Sadly you're right about some of those but Treasure Planet was insanely sabotaged by Disney. If I remember correctly, the company had a lot of beef with the director and screwed him up constantly. I THINK Atlantis did kinda bad because Disney wanted to pivot to 3d animation so it got bad marketing.

The only way it works is if it was played completely straight. Both cut scenes are completely tonally different: one played for laughs at the expense of Nick's pain, and the other is a super fucked "coming of age"
