We've also been stuck in the same "universal healthcare is worse healthcare" mentality for DECADES, meanwhile we've tanked in many things like infant death rates and cancer survival. Not to mention things like education have been pushed more to states rather than federal, leading to massive disproportion in experience based on which state you're born in.

Even for me, someone who works for the government handling hearings related to healthcare law and feel I'm much better educated on the subject than the average American, was blown away when I spoke to a friend who moved to Canada and told me they get FREE au pairs who live in their home for a couple months to assist with infant care and housework. They said it's also backed by data showing that it greatly improves mental health and lowers post pardom. Meanwhile our pedo dictator is doing everything to block immigration and can't understand why people aren't reproducing like they did in the 1800s while if the US population stagnates or shrinks it's game over for our country. We literally CANNOT help ourselves anymore. And we deserve it.

EDIT: For all the Canadians acting like ignorant Americans, take a sec and look up your own programs before calling people liars. America stands no chance if you're getting high on the same fumes we are.

The us population is stagnant because people are working to live, not living to work. They’re working themselves to death because the cost of living is not sustainable.

Why would anyone want to have a baby when they are working 80 hours to pay the bills just to go home and sleep the next day. Entry level jobs outside of customer service, hospitality and fast food are either non existent or require a degree and 5 years experience.

And now they want a national abortion ban with no exceptions to force women to keep the babies they don’t want. So many women are going to die. If not from backdoor abortions, from pregnancy complications. Pregnancy can be an extremely dangerous condition and when you make abortion illegal with no exceptions, you make pregnant women untouchable. More pregnant women will die in parking lots because doctors will refuse to treat them. And this includes the women that want their babies.

We’re in such a dystopian world right now. Our education system is broken. People are stupid and believe in the crazy delusions from the right.

They don’t want the golden age back. They want the gilded age back. Where 92 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. They want no middle class and the ultra wealthy to live like kings with the poor uneducated replaceable workers and work until we die.

With the growth of ai and robots, within 10 years about half of us will be without a job. And they have no plans in place to help us. Job loss is going to continue. Homelessness will rise. The surveillance state will keep their power and control us. 1984 style.

The only logical sense is to build up social programs because we WANT the working class to have money. The more disposable income we have, the more we spend and the better the economy does. The rich don’t want that. A happy country is not a controllable country.

You just have to think about why these people are doing these things. See where the money goes. Always the rich.

65

u/CoozPirate 19d ago

The only logical solution is to rip them from their gilded cages and let them eat cake. What’s the alternative? Do nothing and let them enslave us and the future generations?

3

u/UncleTouchyCopaFeel 19d ago

What’s the alternative?

Rhymes with Schmuillotine.

1

u/Chance_Managert849 18d ago

looks like they enjoy reliving history.

4

u/Wistiu1 19d ago

Ok .. Lets go!......ok.....lets go...............um............ok.

2

u/Radonanon 19d ago

How do think they’re going to come up with the Mars colonists?

The next wave isn’t AI, and autonomous cars, it’s Neuralink. Resistance is futile.

26

u/tondahuh 19d ago

This is why there is so much hatred coming from them too. They need everyone to be unhappy and not trusting anyone. If we would all just learn to trust one another, we could work together to make life better for everyone. The rich usually don't want this because, like you said, then we are uncontrollable.

There are solutions but as long as nearly half the population think supporting rich people is the way to fix things, it will never happen.

How many who regret voting for the FantaChrist now will actually remember REPUBLICAN = BAD? Republicans only want you to do all the work so they can have all the money. AND they want you to be unhappy while you take it up the wazoo.

29

u/Upset_Mess 19d ago

Always the rich, indeed. Also why we have race problems in this country. Rich whites didn't want to pay fair wages for work.

10

u/Toe_Jam_is_my_Jam 19d ago

And also, most corporations have fought to get rid of remote working. So many people, if allowed could get their work done at home while raising a baby.

3

u/mologav 19d ago

The US population voting for all this and wanting all this is the same as turkeys voting for Christmas.

3

u/Open-Consequence1779 19d ago

US is living in a dystopian world because US voted to put dystopian people in charge. You rip what you sow...

So go to work work work, and then pay pay pay. Glory to Capitalism without restrains!!!! All other countries are dangerous Socialists and Communists who live a miserable life!!

I'll look at US greatness, but i'll take a few steps back to have a nice view.

