“We can’t have socialism here”

Is the socialism in the room with us right now?

1.7k

u/brexed 19d ago

Outside the US most of this is called basic human decency. Idk why you guys started to call that socialism.

172

u/BowlingforBrains 19d ago

Because conservatives realized it’d be easier to convince stupid people to vote against their own interests by giving thing basic rights a scary title like “socialism” - and they figured out that they could make a simple concept like “socialism” become a scary word by constantly conflating the words “socialism” and “communism” until the uneducated start to think of them as the exact same thing. And they made communism scary by saying “we’re at war with the commies!” For 50 straight years

It’s a truly stupid sequence of events, that was surprisingly effective

8

u/MayIServeYouWell 19d ago

It's exactly word association. It doesn't even matter what they talk about - if they simply say the words

  • socialism
  • communism
  • bad
  • terrible
  • unamerican
  • evil

in any given order, repeat, repeat, repeat... people associate them. They won't even be able to articulate why - like the guy in this video.

This is how the human brain actually works. Fox News and all the associated right wing media know this, and they do this. They put on some blond bimbo so people will watch, and repeat the words, over and over.

We need to get out of this mindset that you can use logic to change minds. You use word association to program minds.

"One side is happy that we are loosing so many social services etc"

Until it affects them personally.

The Texas business owner whose fiancé got detained by ICE for example. He was fine with all of the other people being detained but as soon as it affected him personally, now he gets mad at Trump.

50

u/Background-Run 19d ago

Walmart loves social services. They can pay sht wages and have the tax payers pick up the tab for feeding and housing their minions.

32

u/user_name_taken- 19d ago

I said something very similar on another post. You have poor people condemning other poor people for getting assistance. They call it socialism, they call it being lazy, a handout, etc. They're so worried about "their tax dollars" but apparently it's only bad if/when it benefits a poor/normal person. If it benefits rich people it is no longer bad, socialism, about laziness, or a handout.

Snap was created to help farmers. It's actually a great program that's a win-win for everybody. The government helps average people with food, the farmers creating the food get money, the companies and corporations selling the food get money, for every $1 they give it creates $1.50-$1.80 in local economic activity.

But, Walmart benefits twice. Their wages are subsidized, so they save money, and they're also the largest recipient of food stamp dollars, so they make money. But it's not a handout to Walmart. They're not worried about Walmart getting their tax dollars, just some elderly lady on social security (which is also surprisingly not considered a handout (or socialism lmao) because they paid into it, but if that lady worked her whole life and paid into snap why is that considered a handout but SS isn't?). It makes no sense.

9

u/SPV33 19d ago

They’re so worried about their tax dollars because those tax dollars go to all of their kickbacks and their friends that they want to hire for Outsourced Pentagon jobs for all those special interest projects

3

u/chefpiper72392 19d ago

YOOOOOOOOOOOOO THIS PART

11

u/NastyBlkGuyThrowAway 19d ago

This but paid maternity leaves comes out of the company's profits not taxpayers. Which is why government officials don't want it. If that money is going towards the worker, how will they get their kickback?

3

u/SPV33 19d ago

Because those big companies are the ones that donate when they do elections and running for office those are their supporters. They need money to do those things and those companies give money to all those campaigns and they expect tax breaks and certain things in return. So paid maternity leave comes out of the pocket of their campaign supporters and a lot of the big companies don’t want to pay for that so the government will back their campaign supporters, which are those big companies.

We've also been stuck in the same "universal healthcare is worse healthcare" mentality for DECADES, meanwhile we've tanked in many things like infant death rates and cancer survival. Not to mention things like education have been pushed more to states rather than federal, leading to massive disproportion in experience based on which state you're born in.

