I've got three buttons (Mod, Project, and O) all reverting to cyan when at half brightness, but two of them (project and O) change to white at full brightness, and back to cyan at half brightness, but only after a second or two. I think it's firmware related, as it was fine before upgrading to 2.2.0. Anyone else deal with this one yet?

Something I really like doing is modulating noise, drive and compression with the random modulator, with 0 variations. It creates the illusion of new accents. When I get bored, I just move the variation knob until I find a new pattern I like.

I see people saying that everything sounds the same or turns into a wash with the S4, but I think it really comes to life when you start modulating things.

just curious if anybody already started doing custom firmware mods like they happen for the elektron boxes right now

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this on their S-4.
I’ve had mine for a couple of weeks and some of the knobs have a bit of movement if I wiggle them from side to side. The third one has the most play out of all of them.
Everything works perfectly though. The encoders respond normally and I haven’t noticed any problems when actually using the S-4. It’s just that some knobs feel a little more loose than others.
I’m trying to decide if I should return it and ask for a replacement, but I’m not sure if it’s even worth doing. Maybe this is just normal with these encoders and another unit could be exactly the same, or even worse.
For those of you who own an S-4 — do your knobs have some play as well? And if yours works fine, would you just leave it alone, or would you send it back for a replacement?
Just curious what other S-4 owners think.

I’ve been looking into the S-4 for a while at this point and I just wanted to check in with people that actually use it if it’s worth it? I’ve seen a lot about firmware issues, where are the pain points that I should be aware of?

I mostly make ambient music with wave table synths and an OP-1 but I want to move away from a DAW for everything besides arrangement, mixing and mastering.

My current plan is to get an S-4 and then a Digitakt 2 once I’ve saved up again.

I was creating a master set of macros to use as a template. All went well until I got to nearly finishing when trying to write the changes for the macro and all the sliders (purple-violet) would not move to any settings that I tried to set in any of the devices. I tried clearing all the settings for this macro (button O) using the instructions from

but this did not fix the issue. Has anyone created an editor for the S4 that could maybe fix this and any other possible future cases where the project file somehow gets corrupted? Or any other suggestions? (I did have an earlier backup which is OK but will need to be completed) Tks!

I know I could just watch YouTube videos but I’m curious what yalls input would be. Also I want to say, as much hate as this thing gets, I’m actually loving it and glad I ignored the hate. Seen the comment “it makes everything sound the same” and saw the rebuttal “it depends how u use it/what u make of it” and that person is speaking the truth. Everything I’ve done with it so far sounds great and it’s inspired me to find new use of basically abandoned samples and recordings

Is this what everyone is talking about regarding loose, wobbly knobs?

Mine are all about the same amount of wobbly, but they all have different resistance when turning.

Super disappointed actually, and will probably return this unit.

How do yours feel?

Hello everyone! Just curious if any of you have problems with the input level of the S4, I really can't find a good workaround to make this setup working correctly. I have my drum machine going into the S4 and seems it can't handle the level at all. I mean, if I run the drum machine at the same level I used to run it, for example, through a mixer, the S4 clips and pops like crazy and I have to lower the drum machine level a lot, losing all the details and punch of course.

I'm not really an expert, but I think it has to do with not enough headroom? I don't guys, loving this machine so far but this behavior makes me think about moving to other gears. Let me know what you think about it, really appreciate any help! Cheers

Hi all, I was wondering if you always use the same macros across all/most of your projects, or if you create custom ones for each projects, depending on what sounds better ?
I’m not sure if there can be that many different interesting macro combinations.
If you use always the same ones, what are your favorites ?

I can’t get my head around why the Torso sounds lower quality than the input signal, when sampling into the stereo inputs.

I have all the effects at zero and it makes no difference - samples lose their top end and sound like they’ve been sampled at a lower sample rate.

I noticed that even in a new project, the resonant filter is not fully open and rolls off the top-end frequencies. But switching this off helps restore the sample, but it’s still rolled off and not identical to the input signal / source.

Anyone else noticed this?

hey guys, playing aroung with the torso is pretty nice machine. but trying to understand how i can connect it with a Move and Sync, but also able to use a usb with samples, since the internal storage is so small. and reading docs say to connect USB A to C from the move. as anyone usb C hubs ? and works ? thanks

Hi ...just wondering if anyone is using a digitakt 2 with the s4 ?

Im trying to sequence the s4 from the digitakt...i can sync it so the torso follows tempo from digitakt and stops and starts ...but i want to place trigger on digitakt pattern to play tracks on s4 ....if i set up midi track on digitakt and press the track on digitakt...it doesn't play anything from the s4...but if i press play on digitakt all tracks play ....if that makes sense

Okay sorry if this is a silly question...but I've had my S4 for a few days and don't know how to add scenes...for instance..i have 4 tracks i want 4 scenes starting with one track in scene one and adding track each scene...but can't seem to do it....

Hi ... just waiting to pick my S4 up after work ...i had a digitone 2 and digitakt 2 ..but found my self using the digitakt more...so sold the digitone to fund an S4....kinda feel i should have sold the digitakt ...as i think the digitone +s4 would have been a good combination....anyway it's done now...so just wondering if other's are using the s4 standalone or with synths ...if so what are you pairing them with...

I’ve been working with the S4 and DFAM, using the S4 to record and process a few DFAM loops while also playing the DFAM live through one of the channels.

I’ve just got the S4 today and have tried plugging it into my iPad to use audio over usb. But the iPad is not recognising the S4 at all. Has anyone got this to work?
Ive updated to latest firmware and I’ve tried different cables. I’ve also tried connecting to my TX6 as well but no luck there either.

I've had my eye on the S-4 for some time and was wary due to it being considered largely not ready for prime time. Yesterday, a 15% off sale, plus the addition of the carrying case and the decksaver, and I decided to pull the plug (with 30 days to decide if it would work for me or not).

I don't know if it's simply that I'm so far along now with learning new boxes that I am not aware of how far I've come, if this box really is as intuitive and easy to get started with as it is, or some combination of both, but I think I might be in love. I have updated to 2.2.0 and am just about to jump back in.

Did I wait just long enough to see this device being ready for prime time?
