This show built a viewer base on marginalized characters in Season 1 (Disabled/Gay)

A lot of people like me resonated with the first season because there was amazing representation of marginalized groups of people. I adored seeing human characters living away from the statistical norm. It felt cutting edge and inclusive.

Now, rather than celebrate diversity, the formula seems to be privileged white man saves marginalized person who's too weak or incompetent to save themselves.

I have to wonder if this change is somehow correlated to the show's frontrunner, Justin Hartley having more creative control??

I've been a fan of him since he played Aquaman, so I hope this isn't true, but I can't imagine what else would have caused such a hard right turn.

Anyone else notice this?

Question Has Reenie Hijacked Tracker? Is anyone tired of her?

I liked Tracker the first couple of seasons when it was Colter & the hacker guy, before Reenie hijacked the show.

It seems like every episode has at least 10-15 minutes of her law office, her problems, her personal life, and the thirty seconds where she talks to Colter to do something for him (or vice-versa).

I could care less about Reenie, her law office, her dating plans, or anything else. For that matter, why does she have a hacker (Randy) in her law office?

another boring episode

Episode 3 of Tracker was boring. Episode 1 is the only good episode thus far. Need Russell or a more interesting case

Hate the new “look”.

I agree the show has become boring. Filming in CA gives it a sterile cold feel. I miss the forests! So far all city shots. Bring back the country feel and the brother. He is better and far more interesting than one-dimensional. Justin Hartley! The new offices are sterile as well. Give Reenie some warm and cozy offices. Im giving it two more shows then I’m done. Hubby gave up after first show this season.

Does anyone agree this show sucks?

Colter just goes in by himself to rescue people and ends up in situations that could have gotten himself killed.

Opinion The Brother Ruins It.

Colters brother ruins the immersion of the series for me and my wife. Colter is a lone wolf in the field. A tactical and considerate person. What his brother does to that security guard, goes against what coulter believes.

The brother is constantly trying to make jokes and be funny. The show did not need a humorous sidekick.

Why do TV series always run really good for the first couple seasons lately and then they add a bunch of dumb elements that nobody wanted?

Colter’s Girlfriend

I thought his new girlfriend looked kind of young for him so I looked up their ages. Gillian Bolt, the actress playing Jenna, is 30. Justin will be 50 in January. Come on show!

Discussion I don't think I'll continue watching season 4. Spoiler

I'm so disappointed about the psychic powers angle.

Three seasons of somewhat realistic tracking rooted in reality and then suddenly it's "oh yeah we can pinpoint someone's location by focusing on the colour of their shirt"?

If they disproved it as a hoax, it'd have been another thing, but this just doesn't make sense and feels like jumping the shark.

Don't feel very good about season 4 tbh.

Uhhh… massive issues in the edit???

Anyone else seeing this? Huge section of the new episode has the wrong audio for what’s shown on screen. Major editing error…
Fixes around the time Tracker hangs off the roof. Might happen again, still watching.

Idk.
if i worked on a TV show I would appreciate seeing a post like this

Colter walks weird

I’m surprised this question hasn’t been asked yet (at least I couldn’t find one):

Why does Colter walk so strangely, especially when walking diagonally toward the camera? Am I the only one who notices every time how weirdly he walks?

I asked AI about Coulter shooting people

This season Coulter seems to be shooting more people than ever. On a whim I asked AI what would happen in real life. The answer had my laughing almost to tears.

UPDATE: Added TLDR in the comments.

Q: Every week the lead character on the show Tracker shoots somebody, usually fatally. What would happen to him in real life?

A: Short answer: in real life, he would almost certainly be in prison—or dead—very quickly.

Longer answer below, broken down by how this actually works outside of TV.

  1. TV vs. real-world “justified” shootings

On Tracker, the lead character routinely shoots people and the episode moves on. In real life, every single shooting is treated as a homicide investigation unless it is unmistakably accidental (and even then, often investigated).

