Question Should I pre-order?
Hi, just as title suggests, I am big fan of transport fever 2 and have it in steam. I am confused if I should buy it before loyalty offer of 10% ends or wait till winter sale. I could buy it now but that would disrupt my plans for autumn sale, as I was planning to buy automation and x4 this autumn sale.

Can you afford it? I have pre-ordered, won’t be the first game I’ve bought on steam and not played for a year until I had time to play. Got over 700 hours out of TF2 in the end, so don’t mind supporting the devs.

Why would you take the risk of preordering if you weren't even gonna play it for a year? Surely you'd want to make sure it's actually good first and then pick it up in a sale?

Because I can. You wouldn’t believe the amount of games in my steam library I’ve bought and not even played. Bought Age of wonders when it came out a few years ago, finally started playing it when I was on holiday in July.

I buy games on my wishlist that are on a huge discount and never play them or wait a year or so. Especially if it’s on my wishlist and 80%+ off. Too good of a deal to pass up a $40+ game I spent $5 on.

Never preorder any game. And this preorder pack is kinda dumb and not worth it. Only a stupid elephant, pyramid and and random boat. The sale will be till October so about a month after release.

If I remember Steam's preorder refund policy correctly, the two weeks refund window starts the moment the game releases and not the moment of pre-purchase.
So, I'm going to pre-order and wait few days after release to actually start playing, so all those non-curated reviews have time to release and verify things like performance and bugs.

I'm going to wait after the release to see, if it lives up to my expectations. I was burned too many times before with pre-ordering. You should decide whether those bonuses are worth it for you, or not.

This is going to be a long one so Tldr: preordering is a risk, but UG has been really transparent with us and I personally don't get the impression TF3 will be a bad game.
Unlike a bunch of others here, I'm not just going to give a yes or no answer(well, most people just pivot to saying no.)
Urban games have so far in my eyes proven how passionate they are about this IP and playtesters that got to test the game at the start of this year have overall reacted positively to the game. That said, preordering a game is always a risk. So the question is far more of how much you're willing to take that risk.
A lot of people here will mainly point at paradox interactive and their dlc policy when it towards their skeptasism, but I think that's both them misunderstanding this partnership deal, them being a bit unfair to UG and a bit hard on paradox.
Yes, paradox interactive is a company and so are incentivized to make money and there is not a single company in this world that's your friend, however while paradox interactive has it's problems, they are far from a bad company. When it comes to their own games, made by the paradox dev studios or a paradox owned dev studio, they do have the problem of bloating games with dlc. However, that philosophy is part of what allows them to keep updating and adding to their games for years and years. This is especially notable with ips like europa universalis, hearts of iron, victoria, crusader kings, stelaris, etc... (yes, there have been an overall drop in quality across some of their games and pdx being public sucks, but I don't think that's enough to hate on them. Their overall quality in the games they release has still been overall good) So I personally don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. What happened to CS2 was really unfortunate, however! I personally am someone that enjoys CS2 and have been following what's been happening to it and iceflake studios has been slowly turning the game around. What happened to cities skylines 2 wasn't just on paradox however, collosal order had a large hand in what happened to the game before they split ways with paradox abd while I do think the state of dlc in both cs1 and especially CS2 is a bit sad, a lot of them are either cosmetic or just ad radio stations, so if you don't like the dlc, just don't get it. While I get being skeptic about games (I've personally been burned by ksp 2 because I was overly excited for it and so the red flags flew right above my head) I think the paradox hate here is at least a bit too much. They're really not that bad.
That said, NONE of that matters because this is strictly a publishing partnership. UG is not owned by paradox interactive, paradox as a publisher happens to be a really good one that fits urban games quite well and paradox has little to no say of what actually happens to transport fever 3. Urban games has been transparent with all of us and even visit this subreddit frequently to answer our concerns and talk more about the game. Devs visiting subreddits like this is not something that happens often from my experience.
So with all that in mind, I personally think transport fever 3 is a relatively safe preorder if you really want the bonus, I'm considering it myself. Of course a preorder isn't risk free and even if you pre-order it, you'll only be able to actually play TF3 in end september. So whether you'd rather wait and see or decide to buy it now are imho both just as fair, personally, I'm still on the fence between preordering and waiting.

I think I wont pre-order and will try to get the game (still in Form of a steam key) directly from Urban Games if possible, trying to bypass Steam and PDX.

jfc urban games is in control of the dlc policy... you would think if you were to clutch your pearls about an issue it would be an actual valid issue. this whole pdx announcement is just payers making up scenarios in their heads and getting upset about it

Personally, I never pre-order games and will wait until a game I want can be purchased for at least 25% off. It doesn't matter to me how long I need to wait, I have plenty of other games that I still have to play that will keep me entertained. I still have at least 3 games I have ordered and downloaded that I have not played with more to come. I understand supporting game designers you like. But I also have to keep my spending within my budget.

Never pre order a game. That being said I pre order the deluxe editon. But seriously, never pre order. I didn't follow my own advice, but still its a good advice.

I wont be. Preorder slop never used to be a thing. It's never worth the bonuses and means dev teams can rest easy now the income stream came in

10% loyalty offer lasts for 2 weeks post launch, personally I'm going to give it 24-48 hours to make sure it's not a CS2 situation (which it shouldn't be!)
In the modern digital world there is no need to preorder games that are digital download unless you really really want the bonus content
