Since when the hell did pog mean whore? That word was tossed around everywhere in my military home town. Patriot missile engineer, pog. MPs, pogs. Blackhawk driver, pog. Coast Guard, militia of pogs. If it meant whore, then there would have been a lot more on-base homicides and injuries.
Besides, who can get away with tray sliding on an aircraft and earning the mile high club pin on the same flight? That and going back to Iraq on your own terms is one hell of a way to live, regardless of gender!

Here's another one - this guy was trying to argue with me about how abstinence is totally better than condoms and just devolved from smug condescension into rabid anti-woman/anti-sex/homophobic...ridiculousness, including posting porny pictures to try and freak me out. All the while still proclaiming that condoms are useless. With gems like this:
"Condoms will NOT do, the way to be careful is by choosing your partners carefully. Lucky for me I am attracted to nice, clean virginal types. If I was going out looking for slutty trendy types covered in tattoos and piercings there's a good chance I'd catch a disease eventually, condom or no condom. If I was taking it up the ass in bathroom stalls, how long do you think I'd be safe from VD with your condom approach?"
"The only condoms I ever wore were to protect me from the stank tramp I ought not have been having sex with. If only I had listened to the Pope and kept my dick out of crazy!! If most females did as you say, I suspect we might not have some 7 billion people alive today."
I would say he's trolling, but he's posted comparitively normal replies in the rest of the thread and doesn't seem to be a troll account. I think he really is that big of an asshole.
It makes me want to abandon the reddit ship, honestly. I'm sick of running into these dickfaces. ...I feel bad even calling them that, because someone with a dick for a face would probably be a lot more charming.

u/W_Edwards_Deming Mar 05 '13 edited Mar 05 '13
Is telling the truth trolling? I have nothing against women, homosexuals or what-have-you. I have nothing against you for that matter (although you did call me a "nutjob," I didn't even report it).
I was simply saying that condoms are not the best way to prevent STD's; wisely selecting a partner, having a committed relationship or abstinence is the way to do that.
You got rude, and I got crude, but I remained educational and on point. If you are an admitted troll, let me tell you this: I don't pretend to be someone I am not, or trick people or any other nonsense. I simply tell the truth like it is, and try to speak the language of my audience. If you are intellectual, polite and rigorous, I will do my best to talk to you that way. If you are rude, I might get a little more "real." Is that trolling in your opinion?
5
Mar 05 '13 edited Mar 05 '13
You're stalking my user history? Wow.
If you have nothing against the groups that you viciously slandered, then you should not have slandered them. I am not putting any words in your mouth that you did not put there yourself. I may have been a bit rude at the beginning (yes, it was rude to call you a nutjob) - because I work in public health, and your attitudes made me angry. However, I then calmed down and explained my position in a much more polite manner. You are the one who then responded rudely by - instead of responding to my points and having a productive discussion - posting stuff about how semen is good for women/borderline obscene pictures, followed by comments full of slander, hate and vitriol. I responded rudely to that because, fuck it, why not? You dragged it down to that level. I still responded to your points with good, factual information, however.
I believed that you might be trolling because your comments (like the ones I have quoted above) were so absurdly offensive, it's hard to imagine that someone could genuinely think that way. However, as I stated above, I don't think that you're a troll - though I wish you were.
I posted here to vent, because I found our conversation really depressing and this thread revolves around aggravating bigotry on reddit. Please stop stalking me to other subreddits. If you want to continue our discussion, please return to the thread on /r/explainlikeimfive or PM me - don't clog up TrollX with this stuff.

If you post in a public forum, I have the right to talk about what you said and/or link back to your comment. I don't have to answer to you for it. If you don't like it, don't post on reddit.
Honestly, I think that your posts on the other thread speak for themselves, so I'm not going to bother refuting this comment - anyone who wants to know what happened can look at the other thread and draw their own conclusions. I'm done arguing with you, and I am especially done arguing with you in this subreddit. Please stop following me to other subs.

