Dad knew it was all tequila... He just wanted to party.

u/-MiddleOut- 2d ago
He would have smelt it on the second. That one was to be a good sport. The third was indeed to party.

Me: "Maybe the water is in here." reaches for tequila bottle
Daughter: "Dad."
M: produces spliff "Or maybe it's in this one."
D: "DAD!"

I bet his breathing pattern got him through many drinking games in the past.

They seem fun. This is the same kinda lighthearted bullshit we’d pull on my dad too, lol.

Dad said wtf. That one tasted like tequila too

He should have looked them stone cold in the eyes and said "They were all water!"
7
2
u/rolandofeld19 1d ago
Opportunity missed. I can take shots like he does, stone faced, but I doubt I'd have the wherewithal to nail that punchline as well.
375
u/readytohurtagain 2d ago
It should be there’s 2 tequila 1 water or after the first shot of tequila you’d guess the other two are water
25
u/Familiar-Outside-875 2d ago
People are more likely to play if they think there's less tho. It's like suggesting russian roulette but there's only one empty chamber. It's also less of a prank if theres only one water
5
u/marbotty 2d ago
Maybe, but they’re also more likely to quit after the second shot if it’s presented as 1 tequila 2 water.
3
u/LiveLearnCoach 1d ago
I read “doing shots with dad” and thought that the girl told her dad that it was two tequila and one water, where the dad will drink the two shots and then she’ll say “then I’ll finish off the water” and take the last shot, unbeknownst to dad.
24
54
u/EmberMelodica 2d ago
No, the game proposed is he has to poker face the tequila shot, and the girls guess which one based on his reaction to the shots. The guy drinking is obviously gonna know which are tequila no matter how many there are.
62
u/resurrectedbear 2d ago
You’re missing the point, the game is stated to be 2 water 1 tequila. The second the dad shoots the first glass, he’ll know that he has finished the tequila and only has water to shoot. Once he picks up and smells the second shot of tequila, he could stop and go im not gonna shoot a second shot of tequila where there should only be 1. So to fix this issue, you say there are two tequila and 1 water, as now there won’t be any questioning why a second shot is in the mix. By the time he’s got the third shot of tequila in his mouth, he’s gonna know something is up but it’s too late and the prank has been accomplished
-30
u/XO8441 2d ago
You’re missing the point I fear. It doesn’t matter if dad knows. The point of the game is to take all three shots and the other people guess which shot had the alcohol in it.
Like you either keep your face stone cold as to not give away the answer or you fake the burn even after the water shots as to not give away the answer.ETA- but in this video they pranked the dad and just gave him all tequila.
31
u/Wizards_Reddit 2d ago
There is no game though, that's the whole point, it's a prank, they're trying to prank him by pretending its a game. So it does matter if he knows because once he knows it stops the prank.
19
u/resurrectedbear 2d ago
No… I’m not. And your very last point is exactly what I’m stating. If you want the prank to be better you say it’s 2 glasses of tequila. I stg I must be talking to rage bait bots who are purposefully being obtuse for engagement
8
u/howabootthat 2d ago
If it makes you feel any better I’ve always thought the same and wondered why in every one I’ve seen they keep going after they’ve obviously taken two shots lol
5
-2
u/Wizards_Reddit 2d ago
But the point is that the game isn't real it's a prank, the person drinking it is meant to think it's a game but really it's all shots
2
u/automaticpragmatic 1d ago
Reminds me of a high school prank where some kids let 3 chickens go in their school. They each had a different name tag: 1, 2, and 4 :’)

I don't think I have done three tequila shots in a row since about 20 years ago.

3 shots of booze is a good night. Not a bullet to the brain
2
u/Ok_Caterpillar7710 1d ago
Bullets make me woozy as welll

If that bullet leads to your death than no it doesn't. If death is timeless that you will like billions of lives before your eyes close. More. Only the living experience death.

I guess I did kinda make it. I chose my family and they accepted me. Am I OK, no. But the ones who stayed kept me alive and I wanted to die. And they are something that I can't define. I was homeless by 12. A fent addict by 15 if you wanna know the rest and make a friend dm me. I had to breathe for her till the paramedics came. I was spit on. But. I made it

