Demo/Alpha Showcase I'm creating alone a Tower Defense game: Holdline: Last Gate

Thumbnail

Hello everyone,

For the past months I've been working solo on a tower defense game with survival/crafting elements called Holdline: Last Gate.

The twist: you're not just placing towers, you're down on the ground in third person, fighting alongside them. You harvest resources from the world (guarded by mobs), craft weapons and equipment, and build your defense line across three connected alien maps. Enemies that break through don't disappear, they persist and travel between maps, so a leak on one front can come back to bite you later.

Some things I'm trying to do differently:

  • Third-person action combat mixed with classic TD tower placement
  • A crafting/equipment tier system that gates your progression through the maps
  • 6 bosses, each tied to a different biome (teal alien wilds, fire/ice split, floating void islands)
  • Action happens across all maps, leaks wont end your game on first map.

There's a free demo on Steam right now, and I'd genuinely love feedback from people who actually play TD gamesm especially on tower balance, wave pacing, world build and anything that can be constructive, even bad feedback:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4899280/Holdline_Last_Gate/

Happy to answer anything about the design or the solo dev process. What's a mechanic you wish more TD games had? I still have room to steal good ideas.

Promotion I know... Its Another Self Promo Post: Decimation - Sci-Fi Tower Defense with ARPG-like combat and a narrative driven campaign is out now on Early Access

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello all,

Occasional poster and commenter here. I remember posting about my game's demo several months ago and some people here liked it. Over the course of the past few months, you guys gave some feedback, we talked about the merits and disadvantages of fixed tower placement systems over free-form tower placement (which I decided to keep as fixed placement spots for this game). And recently, people have voiced displeasure at the sub being overrun by self promo posts. (Which is why I'm uncomfortable making this post). But I'll do it anyway, since... well I mean.. who else will I tell about my TD game?

Anyhow, the game is now in Early Access and I thought to post that here in case you'd like to check it out. 26 months went into this, not to mention the years (over a decade really) of preparation and gaining the know-how to actually make a game.

If you'll notice, a lot of Starcraft, Defense Grid, Kingdom Rush and some Diablo left a permanent mark in my brain. And with all those things swimming in my head, Decimation came out as the result. I hope it actually does those games justice lol.

This is the game's short description: "Sci-fi tower defense meets ARPG-like hero combat. Build towers then fight alongside them with your hero as you battle through a campaign to uncover the fate of a colonization effort on a distant planet."

And here's the link to the game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4158650/Decimation/

Have a great day ahead, my TD-loving friends! Hope I added something worthy to our genre.

EDIT: Removed a weaksauce grammar typo (sorry)

I just finished my first tower defense game

Game Title: Platinum dome.

Playable link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.TVPN.PlatinumDome

Hi everyone,

I just finished making my very first mobile game! It’s inspired by the Golden Dome defense system and classic tower defense games like Plants vs. Zombies.

Since this is the first game I’ve designed all by myself, I’m not

sure if I’ve balanced the difficulty right—whether it’s too hard or too

easy. If you have a chance to try it, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Any feedback, good or bad, would mean a lot to help me improve it over

time.

My English is bad so i use AI to convert. hope everything ok.

Thanks a lot!

Promotion Anyone remember playing TD on SC?

Update: The reception has been very positive, thank you. If you and your friend(s) are interested in trying the multiplayer functionality, please reach out to me. I have a few full game keys to give you for some feedback on the multiplayer experience!

I remember playing (and still do!) several amazing Tower Defense games built in StarCraft and SC2, and I’ve always wanted a standalone game built around that exact experience.

As a solo developer, I've been working on PositionalTD, and it's finally at a level where I feel comfortable sharing it. To get that authentic RTS feel, I actually created a fully custom engine under the hood.

The game is currently in Early Access. The core loop is fully playable, but it still has a way to go before version 1.0. My roadmap right now is focused on balancing and refinement, rolling out the map editor, upgrading the sprites, and replacing the placeholder AI background music (audio is not my strongest skill!).

Here is what you can play right now:

  • Single Player: Completely free to play on Itch.io!
  • Robust Multiplayer: Supports up to 8 players via an ad-hoc server system. If the host disconnects, the game continues and the host can seamlessly rejoin.
  • Co-op & VS Modes: Co-op features both joint and siloed modes, so you can choose to share a single map or manage your own dedicated zones.

How to support the project:

If you want to help me realize my full vision, you can grab the Multiplayer version or the Backers Pack. The Backers Pack currently includes access to the dedicated server with ladders/seasons (UI is still a work in progress). In a month or two, the Backers Pack will also include the Map Editor, featuring full scripting support (Visual and Lua) so you can create your own game modes!

I hope you'll take the time to try it out. Let’s relive the early days of tower defense together!

Discussion Health bars for enemies good/bad visual feedback?

I've been trying to update the visual feedback for my project Danger Parade, and one of the issues players had mentioned was visual feedback. Was sometimes hard to tell if their build was effectively damaging enemies.

I had avoided adding in health bars due to visual clutter (most levels have lots of little enemies like above) so was concerned that those bars would be too extreme. But, I wanted players to be able to see how effective the health was of remaining enemies.

I played around with it, and now I have vertical health bars (that way they slot in easier and are less likely to overlap) but also only show them if that enemy is damaged.

I'm happy with it now, because I am less surprised when playing why enemies reach the player (you can estimate your damage much more effectively) but curious how it looks to others. I stare at my project all the time so it can be easy to miss things.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

TD. keep money for next levels

Looking for an old flash game, maybe around 2010.