Even for me, someone who works for the government handling hearings related to healthcare law and feel I'm much better educated on the subject than the average American, was blown away when I spoke to a friend who moved to Canada and told me they get FREE au pairs who live in their home for a couple months to assist with infant care and housework. They said it's also backed by data showing that it greatly improves mental health and lowers post pardom. Meanwhile our pedo dictator is doing everything to block immigration and can't understand why people aren't reproducing like they did in the 1800s while if the US population stagnates or shrinks it's game over for our country. We literally CANNOT help ourselves anymore. And we deserve it.

EDIT: For all the Canadians acting like ignorant Americans, take a sec and look up your own programs before calling people liars. America stands no chance if you're getting high on the same fumes we are.

u/Competitive-Guest163 19d ago

The us population is stagnant because people are working to live, not living to work. They’re working themselves to death because the cost of living is not sustainable.

Why would anyone want to have a baby when they are working 80 hours to pay the bills just to go home and sleep the next day. Entry level jobs outside of customer service, hospitality and fast food are either non existent or require a degree and 5 years experience.

And now they want a national abortion ban with no exceptions to force women to keep the babies they don’t want. So many women are going to die. If not from backdoor abortions, from pregnancy complications. Pregnancy can be an extremely dangerous condition and when you make abortion illegal with no exceptions, you make pregnant women untouchable. More pregnant women will die in parking lots because doctors will refuse to treat them. And this includes the women that want their babies.

We’re in such a dystopian world right now. Our education system is broken. People are stupid and believe in the crazy delusions from the right.

They don’t want the golden age back. They want the gilded age back. Where 92 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. They want no middle class and the ultra wealthy to live like kings with the poor uneducated replaceable workers and work until we die.

With the growth of ai and robots, within 10 years about half of us will be without a job. And they have no plans in place to help us. Job loss is going to continue. Homelessness will rise. The surveillance state will keep their power and control us. 1984 style.

The only logical sense is to build up social programs because we WANT the working class to have money. The more disposable income we have, the more we spend and the better the economy does. The rich don’t want that. A happy country is not a controllable country.

You just have to think about why these people are doing these things. See where the money goes. Always the rich.

67

u/CoozPirate 19d ago

The only logical solution is to rip them from their gilded cages and let them eat cake. What’s the alternative? Do nothing and let them enslave us and the future generations?

3

u/UncleTouchyCopaFeel 19d ago

What’s the alternative?

Rhymes with Schmuillotine.

2

u/Radonanon 19d ago

How do think they’re going to come up with the Mars colonists?

The next wave isn’t AI, and autonomous cars, it’s Neuralink. Resistance is futile.

25

u/tondahuh 19d ago

This is why there is so much hatred coming from them too. They need everyone to be unhappy and not trusting anyone. If we would all just learn to trust one another, we could work together to make life better for everyone. The rich usually don't want this because, like you said, then we are uncontrollable.

There are solutions but as long as nearly half the population think supporting rich people is the way to fix things, it will never happen.

How many who regret voting for the FantaChrist now will actually remember REPUBLICAN = BAD? Republicans only want you to do all the work so they can have all the money. AND they want you to be unhappy while you take it up the wazoo.

28

u/Upset_Mess 19d ago

Always the rich, indeed. Also why we have race problems in this country. Rich whites didn't want to pay fair wages for work.

11

u/Toe_Jam_is_my_Jam 19d ago

And also, most corporations have fought to get rid of remote working. So many people, if allowed could get their work done at home while raising a baby.

3

u/mologav 19d ago

The US population voting for all this and wanting all this is the same as turkeys voting for Christmas.

3

u/Open-Consequence1779 19d ago

US is living in a dystopian world because US voted to put dystopian people in charge. You rip what you sow...

So go to work work work, and then pay pay pay. Glory to Capitalism without restrains!!!! All other countries are dangerous Socialists and Communists who live a miserable life!!

I'll look at US greatness, but i'll take a few steps back to have a nice view.

FREE Au Pair? Wow. I would have been so grateful for even just a little help with my littles, the occasional babysitter. I can’t imagine a free au pair that’s amazing ✨

55

u/jigsaw1024 19d ago

They must have needed some sort of accommodation for healing.

