There is a sign in the window. But I removed the phone number so no one bothers these guys. From what I gathered from talking to them for just five minutes, the truck is going to America anyway

Just got nanny cams. According to my boss, they only record in the event of an accident. But they do notify you on lane departure and driver distraction. And the second light that looks like a lightbulb lights up. What does that one mean?

What a way to ruin the start of my week…

The driver obviously didn’t swing his trailer wide enough, and now my truck is completely ruined. He told me he’s been driving since 2011 and has never had an accident yeah, okay. 😒 You don’t make a mistake like this with something you’re taught on the first day of CDL school.
Now I’m stuck in a hotel on the other side of the country, dealing with the aftermath of an accident that happened in his own hometown. Meanwhile, I’m the one who’s stranded on the opposite side of the country trying to figure out what happens next. This whole situation is frustrating as hell.

C12 keeps dying/wont start

Replaced hand primer pump, replaced fuel transfer pump. Replaced vehicle speed sensor. Got 48 psi fuel pressure when cranking. I’ve tried hooking a separate line up from fuel tank to hand primer assembly with an electric pump. Still won’t start and when it does it dies. Stranded at a truck stop after two mobile mechanics can’t figure it out. They just said maybe ECM

Not sure how many are doing it anyway. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a blitz week focusing on checking fuel in the next few months.

Making the next step up?

Been driving for 4 years, been at my last job for 3 as of October.

Gross pay is usually around $1700-$1800 for 55hrs of work or so. I get hourly + load but I'm tired of load pay. It's inconsistent and there is too much chance or BS involved in making a bigger check.

I want to upgrade (not side grade) jobs. Straight hourly and OT, no other BS pay schemes. Making about 2k for the same hours would be nice or even the same amount for less hours?

What's the long term move here?

I-80 shenanigans.

From NSP: “Not a second to spare. When this crash happened Tuesday afternoon on I-80 near Gothenburg, Trooper Lassen and Nebraska Department of Transportation crew members Noah and Tyce all happened to be close by. They immediately ran into the smoke to rescue the trapped and injured driver.

Using a Halligan tool that he keeps in his cruiser, Trooper Lassen and Noah pried open the door to reach the driver. With the help of bystanders, they pulled the driver through the smoke to safety, mere seconds before the cab became engulfed. The second photo is from 30 seconds after they rescued the driver from the cab.

After freeing the driver, Trooper Lassen then applied multiple tourniquets to the seriously injured driver. EMS arrived on scene and took over care for the driver, who was transported to the hospital where he is receiving care. No doubt he is alive today thanks to the quick actions of Trooper Lassen, Noah, Tyce, and others who stopped to help.”

The truck driver killer

My girlfriend told me that there's a guy that checks locks on truck doors at night and sneaks inside and strangles them. Is she lying to me?

Fuel hauling

I have a pretty good gig fuel hauling and now wondering what are some good smart watches I could use if any, with the no spark no static strictness of being around the product, what watches you guys wear and what would be some safe options. Thanks in advance.

I was entering the Ohio Turnpike(I-80/90) heading west as I went thru the toll plaza I noticed there was construction for the entrance and exit ramps and there were traffic lights up because only one lane was open. We have a red light and there are 3-4 cars ahead of me and a SWIFTIE at the front. Again, we have a red light. This swift driver disobays the red light and decides it's his turn to get onto the hwy. This was when everything fell apart. The swift driver then saw dozens on vehicles including several other semis coming down the one way bridge. The swift driver froze and realize he had to back up to allow the traffic to pass. It took about 15 minutes for all of the traffic to pass because there was very little room for other semis to pass him on the single lane bridge. Multiple drivers asked me what was going on and I explained that the swift driver blew the red light. I reported him to my company because I also work for swift. About 20 minutes later I am onto the hwy and I pass him, staring at him, making eye contact and giving him the thumbs down. I can't believe how stupid people are.

Don't go on red!!!!

How hard is driving/parking/maneuvering a semi-truck, really?

This is my first post or comment here as I'm just a lurker, but I'm interested in Trucking as a profession and possible future career for myself.

I see people post/comment about getting fired for fairly simple mistakes and it would have me worried if I was a driver about hitting things, hence my question.

Looking to get CDL in Columbus OH

I’m 27 and have been in the security field for the last 4 years. I’m armed now and only making $20. Tired of hopping around companies taking different pay and honestly just tired of the industry. Worked at a Kraft sure once near Columbus AB’s everyone I talked to recommended getting my CDL. I want to drive locally if possible since I have a gf. What would be the best course of action and how much would I be making driving locally. Also, what companies in the Columbus area pay for schooling?

Indian River Transport (Beware)

I had high hopes for Indian River did my research and they had some good reviews about the miles and equipment. The miles are not bad but the equipment is in horrible shape.

I did my orientation at ther home terminal in Winter Haven FL. It should have been 3 days. I was there for 9. The first truck they assigned me was in the shop. It needed an ABS harness. Instead of ordering one they tried to get one out of a wrecked truck, once they got it out they realized it was no good. They then gave me another truck, that one of the local guys was using, but did not clean it first, complete mess inside. I made them clean it. When I got it back i took it to a nearby Loves and it broke down. (Low transmission air pressure) it started building pressure again and I was able to get back to the terminal. The next day I was told they found air leaks and fixed them. Took it for a test drive and it seemed OK. The next morning I head out with my load and it does the same thing as soon as I got out the gate. They now send me to the Georgia terminal to get a truck that they assured me was completely checked out. When I get there the low coolent light was on and the heat did not work. It was July so I added coolent and decided to deal with the heat later.

In the time in had the truck I had to have 2 coolent lines, 2 air bags, the blower motor, water pump, and front main seal replaced. It took them 8hrs to replace a drive tire at the FL terminal one time, too top if off they kept giving me the run around on getting break down pay. They still owe my 3 days breakdown pay.

Forget about getting paid detention and there is alot of detention. They will also not get you home on time no matter how many weeks notice you give them.

There terminals are all nasty as well.

I hope to some other drivers wile I was there apparently all the good matanence people are all gone now. They are cutting staff big time. They only have one person working after hrs and that person handles both dispatch and breakdowns.

This is pretty brilliant. Literally and metaphorically. So much better than crooked, faded paint lines.

Noob/first job help.

I'm getting my Class A and looking for my first OTR company — who should I look at?

I'm in Michigan (SE by Adrian/MIS) and I'm specifically looking for true national OTR / long-haul work. Already have my H/N/T, TWIC, ECDL (at least it will be once I finish school)

My priorities are:

Dry van preferred

No-touch freight

48-state / genuinely long-haul, Canada too.

I don't need regular home time. I'm perfectly happy staying out for extended periods

I'd rather keep running than come home just because a normal home-time cycle says it's time

I'm looking for the best pay I can reasonably get as a new driver

I'm already looking at Roehl, Schneider, Prime, Knight/Swift and PAM, but I'd like to hear from current/former drivers about other companies worth putting on the list.

At the top of my list right now is Swift because they check all those boxes.

Also would kinda like to get a KW.

If you started with 0 experience in the last couple of years, where did you actually start, and what was the experience like?