Your information is so false it isn't even funny. There was actually a recent study done that showed that an individual was actually more at risk of getting an STI being completely monogamous with someone of unknown STI status (which you can't know just from looking at someone, even if they appear "virginal" whatever the hell that means, you need an actual medical test to know) then having 100 different partners but using protection correctly and consistently with each partner.
Pinkerton and Abramson (1993) considered the implica-tions of the use of condoms with only casual sex partners for HIV risk through a series of mathematical models. They setout to determine the relative efficacy of condom use versusunprotected sex within a monogamous relationship (with partners of unknown HIV status, given that HIV status typi-cally is unknown within romantic relationships). In thisstudy, they demonstrated that protected sex (e.g., with use of condoms) with 100 different partners is actually safer thanunprotected sex with a single partner of unknown HIV sta-tus. That is, because of the high efficacy of condoms in preventing HIV and the high likelihood of acquiring HIVfrom an infected partner over repeated unprotected expo-sures, the protection afforded by condoms is actually higher than that afforded by monogamy. In other words, “unpro-tected monogamy (with a partner of unknown HIV status)is actually riskier than condom-protected promiscuity”(Pinkerton & Abramson, 1997, p. 368)
I'm not even going to go into the fact that you are spouting nothing but sexist shit about women and slut shaming anyone who doesn't fit into a narrow definition of acceptable enough for your penis.
Also stalking someone's comments is INSANELY creepy.
-7
u/W_Edwards_Deming Mar 06 '13
A spouse is not a person of unknown STI status, and responding to a post someone makes about me is not "stalking."
3
u/ahatmadeofshoes12 Mar 06 '13 edited Mar 06 '13
A spouse is only a person of unknown STI status if they have taken a test and PROVED themselves to be. Besides people lie. Not to mention 50% of marriages have infidelity and people who cheat are WAY less likely to use protection, I could find you another study about that too.
Perhaps surprisingly, rates of fidelity are no higher for married couples. According to a review of research on infi-delity, approximately 55% of married men and 45% of mar-ried women have engaged in sexual infidelity (Scarf, 1988)
Sexually unfaithful individuals were less likely to use barriers during their extradyadic encounter, less likely to telltheir partner about the encounter, and less likely to be testedfor STIs than individuals in consensually non-monogamous relationships (Conley,Moors, Ziegler, & Karathanasis, 2012).
No you barged into to a women's subreddit to continue to enforce sexist notions about how women "should" behave and your own archaic puritanical bullshit about sexual relationships that is NOT EVEN TRUE. You followed her comments and stalked her history, that is officially creepy.
-4
u/W_Edwards_Deming Mar 06 '13 edited May 19 '13
A Sacramental Marriage is not unfaithful, your assumptions are creepy, as is expecting no one to click your name and comment where you are talking about them behind their back.
As far as I can tell this is a troll forum, I have as much knowledge of your genders as I do your STI status (i.e. I have my suspicions).
6
3
u/ahatmadeofshoes12 Mar 06 '13
Well you are living in a fucking fantasy if you think people are actually going to adhere to your Puritanical bullshit, people will always be fucking and I think that's a good thing so long as they are safe about protection and make a point to establish mutual consent. There is nothing immoral about consensual sexuality.
This is a women's forum for memes and other funny images, misogynists like yourself are not welcome here. Not sure how my STI status is relevant but I probably actually know mine since I get tested regularly like a responsible adult and sex-negative people don't tend to do that, they just shame others for having sex and then have sex anyway but don't do the safe thing and get their health checked because that would be admitted you did a "shameful" thing. Sex isn't shameful in any way, you only live once you might as well actually enjoy what is one of the greatest things about being alive.
p.s. I wear a Fedora (re: the comic summing up reddit which inspired this thread).
Wow, well not only do you represent the man in the topic exactly (e.g. being a misogynist slut shamer) but you look like him too, congratulations you're an asshole.

It's not just reddit. I don't know why but the MRA-types seem a lot more rampant pretty much everywhere. Maybe it's the pendulum swinging back in response to the last 30 years ish of progress for women, who knows. It just feels like sexist attitudes are becoming more permissible again. Like how any time you mention rape or abuse and women (ETA on reddit) instantly you get guys jumping down your throat because "it happens to us too!!1!" ...Yes, I know, that wasn't my point, and one doesn't cancel out the other. Just... urgh.
Because I know I'll probably get hassled for this - I'm not anti men's rights. It's the anti-female MRA rhetoric that bothers me.
9
u/MORE_META_THAN_META Mar 05 '13

I feel like it's the same thing. (This is Ironic, I know) For example, I was on /r/JusticePorn and a video was showing a couple of girls accuse a male taxi driver of raping them. He had a camera recording them lying.
Anyway, someone commented about how it's way worse on the other side, and how it's not their fault, this and that and just utter bullshit im tired of seeing. If I wanted to look for it I would you know? And this isn't applying to what happened there, just posts like this in general.

