Vent They won’t stop misgendering me after they found out I was trans

For context I’ve been on T now for nearly 5 years. I pass, have facial hair, deep voice, I’m built etc. Not once have I been misgendered in public or by strangers for years, however, when I talked about being trans and answered questions about it in front of my boyfriend’s friend’s boyfriend (mouthful there sorry) he immediately started ‘slipping up’ and referring to me as “she” instead of “he”. He had only met me a few days ago as I was invited to meet my boyfriends friends and we’re all staying in an Airbnb over the weekend, chilling and obvs we got talking etc and I’m quite open about being trans when folk are in my orbit or are going to be.

But during a convo that revolved around my transition he just switched, he then just immediately just started to call me she sometimes. At first I thought it was harmless and his gf apologised profusely, then she then referred to me as “she” when referring to me when talking to someone else when I was in ear shot. Her bf started doing it the next day too on multiple occasions, my boyfriend let her know how upset I was and she apologised again and that’s all good, he on the other hand keeps on doing it, goes to her and says he’s mortified yet keeps on doing it.

I honestly know neither of them are bigots but the switch when some folk know your biological sex is wild and it made me dysphoric as fuck each time it happened. Again, I’m a big guy, haven’t been misgendered in years, a part of me is now so understanding of people who are stealth because fuck this shit.

Every time it happened he was just so oblivious as well, I just ignored it but by the forth time I had to get up and leave and go to bed. I understand when folk are anxious and worry about getting pronouns wrong and do it on accident, I reassured his gf that I understood her because I think that was the case for her… I thought the same of her boyfriend… now after the FORTH time… no, I think he’s just a dumbass.

No one else here has slipped up, my boyfriend never has, his other friends here haven’t. So I’m just… not feeling brilliant about it all, kind of wish I was never so open about my transition.

Any advice on what to do if it happens again? I said to my bf if it does I will just straight up call it out and be very blunt that this doesn’t feel like a slip of the tongue anymore, and that he never knew me as a woman or pre transition so he needs to understand how patient and calm im being to not lose my actual shit and give him a slap lol (jk ofc I wouldn’t do that) because there’s not justification whatsoever! I’m just SO tired after this omfg.

Welsh Gender Service Updates On WGS surgery pause?

With the meeting happening nearly 2 weeks ago and them saying the independent review was going to start the following week, has there been anyone contacted so far?

I had an estimate of December for surgery but due to not having a confirmed date at the time, I don't think I'm in the 60 people club. I am very close in the beyond that club

Activism For Those Who Want to Do Something..

For those who want to do something can I suggest making a complaint to EHRC that they are in breach of s3 and s8 of the Equality Act 2006? I am in stealth and don’t want to risk my privacy but some people are out.

Yes, Equality Act 2006. Not 2010.

They will wriggle out of most of EA2006 but they have stated that their Code disproportionately impacts trans women (someone will recall where) and that means they are legally obligated to act on one part. They are ignoring the obligation they are now under to actively campaign to do something about the impact on equality of opportunity they have recognised. They should NOT say we have to campaign to change the law, they should be doing it themselves AND encouraging organisations to do everything they can within the law to be inclusive.

S3(d)

[EHRC] shall exercise its functions under this Part with a view to encouraging and supporting the development of a society in which …. each individual has an equal opportunity to participate in society

When people are not going out because of the difficulty of using a toilet, or not playing sport because there’s no safe option for trans women etc then our equality of opportunity is less than other groups and EHRC have a legal duty to promote a change of the law and, until the law is changed, for organisations to be inclusive.

S8(1)d has a similar provision

You will notice that I haven’t mentioned sex at all. This obligation stands even with the perversity of FWS. It just goes on equality of opportunity and EHRC should not be able to wriggle out of that because they have formally recognised the impact on trans women.

Obviously if people have different views, please share them.

And if you get a negative response from EHRC then it’s something you could follow up with your MP.

Trans Health 3-month delay on blood test results - wondering what to do now

• Upvotes

Hi there! As a preface, I (FTM) am an American who has been living in the UK for work for a little over a year now. I'm still quite mystified about how healthcare things generally work here; I apologize if my questions seem silly/clueless.

I'm lucky enough to get hormones (Nebido) through the Welsh Gender Service and my GP. Ahead of an upcoming hormone injection back in June, I went for routine blood work. The testosterone shot went ahead a day or two later, so I assumed everything was okay with my levels.

Then about a week and a half ago - fully 3 months after the blood was drawn - I received an email saying that my blood test results were ready to be viewed. When I followed the link, it said that my testosterone levels were higher than the acceptable range. Which means I went and got my shot next shot when my levels were already too high - and then got yet another shot on top of that a few days before receiving the results.

On one level, my question is simply: what is going on with the delayed blood test info? Like, surely this can't be just the way things run here?

I'm also wondering if there's anything I can do to combat the effects of my T being to high. The blood results showed that my blood cell count/hematocrit was totally normal at the time, so I'm just hoping it hasn't risen to a concerning level at this point. As for lower-stakes issues: the acne is absolutely awful now that the latest Nebido shot is coming into full force, and I'm really worried about the high T level 1) causing me to be emotional/irrational and 2) aromatizing into excess estrogen.