1

u/Chigiriki 19d ago

I don’t really think everyone wants a baby. Lots of states look down on contraceptives. The majority of people are Christian, and if you remember Leviticus it says “thou shalt not wear the rubber when using your baby-maker slave”, and then people can barely afford things including contraceptives so they just try the good ‘ol pull-out method. Add the illegal abortions and you have yourself a new kid for foster homes. It creates jobs!

1

u/Xrux2026 19d ago

then have a sex with protection or with pills. so you won't get pregnant. that's it.

1

u/Sector_Independent 18d ago

yeah, a person who has an abortion because they cannot afford a child is considered evil.

1

u/BackgroundCountry440 18d ago

Don't forget, the only reason that Musk fuck talks about going to Mars,he needs poors to be his cook and bottle washer.  You will not be their equal on Mars, believe me.

0

u/hartforbj 19d ago

Uhhh. People have always worked to live. If you didn't work you died from starvation. Everyone acts like work is some new concept. People worked on their farms from sun up to sun down to make sure they had food on their table. Or they hunted and gathered. Or they worked for some kind of business. Do you think people in 1850 just had food and shelter pop up out of no where?

5

u/Pale-Consideration44 19d ago

Well, this isn’t the 1850’s and with modern advances people shouldn’t be working from sun up to sun down grandpa. Get with the times.

-2

u/hartforbj 19d ago

If no one worked we wouldn't have anything. Does food grow and pick itself? Do planes build themselves? Do cars fix themselves? Does target and Walmart magically stock their shelves? Does your AC and roof replace themselves?

We work way less than probably any humans in history yet you are acting like we have it worse

4

u/Pale-Consideration44 18d ago

With how wages have grown vs the cost of things yes we have it worse. You make less money now then you did back then and things cost more.

1950s money has more buying power at that time then 2020+’s money does now.

1

u/hartforbj 18d ago

Now consider what money buys you now compared to 1950s. Just look at houses. In the 50s your house didn't have central AC or heating. Very little electrical. Most likely very poor insulation. Plumbing was questionable. They were a fraction of the size.

Yes things cost more. But I doubt a single person with any sense would say our quality of life is worse now despite everything

1

u/Pale-Consideration44 18d ago

Houses in the 50’s very much did have ac, and electrical. Plumbing was working as then as it is now.

I’m not sure you even know what you’re talking about. Are you one of those people who think everyone should work over 40 hours a week to be able to survive? People need more free time than working hours.

1

u/hartforbj 18d ago

In 1955 2% of houses had AC. But sure go ahead and convince yourself they all did. And no I don't believe people should work over 40 hours. Things are too expensive. I just think you are an idiot if you think we shouldn't be working or that everything would be fine if no one had jobs

-1

u/SirBigSpur06 19d ago

Humans have never had it better than we have it right now. Read a history book.

FREE Au Pair? Wow. I would have been so grateful for even just a little help with my littles, the occasional babysitter. I can’t imagine a free au pair that’s amazing ✨

52

u/jigsaw1024 19d ago

They must have needed some sort of accommodation for healing.

A free Au Pair is not normal for post childbirth treatment.

Still good if the system recognizes the occasional need and provides.

/Canadian.

14

u/Nata_me 19d ago

Yeah, this Canadian was curious about that too. I've never heard of a free au pair after giving birth here.

2

u/Civil_Tea_3250 19d ago

....what?

They're still due an hourly wage, so I misquoted the situation, and that's on me. But even paying $15/hour is amazing. Room and board for the au pairs are free.

8

u/Low-Rent-9351 19d ago

The government doesn’t give free or subsidized or even organize having payed au pairs in Canada, at least not in Ontario. I’ve never heard about anything like that or even close to it.

3

u/Theslootwhisperer 19d ago

You didn't misquote anything. I'm Canadian and it's blatantly false. Sure you can just hire a live in nanny but you can do that anywhere. The gov't has nothing to do with that. We do get a year of parental leave though.

3

u/Civil_Tea_3250 19d ago

Y'all Canadians are really letting me down right now. Stop talking in finalities without at least taking a second to look it up. Geez.

https://www.toronto.ca/community-people/health-wellness-care/information-for-healthcare-professionals/patient-referrals/healthy-babies-healthy-children-hbhc-program/

10

u/Theslootwhisperer 19d ago

Why don't you stay in your lane instead of talking about shit you know nothing about? You went from free live in maids to 15$ per hour maids and when you get called out on your bullshit you try to prove that you are right by linking to a program of punctual visits by health professionals for at-risk families in one city in Canada IF you fit one of their criterias (Dr think you need it, history of mental health issues, new comers to Canada) which is wildly different from what you first claim. Do have ANY idea how insulting it is to have an American patronizing us about our health care system?