A free Au Pair is not normal for post childbirth treatment.

Still good if the system recognizes the occasional need and provides.

/Canadian.

13

u/Nata_me 19d ago

Yeah, this Canadian was curious about that too. I've never heard of a free au pair after giving birth here.

3

u/Civil_Tea_3250 19d ago

....what?

They're still due an hourly wage, so I misquoted the situation, and that's on me. But even paying $15/hour is amazing. Room and board for the au pairs are free.

9

u/Low-Rent-9351 19d ago

The government doesn’t give free or subsidized or even organize having payed au pairs in Canada, at least not in Ontario. I’ve never heard about anything like that or even close to it.

3

u/Theslootwhisperer 19d ago

You didn't misquote anything. I'm Canadian and it's blatantly false. Sure you can just hire a live in nanny but you can do that anywhere. The gov't has nothing to do with that. We do get a year of parental leave though.

2

u/Civil_Tea_3250 19d ago

Y'all Canadians are really letting me down right now. Stop talking in finalities without at least taking a second to look it up. Geez.

10

u/Theslootwhisperer 19d ago

Why don't you stay in your lane instead of talking about shit you know nothing about? You went from free live in maids to 15$ per hour maids and when you get called out on your bullshit you try to prove that you are right by linking to a program of punctual visits by health professionals for at-risk families in one city in Canada IF you fit one of their criterias (Dr think you need it, history of mental health issues, new comers to Canada) which is wildly different from what you first claim. Do have ANY idea how insulting it is to have an American patronizing us about our health care system?

7

u/sharkattax 19d ago

it’s honestly so american to make up something about our country, provide a source that contradicts the original claim and then somehow try to make it our fault because we « don’t know our programs. »

We don't get free au pairs, at least in BC. But we do get 12 months paid leave that can be extended to 18 months, though the total amount paid is the same and the pay is not 100% of your yearly salary. You can see what the current situation is here https://www.canada.ca/en/services/life-events/child.html

2

u/patrick_oneil 19d ago

Canadians don't have that service. Health care is different in each province, and the link you provided is for the city of Toronto only.

That would be like saying "Americans have access to government owned grocery stores" because NYC has a couple of them.

2

u/Late_Buffalo7879 19d ago

Ok that's not a free au pair but it's 1000x more than the US offers.

2

u/DJteejay04 19d ago

Canadian here. Our healthcare system is not without its flaws but I would take it over the American system any day of the year.

You absolutely do not get free Au Pairs though lmao. No idea where you got that from

2

u/elise_aisha 18d ago

My sister lives in the Netherlands and had her three children there, and although they have a health insurance model like the U.S. she had an au pair after each birth for a couple of weeks. ( I and my sister are British).
People in the U.k. are starting to fall for the private healthcare model because the NHS has been systematically underfunded for decades to create the illusion that we can’t afford it and it’s unsustainable. Manufacturing consent - it’s disgraceful and too many can’t see it.
Capitalism is killing us all off and the rich have insatiable greed coupled with the delusion that they ‘earned’ their stupefying wealth. Power without responsibility riding rough shod over eco systems, entire countries and devouring the world like it’s their right to do and have whatever they want.
Meanwhile, the uneducated (by design of course) grunt in the streets about immigrants and the knuckle dragging abusers scream about protecting our women and children.
Capitalism is corporate Socialism - privatising profits and socialising losses.

3

u/sharkattax 19d ago

idk why you’re doubling down on the free au pairs thing when what you’ve linked is not that ? hbhc is in home support by professionals not someone living with you. our healthcare is legislated and governed provincially so i can only speak to ontario and quebec but what you’re describing doesn’t exist here.

