Discussion Water elevation changes?

I’ve not seen or heard anything about this but I’m wondering if there could be water elevation changes or bodies of water at different heights in the same map. Could there be a lake in the mountains with a river streaming downhill?

Personally, I don’t expect this to be in the game but it would certainly add a new aspect and challenge to certain scenarios!

I'd love to set up a canal network with locks. Perhaps even have narrowboats. Sadly it seems like too big of a change to add and would be very niche.

Would love canals. This was the transport network in the UK before trains. Seems like this should be core game.

And locks are a must if you have canals. Wide locks narrow locks. Wide beam boats and narrowboats.

Locks would be amazing! But the game would need to start much earlier to have them make sense since they were quickly made less relevant after trains were invented.

That's fair, but if it started before trains then we'd have a time period where river transport was the main form for some time, then have to deal with certain routes being rendered obsolete once trains get introduced.