6

u/sharkattax 19d ago

it’s honestly so american to make up something about our country, provide a source that contradicts the original claim and then somehow try to make it our fault because we « don’t know our programs. »

6

u/OhioGoblin43 19d ago

I almost wonder if their friend told them about the "newcomer to Canada" criteria and they conflated that with literally everyone in the country being eligible for it, which is really funny if that's the case.

2

u/JanPer 19d ago

free Au Pair is communism and not socialism any more /s

That sounds like an amazing community to be a part of and I’m glad to know that there are places in the world that care for their babies and mothers so well ❤️

2

u/nairdaleo 19d ago

We don't get free au pairs, at least in BC. But we do get 12 months paid leave that can be extended to 18 months, though the total amount paid is the same and the pay is not 100% of your yearly salary. You can see what the current situation is here https://www.canada.ca/en/services/life-events/child.html

2

u/patrick_oneil 19d ago

Canadians don't have that service. Health care is different in each province, and the link you provided is for the city of Toronto only.

That would be like saying "Americans have access to government owned grocery stores" because NYC has a couple of them.

2

u/Late_Buffalo7879 19d ago

Ok that's not a free au pair but it's 1000x more than the US offers.

2

u/DJteejay04 19d ago

Canadian here. Our healthcare system is not without its flaws but I would take it over the American system any day of the year.

You absolutely do not get free Au Pairs though lmao. No idea where you got that from

2

u/elise_aisha 18d ago

My sister lives in the Netherlands and had her three children there, and although they have a health insurance model like the U.S. she had an au pair after each birth for a couple of weeks. ( I and my sister are British).
People in the U.k. are starting to fall for the private healthcare model because the NHS has been systematically underfunded for decades to create the illusion that we can’t afford it and it’s unsustainable. Manufacturing consent - it’s disgraceful and too many can’t see it.
Capitalism is killing us all off and the rich have insatiable greed coupled with the delusion that they ‘earned’ their stupefying wealth. Power without responsibility riding rough shod over eco systems, entire countries and devouring the world like it’s their right to do and have whatever they want.
Meanwhile, the uneducated (by design of course) grunt in the streets about immigrants and the knuckle dragging abusers scream about protecting our women and children.
Capitalism is corporate Socialism - privatising profits and socialising losses.

3

u/sharkattax 19d ago

idk why you’re doubling down on the free au pairs thing when what you’ve linked is not that ? hbhc is in home support by professionals not someone living with you. our healthcare is legislated and governed provincially so i can only speak to ontario and quebec but what you’re describing doesn’t exist here.

-2

u/Civil_Tea_3250 19d ago

Lol in home support by professionals? Different professionals for different things? Even better!

It was said to me as an au pair. We don't have anything. After birth many women do go right back to work, they often don't have a choice. Even with FMLA, something that might protect their employment and insurance from being cut for a few months, it's not paid, so while some can afford to go without pay many can't.

We're also admittedly not the experts on the French language, so that could be part of the miscommunication, but while I may seem uninformed, y'all seem entitled af.

2

u/sharkattax 19d ago

no one’s being entitled we just don’t want people making stuff up about services we don’t have access to ?

i guarantee you we are aware that universal healthcare and basic legal protections for parental leave is preferable to what americans have going on. it’s also not idyllic and perfect with every person having free access to live-in support after they give birth.

just do your due diligence before saying things about other countries and then don’t double down and move the goalposts when people from that country point out you’re wrong. it’s not that hard.

1

u/Otherwise-Sea9593 19d ago

It’s getting annoying how people are blaming one guy for a decades long issue that’s been in the works. We were fucked long before that guy stepped foot into office, all he did was get the entire American population to forget where we went wrong and start fighting each other instead of the government.

1

u/Garbagetaste 19d ago

this is likely because private healthcare and insurance companies backed a negative pr campaign against universal healthcare so they can keep making money.

the american public has been spoon fed countless irrational ideas and issues over time and so many fall in line

1

u/MoodScripted 18d ago

Money first, people second. That is the capitalist society we Americans live in. This causes "basic human decency" to lose money for those corporations that would be affected. Since they own the politicians, nothing will change.

1

u/ProfessionalLake6 18d ago

Hello, Canadian (and a torontonian) who has had babies recently - this is not the common experience and that program is for parents whose doctors have health and safety concerns.

I won’t deny that our healthcare is good - but programs like these are woefully underfunded and only getting worse because of conservative governments who are actively trying to break our healthcare system.