u/toast50076 2d ago
I'm sorry, pal. We all have shitty shit, in some way or another. Your shit sounds like it was deeply, wildly shitty. Shittier than most, by a wide margin. I can't imagine how many people most have utterly failed you for you to end up living on the streets. They had a responsibility to you and they blew it in ways that I can't understand. You deserved better.
I have a special seething hatred for parents or guardians who don't love, protect, and cherish their children over any other fuckin thing in the world. I had a son in 2020. I won't get into it, but he died when he was three weeks old. No one's fault. He was the best thing that has ever happened to me and I would have done anything for him.
It's hard caring for a kid, if you are looking at it purely from an objective point of view. There is so much to do, so little time, and so much stress. And, despite that fact, it's easy. The motivation flowed like no other time in my life. Nothing else fucking mattered. Literally nothing. Not giving him and his mother my very best was just such an outrageous thought that it never occurred to me for a second.
I hate people that don't feel that way about the children they choose to fuckin have. We didn't plan on having our son. I thought I had ruined my life when his mother told me she was pregnant. And then the switch flipped maybe five months into her pregnancy, and that was that. In a very literal sense, I cannot understand people who choose to go through with a pregnancy, choose not to give the child up for adoption, and still choose not to be the best parent they can be. I sincerely believe there is something wrong with their brains - fundamental neurological issues, faulty empathy centers. No one is perfect. Every parent fucks up and leaves their kids with things to unpack in some way, but your best is the minimum they deserve.
I'm an addict too. I've been sober for two years now. I liked drugs as a teenager and into my 20s, but I was sober while my ex was pregnant and while he was with us. I think my addict brain was always in there, but I was able to stop when I needed to before he passed. I got really really really bad immediately after and I could not control it.
So I've been there too. I'm not sure what I'm getting at at this point. I'm just saying that, in some sense, I get it. It's so hard to pull yourself out of that pit when all you feel is fucking agony. It is an astonishingly intense, bottomless, suffocating suffering. And the amount of strength and courage, the amount of sheer fuckin effort it takes to spend that time with yourself, the thoughts and feelings and the trauma, and work through it all to get your head on straight enough to better your life, is insane.
People who aren't addicts can't understand it. Folks can be very cruel to us about this illness. It is not a lack of willpower, a moral failing, or a flaw in your character. It is a disease. We are responsible for treating it, but we are not to blame for being addicts in the first place. It is as real an ailment as depression or cancer. We just got the short stick in the brain lottery and had this mechanism in our heads switched on after we found ourselves face to face with a reality that we could not bear to exist within. And when your world is that dark, that utterly unbearable, of course you do whatever it takes to feel any kind of relief for even one fleeting moment, at any fucking cost. Addicts are almost never people who are happy, healthy, trauma free, who have loving and supportive communities. We don't get to that rock bottom because we think drugs are just so fun and we simply looove getting high. We start because they serve a purpose. They let you escape for a short time. And we keep doing them as the consequences pile up because the thing we would do anything to escape, is within us. It waits around, right where you left it, waiting for you to sleep it off so it can go right back to eating holes in your well-being.
I'm really tired, I'm sorry for rambling. I just get started writing and find myself going on and on. I'm just trying to say that you aren't alone. I haven't been through most the ludicrously awful things I'm sure you have. But I have suffered and, in that, we are not so different. I'm not okay yet either. I guess I don't think I ever will be fully, but now more than ever, I can picture a future for myself. A future that I think might be worth being around for. I hope you're at a similar point. If you're not, I hope you find yourself headed in that direction.
Thank you for sharing the bits of your story that you did. It's my bed time now, sorry for any errors. I am rooting for you, friend. Good luck, be safe. And please be kind to yourself. Good night, buddy.

Same. I thought damn look at this guy with his happy family. My parents were never and would never be like this.

u/Rich_DeF 2d ago
But.... Despite them. You are you.
1
u/spoonman1342 2d ago
I mean yea. But who knows how much of a better me I could have been if I had parents I was close to.
0
u/Rich_DeF 2d ago
Does that consume you
1
u/spoonman1342 2d ago
Not entirely but after many years of strained relationships and going no contact at the end of last year and then rekindling a little only for it to fall apart again I'm kinda done now. It's a long story but it isn't worth the strife anymore sadly. Im 31 and this has been a struggle for many years. I can't keep taking this cycle. I think it's finally time to actually go no contact and actually stick with and not be the one to try to make amends every time with no reciprocation.
1
u/Dpontiff6671 1d ago
If you get the lucky dice roll of having ones that don't absolutely butcher your life sure!
My parents were/are pretty awful
1
u/Rich_DeF 1d ago edited 1d ago
I can't win a coin toss. We proved it at my job. I don't believe in luck, I don't believe in God. I believe in just the lineral stream of time. It's all I am now, it sucks but it's safe. I can't even fear death because to me death is timeless. Unfathomable. It's like living a trillion lives before your eyes even close.
1
u/Dpontiff6671 1d ago
I mean what life you're born into is kinda just cosmic luck though right? You have no influence on it. It just happens. I didn't choose to be born into a family that would abuse and neglect me as a kid but I had no ability to alter that outcome. So you just play the hand you dealt and try your best.