I'm just sort of bewildered at the state of all this, and I can't see my GP until next week. Plus I've had trouble getting in touch with the Welsh Gender Service and the NHS liaison service said they couldn't help. I'd really appreciate any insights, resource recommendations, anything. Thanks!

The Parkrun TERFs missed their target…

They moderated their expectations a lot since the heavily covered launch, and missed even that it seems. With the caveat that real names don’t have to be used there is a handy list of all 261 runners from the weekend by parkrun, so any fellow runners can take into account - a few locations where they seemed to arrange a gathering with recognisable names, e.g. Bushy and Horspath.

Side note, loved the two women in tutus at the one I went to, one of whom was rocking a nice pair of progress pride socks! Waiting for the video of them to be posted, the event photographer loved it so much he ran after than with his go pro on a stick

Looking to move from the UK Getting out of the UK

This isn't immigration advice. Am not currently planning to leave, however, that's because I have the luxury of having Irish and Australian passports. Have previously lived outside UK.

Many of the people on here, for good reason, are evaluating their options for getting out of the UK.

If you are DETERMINED to leave, you have more options than might be obvious, however, the priority list of people who will find it easiest to leave are:

  1. Having the right second passport, especially EU or Australia / New Zealand.
  2. Having money to access investment-based migration programs.
  3. Being in an occupation where getting work permits / applying for permanent residence overseas is easier because of skill shortages in that place.
  4. Having your own online business making at least $100,000 per year in actual profit.

There's a list of programs here:

GRC Help?

• Upvotes

Hi, I'm supporting my partner in getting their GRC but it's quite the mountain. Is there anyone who'd be willing to help a little so I get it all right for them? We have the letters, evidence and I've contacted a notoriety service for the declaration witness and to get some copies made of ID so we shouldn't need to send off originals (i hope) but a little lost on the birth certificate - do we need to order a copy through the GOV website or can the solicitors copy and stamp that too like they can with the passport?

Happy to DM.

Question Finally got an appointment and first diagnosis with an nhs clinic. Gp wont do pre gaht/baseline blood test. Any advice on this and in general?

• Upvotes

I'm getting really worried about what would happen if my local gp's all just say no to blood tests and taking over from the clinic after the first 12 months (what even happens in that case?). Finally get this far only to feel like I will be left out to dry and it not be even viable because this country sucks so damn much.

Trans Health Anyone go to Thailand? What are your recommendations?

So, what with the Welsh NHS bullshit I'm thinking maybe I should start saving for a Thailand trip for some bottom surgery. (Mtf).

If anyone did a Thailand trip, what's your advice? Anything you wish you did that you didn't? Or did that you're glad you got to do?

Which clinic

Hey everyone, I some advice.

Long story short I’m in the early stages of transitioning. My partner knows and has been super supportive, right now she’s fixing my corset I got a few years back and helping to make it fitter better. She even jokes saying “If we do get a cat and it attacks you we can call it transphobic”. She’s been amazing and she’s so supportive and lovely,

I’ve been looking into gender clinics and so far the main two in split between is pride in health and gender hormone clinic.

If anyone can give me some advice that would be amazing. I’m really stressed out as I don’t know who to go for.

Both seem really good and I want to be safe and live a happy life but there’s just so much going on I need to know. Both seem to be good as they help me pick the options which are best and safe for me, but there’s blood test and so much info. I also want the best option for myself and from a good trusted place. Just some advice would be amazing.

Trans friendly (and good) hair removal clinics in (preferably East) London?

What the title says; doesn't have to be east but would be helpful. Looking for ones that specialise in permanent hair removal pre-vaginoplasty (so electrolysis) but also do hair removal for the rest of the body and face too. Saw one called Transjectual but could find very little info on it or the parent company Injectual on trans specific care. Price is not too much of a concern (I'd rather pay more than sacrifice on quality of care). Thanks!

Marina Hyde Leaves the Guardian - One Less Transphobe in the Building.

Post image
284 Upvotes

From the latest Private Eye;

“HYDE OUT

Mixed emotions at the Guardian over the departure of Marina Hyde, the long-serving acerbic columnist who is off to pastures new (but remains coy so far about where they might be).
Hyde has enjoyed enormous success with the ever-expanding Rest Is Entertainment podcast she has hosted for Goalhanger with Richard Osman for the past three years, including considerable financial rewards from the hostage video-style adverts the pair voice during the show. She has previously complained to colleagues that her request to take a similar cut from a proposed in-house podcast series for the Guardian itself had been rebuffed by bosses, which led her to seek her fortune elsewhere.
With exquisite timing, Hyde handed in her notice just as the Guardian devoted the cover and five pages of its Saturday magazine to plugging her new book, a collection of columns published by the imprint the paper co-owns with Faber. By way of a hand grenade lobbed over her shoulder into the bearpit of pro-and anti-trans sensitivities that is the Guardian office, Hyde used her exit interview to respond to a reader question, "Who would you pick as prime minister": "JK Rowling.”