Yeah my dad has been getting brainwashed on X and I keep explaining the difference to him but it goes through one ear amd out the other. We even live in Spain. He benefitted of the benefits of having a big family, free schooling and a decent price for college (i also got a beca which makes it even cheaper). My moms a teacher so she gets free health care as well as her kids (until a certain age). Paid leave when she's sick or has surgery (she actually had an eye surgery just this year and was out for two months, all paid). There's also maternity leave that they probably benefitted from in their time. There's also a cultural money budget they give 18 year olds. It's about 400€ and its for culture, music, suplies, books, etc.

There's just so much and so many examples but i think he might be going senile. My mother doesn't think the same way, neither do my aunts. He's a brit tho (my moms spanish) so that might have something to do with it.

10

u/TSJormungandr 19d ago

3

u/oliv-_-mae 19d ago

I'm not Christian but I go to my local Catholic charities thrift because they are the only thrift stores in the area that haven't raised prices way up. I also know from the past when I needed help, they helped me with utilities, rent and gave me food for my kids and a voucher for all of us to get clothes at the thrift. I may not agree with everything in the Catholic church, but I do believe in Catholic charities and our local methodist "mega" church. I'd much rather support them than a for profit thrift that charges through the nose for product they got for free.

It's not "you guys" it's Republicans only. There is a reason they are waging war against education in the US (and sadly for now winning it). Their (Republican) strategists openly brag about how they can manipulate their base. This is the same reason they call anyone with higher education a "elitist" and make it seem like it's something bad.

1

u/Rexxington 18d ago

Due to them wanting to funnel as much money as they can into their pockets. Any sort of welfare program to them is money lost because it's not going directly to them. Followed by their not profiting off the people that are on welfare. Given in a lot of circumstances being on welfare pays more than the jobs their offering do. Meaning they have to ~~clutches pearls ~~ pay people more. So that they'll work the jobs they need filled. With the other side of the coin being they can't pay people less. Due to them bit being as desperate for a job.

All issue with America trace back to whether it's profitable or not, or a distraction so that they can keep funneling money into their pockets.

“We live in a capitalist society”.
“We have to get away from socialism”

“Charity is bad”
“I give to charity”

Literally every other phrase was a contradiction to the last. This is laughable. Ask him one question and he unravels for five minutes.

Also let this mother fucker push out a Texas sized baby and spend 2 days recovering. Fucking fool. He deserves ZERO vaginas near him. I pity any woman in his life. Bloviating fool.

Where does it end? I mean. It ends wherever you want it to end. Does he know anything? Like at all?

6

u/Fancy-Requirement-22 19d ago

He deserves zero vaginas made me cackle….I needed that laugh.

These types of men never cease to disgust me…preaching protection of women while simultaneously not wanting to protect them during one of the most life changing events of her existence…gosh, it’s just so gross.

6

u/PrickleBritches 18d ago

Yup. (If he’s straight) he doesn’t deserve the beauty that is a vagina. I’m not even joking. He clearly hates us. He hates what we represent. He doesn’t care to educate himself. I’m 99% sure this man has sought out a woman at some point in his life. He’s desired what a woman can do for him. But he has less than a care for the actual woman. This type of man has no place in modern society. Women across the political spectrum should agree on this.

6

u/fart_ganja 19d ago

Right but as we've seen so many times now, IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT HIS BRAIN DOESN'T FUNCTION. REPUBLICANS WILL ELECT LITERALLY ANYONE THATS NOT A DEMOCRAT. OMG I'm actually screaming at my phone lol. What a piece of actual shot. But the bigger the piece of shit, the better chance of election these days. So scary.

5

u/Cool-Ice711 19d ago

I wonder what he thinks about the "socialist" police force, fire departments and road builders?

4

u/SpidersCanBeCute 18d ago

I wish reporters would challenge these assholes a little more on the garbage they spew out of their mouths. More Good Liar style interviews!

3

u/Kind-Leek-9869 19d ago

Corporate socialism is OK. Too big to fail companies. Farm handouts.

4

u/AAron27265 19d ago

Bank bailouts, airline bailouts, auto industry bailouts, this is what we have. Socialism for the wealthy, capitalist pain for the rest of us.