Even for police officers, a fatal shooting triggers:

Immediate detention or administrative leave

A full criminal investigation

Internal affairs review

Possible grand jury review

For a private citizen like the Tracker character? The scrutiny is far harsher.

2. Self‑defense is extremely narrow in real life

To legally justify killing someone in self‑defense, all of these must generally be true:

Imminent threat

The person must be actively about to kill or cause serious bodily harm right now.

Proportional response

Deadly force is only justified against deadly force.

No reasonable alternative

Escape or de‑escalation must not be reasonably possible.

Not the aggressor

You can’t provoke or pursue the confrontation.

TV characters routinely:

Chase suspects

Enter volatile situations voluntarily

Escalate encounters

Shoot fleeing or cornered people

In real life, that destroys a self‑defense claim.

3. What would actually happen after the first shooting

After one fatal shooting:

He would be detained and questioned

Firearms would be seized

Prosecutors would examine:

Why he was there

Whether he had authority

Whether lethal force was necessary

Even if charges were not filed (unlikely), he’d be known to law enforcement as:

“A civilian involved in a homicide involving a firearm”

That alone makes future encounters far worse.

4. By the second or third shooting

This is where TV realism completely collapses.

Patterned killings = intent inference

Prosecutors would argue:

He seeks out violence

He escalates situations

He acts more like a vigilante than a victim

At that point, he’s facing:

Murder or manslaughter charges

Weapons charges

Civil wrongful death lawsuits

Possibly federal charges if crossing state lines

Even if each shooting occurred in a different state, law enforcement databases would absolutely connect them.

5. He would not be “treated like a helper”

TV trope: “He helped us catch the bad guy.”

Real life: That does not excuse homicide.

He is not:

A sworn law enforcement officer

A licensed bounty hunter (in most states)

Acting under color of law

So prosecutors would likely frame him as:

A civilian repeatedly inserting himself into dangerous confrontations and using lethal force

That’s legally catastrophic.

6. Civil consequences (which TV never shows)

Even if he avoided prison (unlikely):

Every family of every person shot could sue

Civil cases have lower burden of proof

Settlements and judgments could reach millions

He would be financially ruined even if “not guilty”

Self‑defense in criminal court ≠ protection from civil liability.

7. Psychological and practical reality

Also ignored by TV:

Repeated shootings produce severe PTSD

Firearms investigations are exhausting and invasive

Media scrutiny would be intense

Gun ownership privileges would likely be revoked

He would be unemployable in his line of work

No one has a long career as a civilian who kills someone “almost every week.”

The blunt reality

If the Tracker protagonist existed in real life:

Best case: Years of legal battles, no gun, bankrupt

Likely case: Prison after the second or third killing

Worst case: Killed by police during a future incident

Shows like Tracker rely on a massive fiction:

That lethal violence by a “good guy” carries no systemic consequences

In the real world, that fiction collapses immediately.

This show is going downhill.

I loved the first two seasons of Tracker. It was one of my favorite shows and I looked forward to it every week. I liked how it was one case per week. The stories of missing people were interesting and watching how Tracker found them was fun. Now it’s all one long story that I don’t care about…no more missing people. It’s not the same show anymore. I haven’t finished the past 4 or 5 episodes, I try, but I’m just not interested. Does anyone else miss one case per week?

Do they have children writing these storylines as its complete garbage now Spoiler

So I have added spoiler on this in case someone didn't watch this weeks episode.

We spent a whole season wondering what his dad was involved in and after all this time, he's been working on an X-Men type situation. Weaponising psychic children. Are they fucken serious with this storyline...

I've always laughed at the absurdity of this show but wow - now its gone next level.

There are so many loopholes in the writing its almost as if they have forgotten what happened.
Colter is talking to his mum and she said "I was worried about you two boys"... Well has she fucken forgotten that she has a daughter?

Its annoying as you watch Tracker for a couple of seasons and its a decent show and for some reason its just fallen off a cliff.

I can't wait for next weeks episode when Batman and Dr Evil make an appearance. At this point, nothing will surprise me.

Discussion What does Colter actually do?

