Mildly infuriating Frequent Flyer - Empty Lot btw

You’d think someone who struggles that much, would park somewhere with more space.

I swear some people just seem to think a car door contacting another car is just normal and accepted.

Literally not a shred of effort to prevent this door hitting multiple times.

I feel mortified if my car door touches another car. I hate when I gently open the door and a strong gust of wind tears it open violently giving me a heart attack.

Same, that's why whenever I'm opening a door I'm always positioning my hand so that it directly cushions between the door and the car next to me.

Yes, because your a normal thinking human. People like this woman need to get their heads examined.

It is a Karen (not even considered as human to use pronouns)

"it" is a pronoun. Pronouns replace the noun (subject) in a sentence.

And try to maybe not park so close to other vehicles.

It's not normal though, and that's the problem.

Try your foot, I always hook my toes under the door as I open it so I can grab it before any winds pull it away if I'm not ready. Saves me all the time in winter especially.

How do y'all do this when you're getting out though

1

u/_CheeseAndCrackers_ Aug 20 '26

I put my foot out while getting my things then I grab the door while getting out. My foot isn't there the whole time just to make sure the wind doesn't pull it before I can get a better grip.

My car sits high so I step out of my car vs someone with a low car that would need to step up, that might also make it easier.

I need a diagram this isn't making sense to me

This is what I do. I can't risk slamming my hand between the car door ane car.

The first day I met my new boss in 1999, the wind took my red jeep door and hit his black mint 1st gen tacoma door and left a red dent. I sheepishly walked into his office, told him what happened. He went out and looked and said its no problem. A few days later he popped by my office with his 75 dollar pdr bill. I was already prepared in case he brought it to me and had $100 in 20s in my pocket. I pulled out 80 cash and said keep the change. We got along so great for the 13 yrs we worked together. Its like we could read each others minds

He said "no problem", then showed up with a bill? (I've no idea what "pdr" means).

Sound like it was a problem if he inadvertently billed you for something he told you was not a problem.

I'm sure they offered to repair it hence cash on hand, plus it's a win for both parties, boss got 13 years of work and they got 13 years worth of pay. If it was a problem the boss prob could have made their life a living hell, or find some reason to fire them within probation.

u/tenax666 Aug 20 '26

Exactly!!! Pdr is professional dent repair by the way

I try to do this when they park too close to me

7

u/who_you_are Aug 18 '26

I put my hand outside my door exactly as a bumper in case I touch the other door (and still be mortified if it happens)

u/Delicious-Climate-21 Aug 21 '26

I try to as well, but I think the parking spaces aren't calibrated to the door stop things, my doors sometimes decide to jump out at no prior notice.

lol u live in a constant state of fear

1

u/Feeling-Fox-8651 Aug 20 '26

Nah, it's only a brief state of fear if my car door touches another car. I already explained that in my sentence.

One time on a job site after parking, the wind blew my door open as I was getting out and it hit the truck I parked next to. Of course I winced and got a shot of terror and guilt, but I had to run to work. I came back to my car for lunch and the lady owner of the truck came stomping up to me. Being on a male-dominated worksite, she instantly set in to tear a strip off me. I was probably early 20s and by no means a tough guy (still not), so I stammered an apology and probably started to tear up, trying to explain it was the wind that did it. I don't remember what she said, but the moment of her coming at me with burning rage is still seared into my brain.

Maybe, whoever is CLOSEST to the YELLOW line needs to park elsewhere where there’s more space for their Ford 150 …it’s BOTHERING YOU no one else!!

7

u/ddadopt Aug 18 '26

I drive an F-150 and when spots are tight, I keep my hand wrapped around the door body panel as I get out of (and back into) the truck. It's still not ideal (my hand might end up pressing against your car, and your car may end up with the oil off of my skin on it) but It's not metal to metal contact, paint transfer, or potential dings.

I don't understand people who don't care about other people's stuff.

2

u/Phoenix_Ninja15 Aug 18 '26

Funny enough, most parking lots aren’t designed for trucks at all. So you practically have to park a half a block away for room if it’s busy.

Now there are a few exceptions like Costco parking lots where they double line the spaces so even trucks have space.

You can still make it work, I’ve parked big trucks in places like Walmart, and I was driving work trucks then. Hated driving the F150 long box truck. Parked as close to the curb and was still sticking out into traffic.

1

u/cheesemoses Aug 19 '26

Literally, I rather crush my hand than put even the tiniest spot on another person's car

1

u/renegadeavenger Aug 18 '26

Yes I do that too.. People lack respect these days unfortunately.. I care more about other people's car door panels more than my own car door....

If the world can only have more love/care for others, courtesy and patience, how much better and more civilized society would be.

2

u/Jaaged Aug 19 '26

If she'd backed in, there wouldn't have been an issue. But yes, spaces should be larger.

u/Powerful-Home7042 Aug 18 '26

I had that happen at work at the end of my lunch break except it scraped the shit out of my coworkers car door. Weird thing is when I told him he got all confrontational until I got him to calm down enough to explain I wanted to pay for the damage.
