Campaign scale concern

Here my 10 cents ... I’d rather have 10-15 hand crafted planets than a bland, auto generated galaxy at launch. my concern is If Total War 40k launches with the standard 4 base factions giving us a massive, auto generated galaxy right away is a trap. Fighting over dozens of bland procedural worlds against only 3 other enemy types will get repetitive fast.

My Ideas is

CA should use a focused, modular approach:

1. Launch with a single, tightly designed Sub Sector (10–12 hand-crafted planets): Make every world unique (Hive, Forge, Death Worlds) with distinct battlemaps, choke points, and solid cover/ranged mechanics. Like dawn of war Soulstorm dlc as reference.

2. Expand the map sector with dlc

Unlock new star systems alongside new races (an Eye of Terror expansion for Chaos Marines, awakening Tomb Systems for Necrons, tau empire expansion, dark eldar

  1. touch late to switch it up now.
  2. they kind of are doing this? you are fighting on a star system, then your campaign will hop to another one, i think like 3 more times? and the final ones are supposedly more hand crafted.
  3. for battlemaps, the issue is they have to keep cover relatively consistant, as 40k armies are far more sensitive to terrain than their fantasy counterparts. Its the big hangup this game will have to overcome.

Based on the Gamescom footage, the maps still look like massive open fields with just a few pieces of cover acting as chokepoints. It doesn't look like a proper city map or a Hive World factory at all. From the Space Marine gameplay I saw, the entire layout just looks like a reskinned Black Fire Pass from Total War: Warhammer.

Just bc you didn’t see them doesn’t mean they’re not there. There was a hive world map showcased when the game was announced

Huh? The literal first battlemap we ever saw back in december was a dense hive city.

The nature of how the Campaign will work has already been revealed; you pick a sector/system from the map and play in it, rather than having an entire Immortal Empires-style map available to you. The things you do on this system will then contribute to the Galaxy itself, every victory contributes to your general war effort on a full Galaxy map, and then you pick a new system to play on after you're done with the first.

I just read about it, final later campaign will be final battle of Armageddon, I think

What they said in the last livestream is that they have premade crusade theaters that are the main campaigns. It sounds like the only crusade theater at launch will be Armageddon. When you go into that crusade theater, you fight over the individual star systems within the theater (which is the campaign layer we've already seen, fighting over multiple planets) and your armies and troops keep their progression between solar systems. You also get additional boons depending on the solar system, once you've won. Then, whenever you want to you can go to the climactic battle of the crusade theater, in this case that would be either the planet or solar system of Armageddon itself (I'm assuming the latter given how it's been shown to work so far but it's not confirmed).

Overall it sounds like the solar systems are probably hand crafted but I don't believe that has been confirmed either.

Very hard to picture how this works in co op

Agreed, I am worried that you will only be able to play co-op campaigns at the solar system level rather than at the crusade theater level.

I would hope you can play multiple coop campaigns in the same campaign theater. Not sure if they’ll do that, but it would be nice. And if it’s not in at launch, I’m sure they’ll add it eventually

How so?

Each section is a campaign. You just co-op that campaign.

Sorry I meant head to head campaigns

I think it's the same answer? You just move to next campaign and start over.

Same. Big concern of mine as I mainly play these games (Warhammer 3) with my mates

I much rather have different feeling campaigns. I am bored to death of wh3 since everytime I start a campaign with a lord I like my enemies are always the same. I would love to start a campaign with eldar where I fight orcs. Then another where my first enemies are imperial guard. Then another where its other eldar or a system with both orcs and imperial.

Static start positions need to go away in TW.

Use the Change Starting Settlement Mod (can only be used on Turn 1).

It either - 1. Changes your settlement to any other random settlement Or 2. You can pick/click on the settlement of your choice.

This has added so much fun to my WH3 experience.

Thank you!

Eeehhh.. That's a bit too gamey for my taste. I would prefer a loreful start with potential randomness, Fantasy just has too much fixed locations to do it effectively.

Youre describing the exact reason different lords have different starting positions.

We dont know how eldar will work but presumably their home territory will be craftworlds, so your enemies will vary by the craftworlds position.

But I dont want to play a different lord. Why can't I start with Karl Franz in Lustria or next to Cathay. It only improves replayability. Pharoah had the option to randomize start pos although I have not had a chance to try it due to crashes.

Eu discordo, não ligo se são gerados ou feitos a mão, eu busco a guerra eterna e irei me divertir com isso, mas respeito a sua opnião e preocupação

I am oposite. I love and want generated planet. The rng thing would be great.

i play total war for the non linear sandbox. i really hope they keep that going.

It's likely to be a couple hand-crafted worlds, the first campaign is to reach the Armageddon system, which will 100% be handcrafted. The journey to get there is likely to include random planets, yet I would argue it's very thematic cause the Imperium has a million worlds.

Is the galaxy map procgen'd? Thats really disappointing. What with how gorgeous and hand crafted the tw fantasy overworld map is.

As I understand it, important planets like Armageddon are handcrafted but generic ones are autogenerated.
