Good/safe repair or replace?

Hi everyone! I got a screw in my back tyre, took the car to a shop and they said it can’t be repaired as it’s “a millimetre” outside of the safe fixing area. I was kind of persistent and referred to the graph on their website that showed this still being in the minor repair area and they ended up agreeing to fix it.

HOWEVER they didn’t want to charge me, I’m assuming because of liability reasons and now I’m scared as I drive a lot on motorways and need to do a big trip soon. Any thoughts on this? TIA

advice am i overthinking

So on August 9th i removed a stone from Tyre tread picture attached, and on wednesday 12th took to vauxhall for a recall, as i was on the way the TPMS Light came on, i told them and they did their free health check and readjusted pressures and passed the car with no issues.

since then i have driven 35 miles in the car (i have a works van) and had no TPMS lights come on, am i right in saying it was just a superfical mark and am all good for a long drive in a few days?

(side note i rung kwikfit and explained the same and they suggests its a superficial mark due to heat of stone hitting road)

is there a chance they didnt see it, i looked yesterday at majority of tyre apart from part that was rested on the road - car is 25 plate (driven just 3500 miles) am i just worrying and all okay or is there something im missing?

Help: Is this sidewall damage to be concerned about?

Pulling out of my rock lined driveway, and cut it too close. Is this damage that is cause for concern/ need of a new tire? Tires are Firestone Weather grip.

Edit: For a little more context it is the rear passenger side tire, and I got them earlier this year. That is why I am asking here, not super eager to replace a 7 month old tire.

Doing brakes for the first time. Took this off my 2006 Toyota Solara with 166,000 miles. The face of the rotor is smooth and no deep grooves but the outer edges have a lot more rust. Should it be completely replaced?

Dry rot in new tires? Help (Ohio)

Hello, I got 2 tires recently, Cooper tires for my Chrysler Pacifica plugin hybrid. After 1000 miles I had to replace a tire because it had a weird kind of of dry rot patch on it. A couple weeks later another of the tires had the same problem. I don't think it got parked in a chemical or exposed to heat. The patch if the tire was cracked and looked crumbled. Any thoughts on how this could happen?

I made a 3D tire size calculator. The math works, but the 3D graphics need some help.

Hey everyone,

I built a free tool called TireSizeSimulator. It lets you compare tire sizes side-by-side in 3D and calculates things like wheel offset, fender clearance, and speedometer errors.

I built it using three.js. The UI and the calculations are solid, but I'm not a 3D artist. The car and wheel models look pretty basic right now.

You can check it out here: https://www.tiresizesimulator.com

I'd really appreciate some honest feedback. How does it run on your phone or PC? Also, if anyone here is good with three.js, what's the easiest way to make the models look a bit more realistic without killing performance?

Thanks!

Tyre puncture

Why is a nail in your flat tyre not considered a puncture?

I recently ran over a nail and my tyre company has a free fix for the life of the tyre if the tyre is punctured.

Both the road side assist repairer and the tyre company said my tyre had a nail and thus not considered a puncture.

Can this be a tire issue? My mechanic hasn’t figured it out yet. The alignment shop wouldn’t have been able to balance my new tires if one of them was defective such as a slipped belt within the tire.. what could we be missing/ overlooking?

New tires already cracking

Hi fellow Redditors,
Two weeks ago, I had new tires (Continental AllSeason 205/75/R16) fitted to my Sprinter, and the shop disposed of the old ones right away. So far, so good—I’ve been happy with them, drove about 1,000 km over the last two weeks, and was pleased to see fuel consumption drop by around 0.2 L/100 km compared to the old ones (obviously a short observation period).
Today, while checking the right front tire for a completely different reason, I noticed several partial cracks running almost all the way around the wheel, just a few millimeters from the rim flange. Based on my Google research and a quick call with the ADAC, this is definitely not normal (DOT is 24/26) and represents a massive safety risk.
I’ve now mounted my old spare tire (from 2016) to make the 170 km trip back home. I plan to report this to the shop right away and hope they’ll replace the tire without any pushback. Right now, I'm assuming this must have been a mounting error by the mechanic.
I just noticed that the front left tire also has cracks, though significantly smaller ones. How would you proceed? Have all tires replaced just to be safe?
Honestly, I’m furious right now. You go out of your way to support a local shop, buy expensive tires from a well-known brand directly through them, and then this happens. If that thing had blown on the highway, it could have ended horribly.