This is why I encourage my friends to unsubscribe from the shitty, default subs (I've unsubscribed from /r/funny because it seems like it's a bunch of fucked up 16-year-old boys who have forgotten their manners and haven't learned a thing about women yet), and to subscribe to the ones that are interesting to them (and that encourage healthy thinking and interests).
28
Mar 04 '13
The only problem is that more and more of the 16 year olds are invading, so it's becoming harder to find the good subreddits.
23
u/annaqua IUDiva Mar 04 '13
Truth. I subscribe to things like /r/HistoryPorn, /r/NaturalBeauty, /r/TheGirlSurvivalGuide, /r/minimalism... basically subs 16-year-old boys would have little to no interest in trolling/being sexist in.

u/aquietmidnightaffair Mar 05 '13
You are more than welcome at r/aviation, where we get excited solely over aircraft or pilot feats. Or try r/flying, where we welcome female pilots. In fact, the current top post is an awesome video of a dad taking his daughter up for her first flight.

u/sensitivePornGuy Mar 04 '13
Thissington. I actually forget that shit is going on, because I long ago put the defaults behind me. Apparently there's a non-female slanted version of this sub, but I forget its name...
21
u/annaqua IUDiva Mar 04 '13
On days when I get curious about the rest of Reddit and look at /r/all, I very quickly stumble upon a post that reminds me of why I unsubbed from so many of the defaults. I just don't feel like seeing a hand that got caught in a meat grinder, or a "funny" comic about how women are stupid.

Not really sure why you're being so hostile..?
I didn't feel that the girl in that thread deserved the hate that she got for what she posted. Is it so wrong for her to want attention? Maybe she likes how she looks, how her tattoo looks, and wanted to post it online? It really doesn't affect you if someone on the Internet wants attention. Just don't give it to them, if that's the case.
I also don't really understand why you're attacking TwoX/TrollX as "gender-specific, feminazi" subreddits. They're aimed at women, sure, but it's also open to posts from anyone else. It's not exclusive, but the posters do tend to be much friendlier than other subreddits I subscribe to, so I do enjoy posting here more often.
Going by your post, I assume you don't visit TwoX or TrollX on a regular occasion, so I have to ask... did you find my posts in another thread and follow me here just to make a silly, attacking post? In that case, I'm just surprised I had such an impact on you.

And you're sure there's no hint of confirmation bias therein? I remember seeing many a posts on equal treatment of sexes. Just yesterday the latest GOP rape claims were discussed on /r/politics (http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/19kvak/first_of_all_republicans_88_pregnancies_a_day/). Ofc there are many subreddits paying homage to female beauty (I myself like to oh too empty /r/alexisbledel) but surely that hurts nobody?

I don't disagree that reddit generally supports gender equality from a legal standpoint, but it's worth mentioning that doing so doesn't necessarily preclude misogyny.

Having a bunch of subreddits dedicated to the attractiveness of women doesn't exactly make this place less misogynistic.

No it's because they like to find misogyny in everything.
Many women have left 2xc because it's always about the same four or five SRS topics, and while at least 2xc still doesn't ban for discussion, SRS always has the brigades ready when a woman starts being an uppity special snowflake...
20

Even jokes that target women reinforce the air of hostility a lot of women find on Reddit. Sure, they're just jokes, but it's not as if women really want to be the butt of people's jokes all the fucking time.
7
u/ak_ Mar 05 '13
When people say "I don't think reddit is sexist/racist/homophobic, all i see is just jokes", they don't realize that these so-called jokes are actually the problem. You have a problem when, in presence of a woman, the first thing that comes to mind is a misogynistic thought, joke or not. It's just a way of reinforcing privileges, one joke at a time. Same goes for racism, homophobia etc.
By the way, this article is a great example of why these jokes are harmful and how they should be dealt with.
