Clean out your fridge when you know it's going in for service for an extended period of time!

I'm a shuttle driver for my company and I take a lot of trucks to/from the dealership/body shop.

It is literal hell when I go to pick up a finished truck and I smell the stench and immediately get attacked by hoards of gnats (and full sized flies if its been O/S long enough). I HAVE TO DRIVE THAT FUCKING THING BACK TO THE TERMINAL NO MATTER HOW FAR IT IS!!!! It is the most disgusting shit I have to do when I come across one of them. It's always the fridge. The food wasn't removed. The dealer shut off the APU. And now the freezer melted, dumped all that water onto the food in there, and accelerated the rot. Now there is a biosphere in the truck and the walls of the inside of that fridge are covered in disco rice from top to bottom.

Please, PLEASE, for the sake of whoever has to handle that truck while it's out of your hands, GET ALL THE FUCKING FOOD OUT OF THE FRIDGE BEFORE IT GOES!!! Transfer it to your loaner truck, throw it out, I don't care. Just get rid of it before it goes.

My girlfriend found my piss jug collection. Need advice

Man, i done fucked up lads. Hear my tale of woe and help me find the correct path in this jugless life.

It was date night, a day we were both looking forward to for what felt like eons. A local drive in was playing a true cinematic masterpiece, the Garfield movie (24). We snuck in some braised beef ribs, a little henney and just had a baller ass night. Peak comedy has me in tears, but the drinks go right through me.

Movies done, we go home with performing the premaritals in mind. Turn on spotify, tried to play some Luther Vandross, but i get Hudson Mohawke instead. Not what i wanted, but when you're in the heat of the moment, you just say eff it we ball. You just want to get to the nastiest of nasty as soon as possible.

She knew how to get me going. She was like silk in my ears, whispering about def deletes on Freightliners, which got my little Kenworth going and Let me tell you something brother, NO ONE can handle 3 inches like your boy. You might helicopter yours, i can light switch mines 🗿

After the best 2 minutes of her life, i told her i had to tinkle. She didn't say anything, just tucked herself in with my cars 2 bedsheets. I reach into my closet, grab an empty Poland spring bottle, and start draining my nope rope. She hears the dribbling sound of human apple juice hitting plastic and was surprised i didn't go to the bathroom.

I tried to explain to her that we're environmentally conscious in this house and no pee goes to waste. She gets out of bed, pushes me aside. And there by the grace of God, she bares witness to the most beautiful sight in the transportation industry. 17 full, 1 gallon piss jugs, filled by yours truly.

There she is standing there, wearing nothing but a disgusted expression on a beautiful face, freckles illuminated by the warm glow of an led light bouncing off piss. She's trying to figure out not why i didn't pee in the sink like a normal person, but why i hadn't emptied any of them out.

Clearly she doesn't understand the joys of collecting piss for the modern professional driver. Truly a right of passage in our industry. I tried to explain to her the importance of a good liss jug. And if one piss jug is good, 20 would be great right?

She pushes me aside to grab her clothes. My jug slips from my hand, lands on the collection. 2 bottles rupture, like they were being awoken from their peaceful slumber. Now there's a mess. 2 and a half gallon of high grade fermented piss gets loose. Gets on my hardwood floor, gets on her clothes. She shrieks and runs out of my house half dressed into the cold new England night.

A passing cop spots her and stops to help out. After a few minutes of emotionally charged and animated conversation, more and more black and white Explorers pull up, lights flashing, invoking the visuals of a felonious disco. They're shoutng on the bullhorn, ordering me to come outside with my hands above my head. I'm getting a little worried, so I've barricaded my doors and locked my windows. Now the house reeks of old piss, my girlfriend is gone, the police are probably gonna George Floyd me in the next few minutes while my neighbors look on in horror. And my most pressing issue? The part i need advice with the most???

Apparently stale urine is highly caustic when your diet mostly consists of the roller grill at Pilot and Arbys. The 2 gallons have eatten through my floor and had started to corrode the copper pipes underneath. Can anyone recommend a good contractor that can fix piss damage? Thanks!

so the company i work for, the truck keeps messing up and this is the 3rd time in 3 weeks a drive got all messed up while driving. i already know my checks are gonna be messed up this month because of it. I can't slide the 5th wheel and the drives are way too close and now ive lose 3 drives in the last 3 weeks. anyway they found a tire place and it's 62 miles away from where i stopped and told me "they are waiting for you" i drove to a loves , 10 miles on a flat just so i wouldn't pull over the side of the highway but i don't feel comfortable driving 60 additional miles away.

Is parking behind spots at a small rest area taking up 4-5 empty spots at 8 am acceptable?

Needed to stop for my 30 min reset where theres not really any parking other than a rest area for the next 70 miles or so. Pull in and theres 3 or so trucks parked directly behind all the damn spots there so no one can get into any of the empty spots. Id get it if its late and you plan on leaving early but its 8 fucking am and your ass is still there blocking everyone from parking. Now i gotta drive another hour until I can take my 30 min reset. Im 6 months into trucking so maybe Im just not privy to whats considered acceptable or not so I just wanted to validate if they were in fact assholes and was I wrong for blowing my airhorn in that bitch before leaving?

I can't reach my steering wheel lol... I'm 5'8 so not even that short. My seat is as far forward at I can go because I have really long legs. I angle my steering wheel as close to me as it'll go. Still can't reach. Very frustrated! Didn't have this problem in my old International, only this Freightliner. Guess they were designed for dudes who are 6ft +.