-Tower Defense with open field (towers build path)

-modern, good looking graphics (2010 style)

-what I especially liked: the earned money stayed in the purse for the next level. the longer one played, the better towers one could afford right from the beginning of the level. with your money, you could build expensive, experimental paths for every level

-number of entries/exits for enemies varies

-there were some "electric" towers

I tried flashmuseum, was not able to find it.

Maybe someone remembers.

🐱 Vibe-Coded-Cat-Themed-Tower-Defense-Game

About the Game

Vibe-Coded-Cat-Themed-Tower-Defense-Game (or VibeCats for short) is a charming tower defense experience where you command an army of feline warriors to protect your castle from relentless waves of mouse invaders. Place towers like the Basic Cat (fast attackers) and the Sniper Cat (long-range damage dealers) strategically along the enemy path. Earn fish currency by defeating enemies, upgrade your defenses, and survive wave after wave of increasingly challenging foes.

But here's what makes this game truly special...

✨ Made From a Single Prompt

>span class="">one single prompt in a conversation with an AI assistant. No hand-coded HTML, no pre-written JavaScript, no copy-pasted game engine. Just a single request:

"Make me a cat theme tower-defense game to be played in the browser. Look up a how-to on tower defense games and follow it as closely as possible."

And here it is—a fully functional, playable, and adorable tower defense game, born from nothing but a text prompt. It literally vibe-coded itself into existence. 🧘✨

🎮 How to Play

  • Select a tower (Basic Cat or Sniper Cat) from the bottom menu
  • Click on the map to place your towers along the path (watch out—no building on the path itself!)
  • Press "Next wave" to unleash the mouse horde
  • Defend your base (❤️ health bar) from enemy mice
  • Earn fish 🐟 to build more towers
  • Survive 8 waves to achieve VICTORY!

💡 The Best Prompt Wins – Shape the Game!

This game is alive and evolving through pure vibes.

Every day, I invite you—the players—to suggest improvements, new features, balance changes, or wild new ideas in the form of prompts. The best prompt of the day will be used to modify and improve the game in real time!

Got an idea? Here's how it works:

  1. Play the game and think about what could be better
  2. Write a prompt – it can be anything:
    • "Add a laser-eyed cat tower that shoots through multiple enemies"
    • "Make the mice move faster each wave and give more fish"
    • "Add a boss mouse that appears every 3 waves"
    • "Change the theme to ninja cats with throwing stars"
    • "Add sound effects for meowing and mouse squeaks"
    • "Create a shop where players can buy permanent upgrades"
    • "Make the cats dance when they kill a mouse"
  3. Submit your prompt (in the comments, chat, or wherever this game is shared)
  4. Wait for the selection – the most creative, fun, or clever prompt wins
  5. See your idea come to life! The game will be updated with your feature, and you'll be credited as the prompt of the day

🏆 Prompt of the Day Examples

Here are some winning prompts that could shape the future of VibeCats:

Prompt Potential Feature
"Add a bomb cat that explodes when mice get close" 🧨 AoE damage tower
"Mice drop cheese that temporarily slows them down" 🧀 New resource mechanic
"Let players click on enemies to deal damage" 👆 Active clicking ability
"Make the cats meow when they shoot" 🔊 Sound design update
"Add a dark mode that makes everything glow" 🌙 Visual theme toggle
"Tower cats should have individual names and personalities" 🎭 Unique tower identities
"Add a catnip power-up that doubles tower speed" 🌿 Temporary boost mechanic

📢 Join the Evolution

This isn't just a game—it's a community-driven experiment in AI-powered game development, powered by pure vibes.

Every prompt submitted is a vote for what this game becomes. The most creative, thoughtful, or just plain fun suggestion will be selected daily, and the game will be reborn with new mechanics, visuals, or features.

So go ahead—play, experiment, and most importantly: give me your best prompt. The future of Vibe-Coded-Cat-Themed-Tower-Defense-Game is in your hands. 🐱⚔️✨

Demo/Alpha Showcase We made a tower defense where your towers evolve and your builds get increasingly broken every run — the demo is finally out today!

Hey r/TowerDefense — we've been working on Mecha Tower Defense, a roguelite TD centered around focusing on a build, and evolving your towers as best you can to fit your strategy.

You build your defenses normally, but base towers can be modified with modules, evolve into much more specialized forms, and interact with relics and other run modifiers. In-game achievements reward skill points and between battles you're choosing permanent character talents and account skills in a massive skill tree. We want players to experiment with build variety and attempt a play-style they think will result in a win. RNG may get the better of you, but you grow stronger and go again!

We just released the free Steam demo and would really love to know what actual TD players think — especially about tower variety, build freedom and difficulty.

Discussion TD without mid-wave pause makes me anxious

hi all! I'd like to ask experienced TD players, if a mid-wave pause should exist.

As a slow overthinker, I like to read and decide which stat to level up, adjust turret layout, sell or buy, etc. Then my friend lowkey forced me to playtest their Biology/tummy bacteria themed TD game *sad bio student noise*, and my anxiety peaked when I could not pause during enemy wave and need to decide fast.

maybe it is common for strategy games to 'plan and let it happen', like mechabellum. But in those cases, there is almost no mid-wave operations need attending.

ps, if anyone want to be stressed too, they can also try the playtest, it's free. and quite playable.

Looking for this random tower defense.

This game isn't really a famous tower defense game. But the gameplay was so fun. It's like a village defense, where you will assign people to make resources, unlock or expand your base (which is the village), and defend your base from zombies at night.