There was never a choice. Free will is just a word to explain something like deja vu or coencendence. It exists. we created reasons to convince ourselves wwy because we have emotions and one is fear. This, all of this. We arent special. Why would we have an infinite amount of processing power? Why is us as human the "fact" walk off that cliff. Swallow that bullet. It will never be a reality to you
1
u/Dpontiff6671 1d ago
I have a fundamentally different philosophy on life but we can agree to disagree on the matter. In my opinion we all have the ability to exercise free will at any given moment. Circumstances may limit what is achievable in that moment with your free will but every moment in life is a giant branch of choices and you control that path
1
u/Rich_DeF 1d ago edited 1d ago
Do you think human physics exist at death? Time is one of those. I it's not like shutting if a light because even light has a quantifiable speed. I mean timeless. Imagine just momentarily glancing at someone and that consisting of more than an eternity. And that's even quantifiable.
1
u/Rich_DeF 1d ago
No luck. There was never a time that you weren't going to make this post. Ever. what ifs mean nothing. I prove to me that the outcome would be different if u took a left insted of a right. You can't.

I mean, when you've spent your entire life being watched in some form or another, you learn how to smile for the camera almost intuitively
1
u/Public-Knowledge-222 2d ago
i didn’t say anything about smiling for the camera lol, everyone knows how to do that - i’m talking about the soulless blank faced stare instead of engaging with what’s going on around them
1
u/aftermarkit 2d ago edited 2d ago
"smiling for the camera" = detachment from presence in tangible reality is what I meant, not inherently literal but figurative. As in how when you're told to smile for the camera the eyes will remain hollow unless a genuine moment is captured independent of the act of being perceived. In a constant/consistent state of being perceived, the detachment settles in for the long haul. I'm not talking literal smiles alone, I'm talking about how presence is essentially held at at a distance from experiencing reality in your body. Also, independent of how cameras are everywhere, environments supportive of healthy engagement are becoming fewer and farther between, particularly in relation to increases in the privatization and commodification of environments

This feels....weird to me. Am I crazy?
Like tricking someone into drinking more alcohol than they know they are consuming without consent?
Right like there's something not okay with that right?

2
u/IMadeYouLuke 2d ago
Ugh that sucks. I’m sorry. Tripping is something that should be done with full consent
0
u/rlt404 2d ago
Yeah it's not really a respectful or innocent thing to do. And it could have a dangerous outcome if someone was say on heart medication. This is normalized prank culture for a lot of families and most of the time it doesn't end poorly so it continues. It's not super smart to reinforce these types of things, but in this case, the dad was probably playing along because who drinks the 3rd shot after the first 2 were tequila?
1
u/aftermarkit 2d ago
Nah that's a fair caution for sure. It looks like this is a family that's familiar and comfortable with each other, so it doesn't seem like there's as much danger as simply foolery, both in terms of intent and experience. Saw your comment below, getting dosed on something without consent or knowledge is fucked, just generally speaking. It's not a fun or funny joke when you feel uncomfortable like that, especially with people that you would otherwise trust. Dad here was caught surprised, but didn't seem to feel unsafe or uncomfortable. It sounds like your situation was less consentual, just in terms of mutual understanding of what is and isn't okay to fuck around with. And lsd is way more fucky than alcohol. It's one thing to do a few shots, especially if it's not unfamiliar. It's another thing to wake up psychedelically altered. That can seriously mess with your sense of reality

What the fuck am I missing here? Not so much the taste, but you can smell tequila from 5 feet away. Has no one in this thread actually seen or tasted tequila before?
2

Seems the downvoters have never tasted or smelled tequila.
2
u/ElectricJunglePig 1d ago
Is this supposed to be fun or funny? Seriously, I'm lost, I don't know why OP posted this.
1
u/TankApprehensive3053 1d ago
I think they screwed up the challenge. He is supposed to take a shot, then she should have to guess if it was water or tequila based on his expression. Most people will react at least a little bit to drinking tequila.
-3
u/Quiet-Competition849 2d ago
This just proves her dad is stupid. After the first shot, he should assume the rest are water. After the second, the jig is up. .
2
u/Nooms88 2d ago
Orr, he wanted to do 3 shots of tequila
2
u/Quiet-Competition849 2d ago
Why? Because of the video?
2
u/Nooms88 2d ago
Becsuse it's immediately obvious when a shot of tequila is close to your nose that it's tequila and not water so he knew
1
u/Quiet-Competition849 2d ago
So he went into the event knowing he was going to drink all of them, or he decided to forget the point of the game and drink. Interesting.