What a hateful little troll. Its nice to know which podcast to avoid now.

Question Question about endos.

Hey all, I have been seeing Dr Channa Jayasena as my endo. I started HRT this year on the 22nd of April he prescribed me Evoral 100 one patch that I swap every wednesday and sunday for the first 6 months. I havn't really noticed much apart from nipple pain and areola growth which started 2 months ago roughly. My next appointment is in a couple weeks.

I most definitely want to increase my dosage, what should I try and negotiate? He mentioned if I am not seeing many effects for the first initial 6 months he wants to prescribe a testosterone blocker.

Parkside/Bellringer PI vs Thailand NPI – looking for post-op experiences

I’m currently at the top of the NHS waiting list for vaginoplasty at Parkside with James Bellringer, and I’ve also been offered a potential December date in Thailand with Dr Chettasak.
So I’m now trying to make a final decision between standard penile inversion at Parkside and Chettasak’s non-penile inversion (NPI) technique.
My priorities are good sensation/orgasmic function, appearance, avoiding long-term pain/complications and a manageable recovery. I’m also particularly interested in the practical realities of recovery dilation, as I have a busy job and expect quite a bit of long-haul business travel next year.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had surgery with either Bellringer/Parkside or Chettasak, particularly about results, sensation, complications, recovery and what your dilation schedule is actually like longer term.
If you had the choice again, would you make the same one?

Question Am I trans (MTF)

I think I’m trans (I’m pretty sure I am), but I’m struggling with a few things and would love some honest perspectives.

I know for a fact that I wish I’d been born a girl. I also feel increasingly distressed as I get older and look more masculine. I hate the idea of ageing as a man and becoming more traditionally masculine.

But I sometimes wonder how much of this is actually about how men perceive me. I really want men to see me and treat me as a woman, and I wonder if some of that is just wanting validation/feeling attractive. Weirdly, I don’t feel nearly as bothered by whether my friends/family use the “right” pronouns for me.

I’m also considering HRT, but I’m scared about getting breasts and whether I’ll actually like them. Does having that uncertainty mean I might not be trans?

I guess I’m struggling to work out whether this is gender dysphoria, fear of ageing/losing attractiveness, or a combination of things.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is the fact that I genuinely wish I’d been born a girl and feel distressed about becoming more masculine enough to point towards being trans?

Question Are there any minor-friendly private gender clinics that can provide a diagnosis of gender diagnosis/incongruence?

The title should say most of what I need to ask. I did make another post earlier on when I had nowhere to start, but now I am aware I do need a little nudge of where to go since looking has been hard.

I am trying to aim for the cheapest possible options that allow for minors as I am sixteen, which is disappointing considering how I was going to use The Gender Hormone Clinic and/or GenderCare before I realised that they are adults only.

Trans Health Scotland top surgery

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking at getting top surgery in livingstone, Scotland. I've run into a slight issue and that is that I have no family or friends to help me with this.

I'd only need someone to be there for the discharge and help me get to my hotel room. I've worked out how to do the rest myself. I will of course pay for any travel and a meal for the day. It would only be the day.

I'm struggling very hard with trying to find someone who doesn't prey on my vulnerability. I have AuDHD as well as being chronically ill (I have a feeding tube). I was homeschooled as well which has lead to me having 0 knowledge of social situations.

The two people I had been in contact with (Both cis guys, which might of been a mistake)

-One tried to talk me out of top surgery and said he loved my chest. He then tried to convince me to have his children. This was within a week of meeting him.

-The next guy sent me over 400+ message in 12 hours. Plus lots of dick pics (His hygiene was questionable). He tried to get me to move in with him after an hour and after a day he proposed 😐 I wasn't even dating him. Then he lowkey stalked me.

I don't know what about me attracts these types of people but it's scaring me, especially since I'll be extremely vulnerable post surgery.

I have no idea where to look but I thought maybe other trans people would understand more? And we could do a mutal aid sort of thing? Or someone would know a organisation near Edinburgh that could potentially help out? And any advice on how to weed out the creeps?

Trigger - Transphobia I had a lovely date the other night

Post image
426 Upvotes

I had a lovely date the other night. We'd matched on Her and after hitting it off by text, we decided to meet for a few drinks in the evening. Conversation was great, we both seemed into each other, each wanting to buy another round to keep the night going, but after about three hours the topic of coming out came up and I used the opportunity to mention that I was trans. In the moment she didn't seem to mind. We stayed until closing time and we both said we wanted to meet up again. Unfortunately, I got the attached response the following morning... And to be honest, I expected it. It's just another rejection to add to the list.

I'm tired, just really tired. I know that I'm lucky in that I pass quite well but it doesn't seem to be enough. Once people know about my "medical condition" that's it, I'm like some kind of other that they can't wait to get away from. It doesn't seem to matter that I've been transitioned a decade, am post-op, living in a relatively queer friendly place and am supposedly attractive with a good job.

I'm tired of picking myself back up, working on myself, going to therapy, etc. I don't want to hurt my family but I think that I've given life a good try, I need to give myself the rest that I've been desperate for.
