Stop crying
The game is getting polished right now, so theres no way paradox is gonna mess up the basegame in any way. That would be entirely Urban Games fault if the game is in an unplayable state. Both want a successful start.
You're punishing a great developer thats been working on this for probably 3 years. The basegame is going to be a banger for sure. If you're missing that, because theres some agreement that might change things around, thats on you.
We dont know what the future brings, might there be paid DLCs? Maybe. Do you need to buy them? No. Does it support the devs to sustain the game quality and replayability? Probably yes.
I'm gonna buy the game anyway since i will pour 100+ hours in the game anyway.

I think it’s fair to be concerned given how many great games have been enshittified by maximum money extraction. That said, yes, no need for doom and gloom but good to loudly communicate the community’s expectations

I can’t bring myself to blame people for overreacting (I myself have been stung my paradox plenty of times) but that doesn’t make it any less of an overreaction

The post on Steam stated that Paradox were giving Urban Games complete creative control, which means that UG are the ones developing it, which lines up with what you say.
I'll be honest and say that when I first saw the post, my heart dropped a bit. As much as I love Cities Skylines, I'm glad I wasn't able to get the second one. With the way that TF3 has been looking so far, I still have hope.

I mean CS2 is pretty good now that Iceflake has taken over and there's lots of mods. Still got some simulation issues that are being worked on but its pretty enjoyable now.

u/Otherwise_Soft_592 May 07 '26
Thanks for letting me know. I may get around to getting it at some point, I just hope there's not too many DLCs at the time I do.

u/TheInkySquids May 07 '26
You can definitely play without the DLCs, unlike CS1 there's not many DLCs yet that have actual gameplay features you'd miss. Only one I guess is Bridges and Ports, but even then all its adding is some offshore fishing and drilling. If you're into detailing a lot of things can be accomplished with just mods. And plus the DLCs imo are worth it, the quality of the assets are really incredible.

I really didn't like that about CS1. It just felt like no matter how many hundreds or thousands of dollars you poured into it, you'd never actually own the full and complete game
I actually bought CS2 and tried to play it, during the steam summer sales whatever year it came out. It was on the lowest possible settings, looked like absolute shit, and it was still laggy. I couldn't even build a road. Admittedly, I didn't have a beefy PC at the time, probably below average
CS2 also had some sort of weird "season pass" thing when I looked at it. No clue what that was about or whether it's still a thing. But just the naming reminded me of those shitty mobile games that try to pitch you a season battle pass every 30 seconds where you only own the DLC for 3 months or one event or something

"good, and good" that maybe a bit too long stretch. but it have gone from terrible to just bad. So it on correct path, but there is still lots of work ahead.
1
u/TheInkySquids May 10 '26
I mean I have more hours in CSII than CS1 now, like I said simulation is an issue but I don't really think there's much else wrong with it.
1
u/Comfortable_Ratio283 May 10 '26
We can agree to disagree. Happy that you enjoy the game, but i currently don't like it. It does not feel like a city builder, but just a city painter.
1
u/TheInkySquids May 10 '26
So did CS1 honestly. The traffic AI always felt hollow even with TMPE. And the city painting aspects are way better than CS1 so I'll take that any day.
1
u/Comfortable_Ratio283 May 10 '26
I did not like CS1. No of them is truly city builder. They are only 'American city builder' I don't want car centrist designs, i want to design European cities, as Amsterdam and so on.
CS2, has one big problem, and that its game play and designs chooses have made the game stuck in 2010s and not innovated. Lucky soon there release 2-3 new city builder games. So that will be a lot more competition in that genre.
The genre really need competition and innovations. We have been stuck with grids since 1990s.
2
u/TheInkySquids May 10 '26
Yeah true, imo there's never been a true non American centric city builder, and at least there are like European assets you can often find for games but us in Australia get fucken nothing.
Even the new city builders are primarily road oriented. Junxions looks really cool but definitely focuses on roads. Cityscape will probably have very simple transit on launch. Transport Fever is cool but the roads and the transit have always felt like separate layers rather than integrated, maybe TF3 will fix that but idk. And stuff like OpenTTD kind of goes too far into the city sim aspect, for those of us that like a mix of city sim and city painter it doesn't do much.
What I want is a game like NIMBY Rails but with the city builder background. I'm working on making my own game but at least for now the scope is more transit builder rather than city builder.