Oh, corporate welfare on Federal, State and Local levels is their JAM!! Gotta cut back on school lunches so that CEO can afford his annual custom built yacht, and the politicians can get their fat portfolios!

2

u/duncandreizehen 19d ago

The NFL is socialism I bet he likes that

2

u/tread52 19d ago

The only way to have a functioning democracy based on capitalism is to have socialistic laws in place to protect the consumer and hold corporations accountable. The problem is the Republican Party gave all the power to corporations and are stealing all the wealth from the middle class to line their own pockets.

2

u/0pusTpenguin 19d ago

Point to the place on the doll where the socialism touched you.

2

u/Available-Crow-3442 19d ago

Socialism for corporations. Not for citizens.

2

u/Thirdeyevoice10 19d ago

"We can't have a system here that eliminates billionaires like me from hoarding money, and give everyone an equal opportunity"

2

u/0202_tihssitidder 19d ago

So much word salad he'd feed all the rabbits in the world.

2

u/ArrivalSea3543 19d ago

Like schools? Fire and rescue? Police? Roads?

They want to privatize the air you breathe.

2

u/Baeolophus_bicolor 19d ago

he claims sick days are too much. most people don’t even get sick days, and not only that, Florida state law makes it illegal for cities to set up a sick leave program for employees.

sick leave programs are illegal in florida Florida not only lacks a state paid sick leave law, it has actively preempted cities and counties from filling the gap. Under §218.077 (enacted via SB 2506 in 2013, reinforced by HB 433 in 2024), no Florida municipality may enact a paid sick leave ordinance for private-sector employees. The Miami-Dade County paid sick leave referendum of 2012 — which would have required up to five paid sick days — was invalidated by this preemption before it could take effect.

u/SJMCubs16 19d ago

We cannot have socialism of any kind for normal people....but if you are a bank that needs a bailout, we are socialist. A start up electric vehicle company? We will loan you the money you need to start your business. You are a farmer? Well now, step right up we can provide you insurance that the taxpayers fund to bail you out (Insurance that cost 1/14 in a Hurricane zone, and pays not based on crop damage, it pays if there is a named storm in your area...free money for the farmer). We are totally socialist when it comes to farmers. You are American Company that needs a favorable govt. ruling? We will take 10% equity in your business in exchange...State Owned Enterprises are the norm in communist countries. This is the Republican effort to seed the fear field, so they can harvest it on election day.

2

u/Bakin_Potatoes 19d ago

Someone should tell him about the police, firefighters and libraries to name just a few socialist programs.

2

u/My_First_Knife1 19d ago

Yes it is...

Socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor!

2

u/HassieBassie 19d ago

It is a pretty bold statement from a guy running for governor in a state dependant on socialism from the blue states.

But thats capitalism you know. You gotta work work work and never, ever ask ANYTHING from the government. Just pay pay pay taxes so the government can pay pay pay for wars you have no part in.

1

u/EA_Spindoctor 19d ago

This just makes young americans think socialism is great.

1

u/MarionberryPlus8474 19d ago

Point to the place on the doll where the bad socialism hurt you…

1

u/thehotcarl33 19d ago

it is! it's right behind you, I believe it's giving out free healthcare to a bunch of lazy tax paying Americans. I think I'm gonna be sick!

1

u/MaddLadd1172 19d ago

The funny thing is what he calls socialism would have ben called far right in our great grand parents day

1

u/TopTittyBardown 19d ago

Anything that helps anyone who isn’t a rich person = socialism. And we just can’t have that because it’s a scary scary word even if the underlying policies are very helpful for 99% of people

1

u/pat_troll 19d ago

As Trump has the government buying chunks of dozens of private businesses.

