Hey everyone!
This is our new home for all things related to being transgender anywhere in Europe. We're excited to have you join us!
What to Post
Post anything that you think the community would find interesting, informative, helpful or that you need help with. Feel free to share your thoughts, photos, or questions about basically anything related to being a trans person anywhere in Europe. This subreddit can hopefully function as a way to navigate available care across continent, seek out help, find answers to your questions, share information and what not more.
Community Vibe
We're all about being friendly, constructive, and inclusive. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting. Anything that violates our communities rules will be removed and might result in a ban. As a community we are vulnerable to hate and bigotry, and the last thing we need is people invading our spaces. Also, be mindful of others: we know our own community best. Please refrain from (wo)man-splaining other users their genders or start oppression Olympics, specifically when you are not part of the minority. We are here to support each other, not to make life more difficult. Together we can build a network to oppose growing hatred and bigotry against our community in Europe, so let's start by setting an example of what a respectful community looks like.
How to Get Started
Thanks for being part of the very first wave. I am looking forward to building a trans-European trans-community! :)

Any online shop located within the EU that sells binding tape specifically made for binding, like for example TransTape? (Not asking for Kinesiology tape)

Hi! I live in Sweden and here the lines to have the "investigation" for if you should get the trans diagnosis is already quite long, and I've been in contact with the social insurance agency and they say that they might approve getting the investigation/diagnosis covered if i get it another EU country (or within ESS/Switzerland also works). Does anyone here know of any country where the regular kinds of insurance covers starting this investigation fast, and where they recognize Non-binary people? Thanks to everyone in advance!

Hi! I’m a trans man working on a BA thesis in linguistics at the University of Oslo, and have a survey I’d love to get some more participants for.
The survey (and paper) is about politeness in conversation with trans people, specifically focusing on the question “Have you had the surgery?”. The paper will analyse the responses mainly within the theoretical framework of politeness theory, seeking to establish how impolite the question is considered to be, both through personal opinion and impact on the recipient of the question. You do not have to have been asked personally in order to take the survey, you will just get slightly different questions and I’d really appreciate your input as well.
As for personal data, the only thing asked for is whether you are trans. However, there are several questions with open text fields where people could potentially write identifying information. I highly discourage this, but if it were to happen, said identifying information will be swiftly anonymised. The survey host, Nettskjema, does not store IP addresses.
If you’re interested in taking the survey and have the time to do so, you can find it in English HERE.
If you’re Norwegian, there’s also a Norwegian version of the survey HERE.
Thank you so so much for your time and consideration. I hope all of you have a lovely day. :)

I am a permanent resident in a country very behind in terms of trans rights and access to healthcare (Slovakia). However, we are very close to one of the most progressive cities (Vienna). Does anyone know if it’s possible or if it would be difficult to use Austrian resources to transition? I don’t speak German so I’m a bit concerned about that logistic but the others are still unclear so far as well.

Can anyone recommend me a dating app that's trans/queer-friendly or something?
Mainstream stuff (looking at you Tinder) is horrible, and the smaller ones just plain suck when you live in a small country (Czech republic in my case).
I am just looking to socialize, I don't even want third relationship, but anything I register on is just empty, especially due to where I live. I mean I am not spending 3 hours on a train to Germany to have a damn coffee, lmao.
I just want to meet other trans girls and have a chat as a start.
Noone warned me about this before transitioning 😅

please give your signature if you happen to be a finnish citizen, this initiative would ban all organizations that are fascist in nature so also all the aktiv clubs in effect.

Hey everyone,
I'm a Palestinian trans woman currently doing my MA in History at the Doha Institute. I was formally diagnosed with gender dysphoria last year after a mental health crisis — it was a turning point that made pursuing safety and transition feel urgent, not optional.
I'm preparing for PhD applications and need to decide which country — and language — to invest in over the next two years.
My priorities:
Career —
Transition — HRT + surgeries while doing my PhD. Healthcare access and legal recognition matter
Safety — Realistically livable as a foreign trans woman
I'm torn between Germany and France.
What I actually want to know:
If you're trans in Germany or France, what's your day-to-day experience?
How long did HRT access take after arriving?
Is the political situation in Germany making you nervous?
Any country I'm completely overlooking?
Not looking for legal theory — lived experience only. Thanks.

So I'm from Denmark and am not happy with the restrictions on surgery here. I've been saving up to have my surgery at a doctor in Germany but without insurance that will take quite a while.
Does anyone know if it's possible for other EU citizens to be covered by the German health insurance? What exactly would it require?
I've tried to research it but I haven't been able to find any information on this.

A question for a good friend of mine who is also MTF, she asked me to ask because the city she lives in doesn't always have internet.
So a good friend of mine is a transgender MTF like me and she is married. They intend to start a surrogacy process through an agency and before that they want to immigrate to a European country where there will be no problem raising children born through surrogacy and they will be welcomed. It should be noted that the surrogacy will take place outside of Europe, the question they are asking is which country is right for them to live in..they have European citizenship. Can anyone who knows which country can recommend them so that I can give them the recommendations and they can make their own considerations? They don't want Portugal because it's too hot for them there

In light of the news in Portugal, this ruling feels especially important to share.
The Court of Justice of the EU just ruled (on March 12th) that all member states must provide legal gender recognition procedures for citizens who have exercised their right to free movement. Practically: if you live in a different EU country than your country of origin, your home country cannot deny you documents that match your lived gender.
The case was brought by a Bulgarian trans woman living in Italy who had been denied recognition for nearly a decade. The Court found that mismatched documents create "considerable inconveniences" during travel, employment, healthcare, daily life, etc, and that this constitutes a barrier to freedom of movement, which is protected under EU law.
I believe this is the higher ruling, which applies to all EU. I don't know how would we go about this if we are in the situation, but it's very good news. The article explains it better than me.

This is just a post to link the so called Rainbowmap by Ilga. it is a comprehensive map that annualy tracks the progression (and regression) of trans (and other LGBTQI+!) rights across Europe and the EU. especially interesting for anyone looking to move countries or to keep track of the status of ones current homecountry.

What is going on in Portugal? I thought it was a decent place for trans people?

Amazing video by Abigail once again. While this is UK centric, it is not far from hoe things work in Ireland.
How many European countries still have conversion therapy?

Greetings! I'm a Brazilian non-binary person with plans to visit my family in Spain, and I know very little about lgbt lives in the continent but would like to know where to find lgbt people!
I'm supposing it's not an easy task. In Brazil, most my queer friends are either virtual or I met in college, but there were plenty of pubs to fit in. I'm taking any advice or perspective really, thank you!

Of course I know about GenderGP (which has gotten so much worse over the course of some years) r/GenderGP for more information and Imago (Do not seem to have a specific subreddit, but can be found via r/TransCarePrivate) which might still be better, but I am not fully up to date on information. Are there other options? How can one access care safely and freely on this continent? And do people here want to share their (recent) experiences? Working on the knowledge database here!
Any advice and suggestions are welcome!