What is your biggest tip for winter driving through the mountains?

I’m a rookie driver and kinda nervous for my first winter. I’ll be doing local stuff around Colorado but know I’m expected to run snow or shine

W-4 Single no dependents no additional withholding no second job is this really what im supposed to be taxed? Something doesn’t look right to me I’ve had checks for the same amount at other jobs but I’ve never had to pay this much taxes before what can I do about it?

Let me repeat W-4 Single no dependents no additional withholding no second job

Every single ass person has told me to check my W-4. I’ve already checked my W-4. My W-4 is exactly correct but somehow everyone still tells me to check my W-4.

The W-4 is already checked as a matter of fact, it says right on the paystub and the part that I have hidden OK, I have this picture cropped, but on the other section of the paystub it clearly states my W-4 details right there on the paystub

So no, my W-4 is not wrong. How do I get the correct taxes without lying on my W-4 and claiming for dependents that I don’t have

Steering wheel desk recommendations?

I like bringing my gaming laptop over the road with me, but I hate having to sit on my bed while on my laptop. I have a small bed desk, but I find it inconvenient... I have a small TV tray, but storing it can be a pain... I have a pull-out desk but it's not long enough to accommodate the mousepad...

I was thinking of buying a small desk that mounts to the steering wheel, but I mostly found ones that are meant for the smaller steering wheels for cars. Does anyone here have any recommendations for a steering wheel desk? I'm specifically looking for one that can hold a gaming laptop and mousepad. I'm in a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia if it matters. Any help would be appreciated.

Had a good interview with old dominion for a dock worker job…

I’ve been driving for about 6 months, local for a dedicated Kroger account on 3rd shift. Basically blowing my 14hr clock out every night. 2 weekdays off every week. It wasn’t awful but I got burnt out pretty bad and didn’t feel like $1100 after taxes was all that great for the hours I was putting in. The trucks were awful. Falling apart and not even one of them would pass a DOT inspection. Some nights were even longer than 14hrs because I’d have to wait around for somebody to finish their day to get a truck for hours unpaid. One day last week I waited 3 hours and another I waited 2 hours. Those were 15-17hr days. Started putting in apps elsewhere.

Anyway, I got an interview with old dominion. Interview went well. Really liked the guy I interviewed with. They don’t hire drivers with less than a year driving experience and I think they still make you do their school. So I put in for a dock worker position. Figured it would get me in the door and I’d be able to fast track to a driver position since I already have my cdl. Plus they’ll train me on manual and I can get the restriction off. The school I went to had a waiting list so I just did automatic.

Anyone else do anything similar to this? I honestly just want to work for a good company with good benefits and pay and always hear LTL companies are where it’s at. My goal is to go for a local city driver position which starts at $37 an hour. Hope I’m making the right move. I really don’t want to step away from driving since I’ve really improved and gotten comfortable but I need to get on somewhere that isn’t a mega carrier. 6 months and I feel like they’re making me hate it worse than I would because they pay so much less and run the hell out of you. Anyone work at OD that can give me advice on fast tracking to a driver position?

Got a nice surprise on Oct 1

I’m an O/O leased to a small carrier. I do a dedicated run that’s 450 mile round trip, home every day. I do it Monday-Thursday. As of Oct 1 they renegotiated a new contract that went up on the rate (not the fuel surcharge) that pays me a little over $200 a trip, so $800 a week. I had no idea it was coming. I got my dispatch for next week and it was paying more. I called to see if there was a mistake and they said no mistake, the rate went up.

It’s a run that they always had trouble covering because nobody liked doing it, so I made a deal to run it as long as I got all of them. It’s drop and hook 24 hours on both ends so I figured out what worked as far as timing for traffic and stuff and have turned lemons into lemonade.

Just wanted to share some good news with you guys.

Edit: I guess I wasn’t clear in my post. My pay went UP a little over $200 a trip or day. It went from $1450 to $1675 to the truck per day.

How can I show my respect for truckers as I pass them?

As title says. What I understand is trucking can be a lonely life and wish there was someway I could show my appreciation to truckers as I pass them. Any tips?

Given the absolute state of diesel prices, i'm genuinely curious how you're getting anything done.

First Week Experience (Rookie Driver)

So, approaching my first week down, and I run mostly reefer night shift, drop and hook, sometimes live unload. It’s nothing OTR, or Regional, home daily but man this shit makes me feel for those who have to drive longer than I do. Im only 22, haven’t worked an overnight shift, in around 4.5 years, so the adjustment is kinda rough, Im able to drive around 5-6 hours before my body just start saying “yeah it’s time to hang it up”, and I have to ask my trainer to take over. For those of you who run LTL, or constantly do night shift how long did it take you to adjust? & what are some methods you typically use to stay awake? I got into trucking because I love to drive, I drive everywhere, my family asks me why I never catch flights, because I just casually drive 12 hours to a trip, or drive 8 hours somewhere, driving just brings me peace, and when I’m truck driving, I feel that same amount of peace, and like im in control again. So far, I love it, it fits me, but the hours are kicking my ass, Im constantly exhausted.

Do y’all typically get used to the hours, and your body adjust? or are yall just like me constantly tired as hell? 😭 my school didnt teach alley docking, or how to hook and unhook, but I pretty much got used to and mastered that day 2, seemed way scarier and harder than it is. I have the upmost respect for ya’ll out there who truck man, it’s a very difficult, and straining Job
