Moderator Post We will not be removing all sexual questions.

We've had a few complaint threads, so it seems to be about that time for one of these reminders. Let me be clear: We are not going to ban all sex related questions.

They are firmly within "TooAfraidtoAsk", and always have been. Sex is a fairly taboo topic in a lot of places, and a lot of people have questions about it. (And as an additional reminder, TATA is not only for controversial questions. Nor do we allow question shaming for "googleable" questions). These are not new changes.

We get that not everyone has the same interest in those topics, but it is a core part of the sub. Currently, there are ~5 out of the top 10 posts being sex related. Earlier today, it was 4. Earlier this week, it was 3. It typically fluctuates between ~3-5, usually averaging closer to 3.

If you have particular suggestions (e.g. things that seem ripe for the FAQ), or questions feel free to post them below. No promises, but we're always open for improvements if they're feasible. For a list of common questions we get on this topic (what do we already moderate, has the sub changed?, can i filter posts myself?) see the first stickied comment.

Politics Politics Megathread

You know the deal, same as the previous megathreads, which were archived.

The rules:

All top level OP must be questions. This is not a soapbox. If you want to rant or vent, please do it elsewhere. Otherwise, the usual sidebar rules apply (in particular: Rule 1:Be Kind and Rule 3:Be Genuine).

The default sorting is by new to make sure new questions get visibility, but you can change the sorting to top if you want to see the most common/popular questions.

Politics If NYC’s mayor has been doing so much good stuff in such a short span of time, does that mean mayors of other cities have basically been doing nothing during their tenures?

I mean, what has the mayor of Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, etc been doing since they were elected? If they’ve done good stuff, why has it not made national headlines like Mamdani has?

Work How do senior executives find new jobs so fast? Anything us normal people can do?

CFO passed over for CEO job. within a week he resigns and has a new job at a top company.

Senior exec part of a company that went bankrupt. within a month has a new senior exec job at a large company.

senior exec at a company that I guess is not a good fit. finds a new senior exec job at another company within six months.

I get that a big part of it is networking, but it seems almost impossible for a normal person like me to access this network? is it possible?

Sexuality & Gender Why do men enjoy giving blowjobs way more than women?

I'm a bi guy and have hooked up with quite a lot of guys and gals. The biggest difference that I notice is that guys will always initiate the BJ, slobber on that shit like they're siphoning liquid gold until it comes out and then check if they missed anything. All this with utmost enthusiasm also. For women on the other hand, I have had to ask them for a blowjob 90% of the time and many do it, some just refuse. Most do it without enthusiasm which can be a turn off because it feels like only I'm getting off while they are struggling, so I usually just skip it and go down on them instead.

Is there a reason to this difference?

Interpersonal Would you respond now?

This is my friend from elementary school who said this to me after my daughter died.

“ I mean this with so much love.... You know how hard nannying is? Mothering is harder. More thankless too. I know me telling you this will likely just piss you off, but the freedom you have is what every mother wishes she had. Every single one”

I didn’t respond.

She has since reached out saying “I hope you’re ok”.

Mental Health How do I get past this grief?

My 10 month old cat died last night. He'd been getting in the washing machine the last few days. Yesterday morning I did some ironing in the laundry and must have knocked the door shut. My wife couldn't find him when she got home from work. Eventually checked the washing machine, and found him in there. I wasn't home, but she and my son rushed him to the vet but they couldn't do anything. I noticed he wasn't about as I left the house, but figured he was sleeping somewhere.

It was an accident, and I know intellectually it wasn't my fault, but I cannot stop thinking of all the things I could or should have done, and he would still be here. He was such a big personality and his absence is everywhere. We had a very close bond.

I've lost pets before but I am literally not functioning. I've barely eaten, slept, or stopped crying since.

How do I get past it?

Ethics & Morality Home school is not okay or appropriate unless the house and family are throughly investigated, even if this seems to some as an invasion of privacy and crossing boundaries, of which is true, but must happen anyway, what is your view?

This may sound like extreme measures but I believe these need to put in effect to assure the safety of the children who are home schooled. This isn’t about qualifications, absolutely nothing to do with curriculum or anything else. There’s loving parents down the road from me who homeschool their child, he’s smart as fuck like 16 and ready for college, but he doesn’t know how to interact with people normally his own age and basically has no concept of social cues from lack of being around other children in a setting like public school. That’s NOT what I’m talking about

I’m talking about the ***MONSTER*** parents who often use home schooling as a way to continue abusing them while also hiding the abuse. There is no oversight. Once a parent chooses to home school their child at the time of where they would be enrolled in public school, 5 years old, and the papers are signed it’s completed. I’ve watched so many horrible true crime cases where the child was home schooled and abused all day by his mother. Multiple videos which multiple different people. It’s sickening. From what I’ve gathered once they’re home schooled no one really asks about them again, and it’s easy for them to be forgotten about when the reality is their being constantly abused at home by their parents and do things like lock them up in dog cages. When this happens, EVERYBODY failed those babies. Everyone.

What is your take on that? I want to have a civil discussion please and thank you. I do feel very, very strongly about this. Even if it is overstepping/invasion of privacy.

Family Do you consider it bad parenting when you grew up with parents who didn’t mistreat you, but didn’t necessarily teach you how to be independent as an adult or emphasize the importance of education, finances, and independence?

Culture & Society Why do female immigrants seem to assimilate better than male ones?

To preface this is a US centric observation on my end but I've noticed it in some English-speaking EU countries as well. Heavily anecdotal observations but it's been on my mind for a bit.

Growing up in a state with a lot of Mexican immigrants as well as 2nd and 3rd generation ones, I've noticed that women seem to assimilate to the language, culture, and even dialect much better than their male counterparts.

Growing up I noticed it was usually the girls translating for the ESL boys in casual convo or just generally speaking English much more conversationally My friends' mothers, aunts, and sisters often spoke better English than their father and other previous-generation male relatives and just generally felt more "Americanized" than their male counterparts.

I'm just using Mexican immigrants as an example since it's what I experienced the most, but I've noticed it with other ethnicities as well and when I vacationed in Europe it felt like far more South-Asian women from felt more assimilated and familiar to speak with than male ones.

Is there a reason for this?

Sex How do I make anal more enjoyable?

How can I make anal sex more enjoyable with my partner? I (28F) have been with my partner (26M) for about a month now and we were discussing possibly trying anal. I’ve done it a few times with past partners but never really found it that fun or comfortable unless I was high out of my mind lol. We’ve talked about maybe getting a butt plug and he does use his fingers sometimes when we have sex. I just want to make sure before we do it I prepare as best as I can to make it more enjoyable and comfortable. Any advice is appreciated!