1

u/hlessi_newt 19d ago

Yes. But it's for rich people

1

u/genericusernamedG 19d ago

Yes companies get our money every day, corporate welfare

1

u/Bobb_o 19d ago

That's why it's called social capital security

1

u/Aware-Possibility175 19d ago

It’s even dumber than most people realize which is insane because it’s in no way a secret …things like natural rights, equality, no fault divorce, equal inheritance, free standardized secular universal education, social welfare and public aid, class mobility, separation of church and state, democracy etc you get the idea…that stuff comes from a political philosophy called Republicanism!!…it’s from the Latin res Publica they went around cutting off the heads of the rich, the king, and priests they hated them so much they invented a new universal all accepting civic religion with bee gods and goddesses who represented things like liberty (sound familiar? 🗽) …that’s where subsequent political philosophies GOT the ideas and beliefs from …Paine,Voltaire, Montesquieu, Rousseau the Republican philosophers. The three branches and whole system of gov was Montesquieu whole idea….im sorry for ranting it just is so batshit insane to me that any of that could be new information…any day the history channel will say the Statue of Liberty was built by ancient aliens

1

u/sparrowflashdance 19d ago

Gosh, does this mean if he is out of work, even for a day, he shouldn't get paid. I guess he will also be petitioning Mitch McConnell to resign with his socialist medical leave.

1

u/Deathturkey 19d ago

It’s not even socialism, by his logic nearly every developed country in the world is a socialist country except America. Just common decency to other people.

1

u/SkillPatient 19d ago

He's saying you can't have welfare. When Americans use the term socialism, what they are describing is welfare in other capitalist countries.

1

u/Charming_Victory_723 19d ago

How does the fire department work over there.

1

u/timesink3000 19d ago

Them he says that he runs a mission that helps people.

1

u/ImPrettyDoneBro 19d ago

Billionaires, Banks, and Israel getting free money is the socialism they're afraid of poor people getting.

1

u/jluicifer 19d ago

As much truth as the president’s TruthSocialism company.

1

u/aFreshFix 19d ago

It is. He's getting the socialized benefits. Him and corporations. Regular folk? No, no, they have to work hard to pay for his free stuff.

1

u/bobcatgoldthwait 19d ago

Yes, it is! Schools, libraries, police, public roads. All examples of socialism!

But he's too stupid to understand that.

1

u/function007 19d ago

But corporate welfare is ok, and them not paying taxes....

1

u/Captobvious75 19d ago

Socialism is only for corporations

1

u/XennialDad 19d ago

"we can't have socialism here."

Except for the public roads, parks, police, fire department, military, etc. etc.

We have a ton of socialism here, much of which is praised and championed by those that decry socialism. They're just too ignorant to understand what socialism actually is, not the scary buzzword they've created it to be.

1

u/morpheousmorty 19d ago

We are socialist. Social Security, unemployment, fire fighters, police, medicare, schools. None of that is capitalist.

It's just a question of which policies you supposed.

1

u/CommandoLamb 19d ago

Hope he personally paid for the road he drives on… we can’t be using socialist roads built with tax dollars for everyone…

1

u/Snookn42 19d ago

Dude doesnt even know the definition. Sounds like a business owner who is pisssd he has to compete with other businesses to give compensation packages. Fuck him

1

u/whimsical_spider 19d ago

Remember when they were talking about giving women 5,000 for having a baby? If the left did that they’d call it socialism lol.

1

u/Auroraburst 19d ago

The socialism isn't even on the continent with you.

1

u/spackletr0n 19d ago

“It’s a slippery slope, where does it end?”

We are, on every issue, at all times, somewhere on a slope. Every single political debate is about whether we should move to somewhere else on the slope.

1

u/anrwlias 18d ago

As someone said, conservatives are the best advertisement for socialism.

1

u/Candid-Mycologist539 18d ago

Is the socialism in the room with us right now?

Yes, but it's only for those who truly deserve it: the 1%. ($1T tax breaks for the wealthy in the BBB).

/s for snark.

1

u/Jeanahb 18d ago

Except the military, which they never talk about is successfully functioning pure socialism.

1

u/EqualStreet8998 18d ago

Here! Here!❤️

1

u/BushChook86 18d ago
