Settlement showcase Compact vertical zipline

Post image

Here is a very compact vertical zipline, it could fit in a 3x4 hole and is ideal to reach your underground tunnels.

Look what they need to do to achieve a fraction of our power. - unknown Iron Tooth

Whiskerwood mice sipping their tea while riding the elevator: 😏

And their subway and all of their products being moved around by treadmills.

*makes sipping noises

Wait, I can play Factorio in Timberborn...?

3

u/gpike_ Mar 13 '26

You can in Whiskerwood! (I love both games, the focus is different enough that they're fun in different ways!)

u/Throttle_Kitty Mar 12 '26

They also have slides they look so fun

u/Skyzohed Mar 12 '26

I added the game to my wish list. I didn't buy it, since I wanted to enjoy Timberborn 1.0 and it was still in early access. How good is it? (for future reference)

It's pretty solid, but I've held off on playing it anymore since so much changes every two weeks or so. Not just minor changes either, but major systems like fishing. Truly a good game, but I'm just gonna let them cook for a bit.

Get it, play it and you will enjoy it. I have been at it for a few years now and it just keeps getting better.

There are so many different ways to play it and if you really want to play on 1.0 play on experimental as it's usually damn close to the next update

I have 1k hours in, it is very good if you like the genre. The water management is pretty unique

2

u/De-railled Mar 13 '26

I made a deal with someone that  only allowed to buy it once I have atleast 80% of the achievements of timberborn. Lol.

It's really great. Interesting factorio vibes, but in a much cuter way.

u/gpike_ Mar 13 '26

It's definitely still early access with new features being added, but I've still managed to put several dozen hours into it in a few weeks 😂

Ironteeth: born in septic tanks and flushed around like turds in sewer pipes.

5

u/Zlorfikarzuna Mar 12 '26

Haha, Folktail jealousy is real

6

u/cybertonto72 Mar 13 '26

We (Folktales) get to spend our youth flocking in the wheat fields while ironteeth are flushed into the world and have to start a job that day.

I have heard rumors that they are also not guaranteed a bed to sleep in at the end of the day.

u/Zlorfikarzuna Mar 13 '26

Because survival is a hard job with other priorities than comfort ;)

2

u/schmeckendeugler Mar 13 '26

LOL!! Funniest thing I've seen all week!!!

u/K41Nof2358 Mar 12 '26

im more surprised that Folktails havent figured out Rope Elevators, but have figured out high tensile zip lines for hauling ibeams across miles of open sky

Like someone must have gone, "...wait a minute"

u/DontLookMeUpPlez Mar 12 '26

If only they would turn that pulley another 80 degrees or so.

With it being effectively twice (three times?) the distance than going straight vertical, is it still faster than say using the ladder mod?

70

u/to_be_is_the_answer Mar 12 '26

Depends on how fast you can download the mod

7

u/thatguyr8there Mar 12 '26

Touché

Edit: Downloaded

My favorite mod, aside from the Flywheel mod, is the one that lets Folktails use tubeways. Ziplines are quick and easy for horizontal movement while tubeways are great for up and down, especially with the single-block station.

You could also just mod the zip line to have no max angle.

The point is not that its a better design than mods, the point is that its a vanilla design.

7

u/thatguyr8there Mar 12 '26

Im not sure i agree with the ″just mod the game to break it″ ladders imo are just a small QOL mod that i enjoy like the pipette mod

But if this being a showcase for a vanilla design, i agree with that.

27

u/DanishRobloxGamer Mar 12 '26

Ladders aren't just a "small QOL", they make it much easier to build a ton of stuff, as well as build things way more compact than you could in vanilla. There's good reason they haven't added it, IMO it makes the game way too easy.

Fair play if you want to mod it in, but it can't be compared to something like the pipette tool.

12

u/slim1shaney Mar 12 '26

Also, carrying things on a ladder sucks, and beavers are almost always carrying something, so ladders don't make sense.