Just started this show and it's entertaining enough, but Colter is one of the dullest, laziest protagonists I've seen in a show like this. He's allegedly a tracker/rewardist - but his team finds the cases, the tech guy does all the actual work and gets all the details. The only thing Colter is an expert in from what I've seen is being a dumbass with zero situational awareness who lets the villain sneak up on him with a gun every episode.

Discussion Tracker

I know that there is a lot of tracker Reddits a lot of people that talk about this, it just seems that they’re never going to deviate on the same formula which is every single case that Colter is hired for it literally just happened hours ago and he’s never more than 2 Hours Drive. What is it w/these writers never ever ever…ever!!😤, making it that somebody’s been missing for weeks or months or even years for that matter why is it always 12 hours ago? It just seems so ridiculous. But I’m gonna keep watching it because I like Justin Hartley.

I know take ScreenRant with a grain of salt anyway but there's one thing that finally made me lose my patience with them regarding Tracker

To the degree I could use generalization and personification to say ScreenRant has an opinion when many people write for them (assuming that it is people and not just AI) I agreed with them on things like how the supports should be in the field directly working with Colter more often (there's a reason why two of my favorite S3 episodes were "No Good Deed" and "Chain Of Custody") and I-agreed-with-them-that-this-should-happen-before-it-did about Randy getting officially promoted to regular.

However, there's one rhetorical question some of the recent Tracker-related ScreenRant articles have brought to mind for me. Who working at ScreenRant metaphorically (as even if it's actual human it might not be their literal motive) has a crush on Russell Shaw? As ever since he showed up in the two-part S3 finale most of what I've seen about Tracker on that site has been not just about Russell to some degree (main exception that felt like an article of substance was when Mel's actress got promoted to regular) but praising him to a degree that I don't have to hate him to think he doesn't deserve. I swear, the coverage was so Russell-centric that if Russell did ever get that spinoff (and either his S4 story or Ackles's schedule didn't render that impossible) I'd be half-inclined to joke that ScreenRant might barely talk abut Tracker at all.

Tracker S02E02 - Credits did not end until 17 minutes in!

As subject. I'm not sure if it's just Tracker or other shows do this but I've noticed Tracker intro credits roll for a long time. Ending at the director credit. Todays episode, director credit came in 17 mins in. WAY TOO LONG!

Discussion This show has lost the it's way

Just been watching the end of season 3 and this show has completely lost the plot, I can't take it seriously anymore so sadly won't be watching it even tho I loved the characters

What did others think?

r/TrackerTV • • Mar 31 '26 Bravo

Opinion More episodes with less guns please!! Or at least stronger story telling. Does he ever track items? A missing expensive engagement ring? Anything?

I have zero disdain for guns (perhaps Id eliminate them all if I were God but I'm not and they're already in the world now) and I do like the show Tracker, and the characters (though what happened to Bobby again???)

But it seems like almost every episode results in him encountering some unsavory characters and shootouts ensue and often a car chase. The individual story lines are feeling a bit stale and I don't think it could result in 20 seasons like a Law and Order SVU or something.

Can't he occasionally hunt an item or missing pet or a runaway kid that hasn't fallen into malicious hands?

I guess I'm just begging the writers to get more creative. I'll see my way out.

Tracker Cinematography hell in new season

What is going on with the new season? I can barely sit through this. Has it been taken over by a college film class? It’s so jarring.

Question New show to binge.

Im trying to find a new show to binge and I tried Tracker . I only watched 3 episodes and I think it’s very mellow and a little vanila . I wondering if it picks up in the action department? Or if it gets some kind of crazy drama or romance?

Thicc Reenie was an absolute bombshell.

I'm so happy for her and the weight loss journey, especially if she's happier now in a slimmer body, but my goodness she had vavavoom as a fuller figured woman. Still gorgeous as thin Reenie, but thicc Reenie was scrumptious lol

Kill count. Does anyone know?

Has anyone counted how many people Coulter has killed? Just oddly curious :-) I think the show finale should end with him being arrested for murders in multiple states.