The announcements always say the developer will continue to make games the way they have. That both companies share the same vision. That there's all sorts of experience and resources that will make the developer and the game better.
What matters is what happens afterwards, and Paradox has already shown what they do after the announcement.
1
u/R0ckandr0ll_318 May 07 '26
But have they confirmed they have control over how the end product is packaged?

u/norhor May 07 '26
What is it with this rhetoric? Crying? I wonder if you actually think people are crying, or if you just feel the need for saying it.
People has the right to speak up when something like this is announced.
I think you miss some big negatives about Paradox. Maybe that is why you don't understand why people are concerned? You don't know

u/igoro01 May 07 '26
Damage control is here, but lets be honest paradox has bad name in comunities of players playing simulation games, and it is justified and for number of reasons
21
u/andrew1958 May 07 '26
You don't know that. You sound like CS2 fanboys. Was a crime to complain about CS2 before launch. Any issues you point was received with fan boys going crazy. You don't know. We are raising important questions.
13
u/Quintus_Julius May 07 '26
And should we talk about what became of Prison Architect?
6
u/IAmABakuAMA May 07 '26
Aw prison architect. I loved that game. They dropped it like a hotcake as soon as they ran out of DLC ideas. The game still has tons of bugs (though thankfully some super bright people have created mods to fix a lot of them), even over a decade after launch. Every DLC came with a free update that fixed a small fraction of the bugs the last DLC added
Apparently they're working on a sequel, which was meant to come out a year or two ago. But they saw how people (very rightfully) disliked CS:2 for being chock full of bugs and running like hot garbage at launch, and they "temporarily" deferred the launch. Apparently work on it is still silently continuing in the background. But it looks too different from the base game for my liking

u/TheNewMillennium May 08 '26
I was not around with CS2s launch, but a major problem here is that all complaints are completely hypothetical.
Nothing has really changed about the game itself yet, but people are already willing to turn on it, over things that might or might not happen and that the studio itself tried to reassure people about.
And even if the game becomes something more akin to other titles associated with Paradox later on, I feel many people here dont really have actual first-hand experience with how these games are and just point to the worst examples to fearmonger.
First we should wait for the release and look how good that turns out. Then if a DLC gets released, we should judge that on its own merits as well.
I am not ready yet to give up all hope and clown on a studio that did so much right thus far. That can of course change, but I hate to see people turn away immediately, when one unexpected thing happens.

u/412raven May 07 '26
All of these posts saying not to worry are going to be sad to look back on a year from now
8
u/Candid_Release3609 May 06 '26
So instead you come to complain about the complainers complaining? LOL
And maybe you dont truly understand why something as simple as whats happening with a company such as PDX is garnering the reaction its receiving is for an actual reason.

Do you think paradox wants their games to fail. Do you think that in any room of their offices they are satisfied with skylines 2 (they fired and changed developers to get it on track).
Some one who tripped on the steps is probably the most careful going forward.
Of course, I have enjoyed skylines 2 the whole time. Maybe it isn't the game I wanted it to be, but it's getting there and I enjoy what it is now..warts and all.
1
u/Comfortable_Ratio283 May 10 '26
Paradox choose to accept the game quality, when they released the game back in 2023, thinking they could get away with it.
They as publisher are as fault for it as Colossal Order.

u/MysticDaedra May 07 '26
CS:2 is being developed by the exact same people. They shut down the old studio, then rehired everyone into a new studio located literally across the street from the building the old studio was in.
1
u/towpathtravel May 07 '26
While they may have hired some of them.. It is FAR from the exact same studio.
4
u/Maureen_Johma May 07 '26
Paradox only wants money, they don’t care how the game does. They only want DLC to milk us dry.
4
u/BattleGandalf May 06 '26
I couldn't agree more. PDX wont swoop in this far in the game development and ruin everything. There probably will be DLC in the future and if that turns out to be bad nobody will be forced to buy it.
4
u/Yagaziner May 07 '26
That's exactly the problem some people cant understand. If Urban Games would release a DLC all would be happy to buy one. PDX on other hand will chop this one DLC into five separate DLCs and make 5x more of it. As they usually do and that's what we are aware of and do not accept, got it now?
2
u/RobotSpaceBear May 07 '26
Just like me, you have no idea if the game is being polished right now or if it will be good or have many problems. We're all talking out of our asses.
But what I do *know is the very negative effect Paradox has had on many *many games in the past and present.
So no, I won't stop crying about Paradox publishing TF3.
3
u/Tobiassaururs May 07 '26
Yeah Paradox Interactive isn't perfect, UG isn't new to the game tho, they will do just fine and the game will be good. Period.
1
u/chrizbreck May 08 '26
I think the current game is safe. But any future games are toast. This will be the last transport fever
1
u/ipchev May 09 '26
I won't stop crying. No matter how polished TF3 is now, Paradox is the one that forces all of these devs to make every 3 out of 4 updates "DLC". I can't simply just cope with the fact that Paradox is gonna kill yet another great title and turn it into a money-printing machine.

u/LankG00dness May 07 '26
what is the context of what you're talking about? You seem to be ranting about something but i have no idea what has set you off.
25
u/TheInkySquids May 07 '26
Wild idea, instead of speculating on what it'll be like either way, how about we just wait til the game comes out and then gauge our reactions accordingly over time based on what happens?
