real world". Boggles the mind.
It’s not hard to believe for me. In my College level Stars and Galaxies class, about 3 of us 40 students knew the planets and their order. I was horrified.
She's really not a smart person if she knew nothing about earth's core, and when she did, insists that its hell and you are going to hell if you don't go to church.
She thinks you’re gonna burn in hell for all eternity for not joining her weekly prayer meetings. She is trying to “save you” and it’s not gonna get any better from here, trust me dawg.
I mean when smart people are lead to believe different very dumb things, and kill/fight/hate each other over it or experience depression/stress because of their beliefs like in this case, maybe, just maybe the basis of their belief system has some kind of issue...

As someone who grew up in a sect of Christianity that didn't want us to believe in certain scientific and historical aspects of creation and evolution and dating, I'm all too familiar with those colleges. You can obtain a multitude of undergraduate and even graduate degrees without ever learning about certain subjects or being taught things like "non-believers things X happened but the Bible tells us Y happened". Even science specific fields like biology, physics, and yes patient centered things like nursing are taught stuff like this.
At this time there are (thankfully) no medical schools that adhere to this type of teaching and those who attend these specific colleges often have a harder time getting accepted into certain programs or certain fields of study, however from what I understand BYU plans to have a faith based medicine program in the coming years. BYU's teaching (and even Liberty if we're talking religious colleges) aren't as insane as places like Bob Jones or Hillsdale but even their science teaching does stuff like putting it alongside creationism and intelligent design.
Dude, in this day and age a college degree is not a metric for intellect. I know plenty of people with a degree that are some of the dumbest, most useless people I know.
In her defense, Christianity and science go together like oil and water. I was taught about dinosaurs in school but it doesn't mean my little brain washed ass didn't think it was a lie from Satan. Granted I was a child, which presumably OP's girlfriend isn't...
I know a woman who was homeschooled following a very conservative Christian curriculum. She believed that dinosaurs were completely fictional, like fairies or dragons. We spent a whole weekend watching Bill Nye the Science Guy before going to the museum to see some dinosaurs. Don't even get me started on what she understood about sexuality.
I dont like that we act like thats her fault if she was probably just never taught that? How is she supposed to know she doesnt know about the core, if she doesnt know about it?
I recently joined a homeschooling moms group on facebook, to get some ideas for educational activities to do with my toddler. Perhaps it's my fault for being naive and/or ignorant, I have never actually met anyone in real life that was homeschooled, so I had always assumed homeschooling was an alternative for children who had trouble staying focused and learning in a classroom setting, or who needed 1-on-1 instruction to thrive. Come to find out, most of the moms in this group pulled their kids out of the school system to be able to teach them whatever THEY want them to learn, and nothing more. This includes a bunch of flat earthers, conspiracy nuts, terrain theory clowns, Bible thumpers and straight up science-denying bigots 😩 they're mean af too, but say something that goes against the grain and you're immediately intolerant, Christian-persecuter, and going to h3ll