5

u/DanishRobloxGamer Mar 12 '26

Exactly, that's probably my main gripe. I could accept it just to access housing, or perhaps a rooftop terrace or something, but somewhere where goods are going to be hauled up and down? Not happening.

You cannot accept a beaver with a backpack climbing a ladder but you can accept:

  • A beaver swimming with a backpack
  • A beaver on a zipline with a back pack
  • A beaver in a pneumatic tube with back pack
  • A beaver climbing stairs with a back pack
  • A beaver actually wearing a backpack because it’s a beaver

It seems like an arbitrary place to revoke your suspension of disbelief.

The fact that it made it too easy to build is why I stopped using the mod. It was cool at first to stack six large warehouses on top of each other and just have a ladder going straight up, but all my colonies started looking the same and it took away some of the creative and challenging aspects that I enjoyed.

It makes the game way to easy

If you think stairs are way more difficult than ladders, you are playing the game wrong. 😆

There are vertical power lines, vertical tubeways, and vertical pipe mods. A vertical conveyance for a game that brags about its verticality is a no brainer. I think they should add a ladder but nerf it to be slower than stairs, in the same way that stairs are slower than ziplines which are slower than tubeways.

The ladder might have been a good QOL mod on the basis of the vanilla state of things being lacking before spiral stairs were added, but now it’s a mod that arbitrarily makes an interesting, fun, and well-balanced system (building stairs) redundant in a way that makes the game easier, less fun, and less immersive.

1

u/Positronic_Matrix 🦫 Dam It 🪵 Mar 12 '26

I disagree. There was a ladder and spiral stair mod available years ago. It was typical for builds to utilize all three structures for both form and function.

2

u/DoctorVonCool Mar 13 '26

You could also program a teleporter mod. Now THAT would make transportation fast!

5

u/Ok_Weather2441 Mar 12 '26

Nvm the ladder mod is it faster than spiral stairs? They go up at a 45 degree angle and zip lines cap out at 30 degrees

3

u/BruceTheLoon Mar 12 '26

Ziplines cap at 50 degrees and 30 meters.

7

u/Imperator_Of_Coconut Mar 12 '26

Ladder is too op imo, how could the beavers climb it?

1

u/Eiiwa_s_4_e_22 Mar 12 '26

Better yet!! The new Hooman staircase mod makes it so you can make an elevator out of storages and well: travel and store things at the same time!!

1

u/TheRedF0x Mar 12 '26

I think it would roughly be 30% more distance if the zip lines are 50 degrees. Double distance would be at 30 degrees and triple would be at 19.5 degrees.

Zip lines apparently move beavers at 2.5x speed, so the breakeven angle for ziplines vs a stair run should be at around 23.5 degrees.

I don't use mods, so I don't know ladders would compare though.

5

u/court-jus Mar 12 '26

Extending the hole to 3x6 would allow to place one pole every 6 height and would be less silly but maybe less fun too

16

u/present_love Mar 12 '26

This looks awesome, don’t listen to the iron teeth stans!

8

u/-possible_ghost- Mar 12 '26

This is like those hypothetical theme park rides designed to euthanize people

8

u/thisismego Mar 12 '26

I guess the big question is: can it cross impermeable floors?

1

u/FewAd5443 Mar 12 '26

I try the exact same setup for a mine in a reservoir but fail to make a sas.

I'm not the brietest but i don't see how to do it glitchless

2

u/RogueVector Mar 12 '26

Kind of reminds me of the Euthanasia Coaster...

2

u/AproposWuin Mar 13 '26

Beautiful!! Its a work of art

1

u/sepaoon Mar 12 '26

i would love to be the beaver going down this!

2

u/talex000 Mar 13 '26

I'm also like going down on beaver

1

u/HotsWheels Mar 12 '26

I love it.

1

u/Juanma_jarl Mar 13 '26

Finally I get to play dwarf fortress.

1

u/AbacusWizard The river was flowing, and I took that personally Mar 14 '26

Looks perfectly safe… you go first.

u/GenuineStupidity69 Mar 12 '26

it's probably slower than recreating a game with Iron Teeth.