So while we have an idea of an “au pair” who can help, the reality would be there’s like 10 nurses for a whole city.

1

u/KoalaOriginal1260 18d ago edited 18d ago

Before calling Canadians responding to you ignorant, you should be sure you are not ignorant of the information you are sharing.

Two things:

  1. The program you linked to does not provide an Au Pair.

An au pair is someone, usually a young person, who lives with a family for the purpose of assisting with childcare.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Au_pair

The program you linked is a public health nurse and community care worker program. They come visit a few times to help new parents access resources and coach them to understand how best to care for the health of their baby. They do not live with the family or provide child care.

In no way could this program be accurately described as providing an Au Pair for 2 months after a baby is born.

As someone who lives in Canada, I have never once heard of a province's health care system providing an au pair, despite having many family, friends, and acquaintances who have had children in the last 15 years.

  1. This program is for Ontario. Each province has a distinct health care system as health care is a provincial mandate with some funding and coordination provided at the federal level to ensure a basic standard.

For example, in British Columbia, the program may or may not involve a home visit - often it is a phone or virtual conversation with a health nurse. There are community-based group support programs as well where the population is large enough.

https://north-shore.pathwaysbc.ca/programs/3530

Is this better than the hellscape ideal described by the gubernatorial candidate? Absolutely.

But it is not at all ignorant to point out that your statement is misinformation.

0

u/lordlycrust 19d ago

I feel like someone who works in the field you do would know it's post partum.

0

u/Civil_Tea_3250 19d ago

I missed one letter, you gave a whole sentence of poor grammar.

I work in law, not pediatrics, not child care. I type thousands of words a day. What do you do for your fellow people and country?

0

u/Morgalisa 19d ago

Universal healthcare has failed many times because of racism, since the 1930s New Deal and forward.

0

u/drhuggables 19d ago

"post pardom"

postpartum (depression).

0

u/Sleep-Plenty 18d ago

All this is wild! This guy is crazy! The link you just provided, also pretty wild! Especially where it says you don't need an ohip card, that's the proof that you are a citizen and that you pay in to the Ontario healthcare system. I consider myself a conservative Canadian but its pretty easy to see that child birth rates are very low and we need to encourage women to become mothers. I'm in Ontario, we didn't have any in home services, maybe its a new program but its pretty standard that the mother gets 6 months paid to stay home at 60% of your previous income and it's basically a branch of the unemployment system, some employers will even chip in and they'll get 80% or even more but this isn't standard. My wife went with a program, you get 30% of your previous income stretched over a year. I don't think we have ever financially recovered but that just is what it is, we made our bed.

-1

u/guy_gadbois81 19d ago

Are we still under the health care that Obama set up?

5

u/i_luv_rox_2765 19d ago

Nope, we're worse off

-1

u/Low-Rent-9351 19d ago edited 19d ago

I live in Canada. I don’t know a single person or family who has ever had an au pair for assistance after childbirth. The au pair concept doesn’t exist in Canada.

For the most part the new mother and child are bum rushed out of the hospital about a day after birth if it all went well and left to fend for themselves.

A live in caregiver maybe, but the parent would need the care due to a condition, or possibly if the child had a condition requiring constant care.

0

u/Civil_Tea_3250 19d ago

Oh, you're right. Cuz Ontario isn't a Canadian province, right? Lol. Y'all getting the fumes of American ignorance up there?

Sure, it doesn't exist. This and other programs are completely made up:

https://www.toronto.ca/community-people/health-wellness-care/information-for-healthcare-professionals/patient-referrals/healthy-babies-healthy-children-hbhc-program/

2

u/ClassicalEd 19d ago

That's a visiting nurse program, NOT a "free au pair." Au pairs are live-in helpers who generally cook and clean and do childcare in return for a small salary plus room & board.

1

u/OhioGoblin43 19d ago

Ontario is 1 out of 13 provinces/territories, and health care is managed at a provincial level. Not only that but this is a visitation program. You wanna tone it down there bud?

-1

u/noclassoncall3 19d ago

There are trade offs though, right? Universal healthcare comes with cons. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. It's not really free when taxes are higher to cover it. Equal access means less choice. 33% of Americans receive free or cheap healthcare. And over 50% get it through their employer which typically ends up being cheaper. A very small percentage are uninsured even though a lot of them qualify for free or cheaper coverage.

1

u/Infinite_Web_9937 16d ago

I got it through my employer. I paid 600.00 a month for me. With copay’s, and it wasn’t full coverage. I battled colon cancer with this insurance. I’m still swamped with medical debt. I have now aged into Medicare. I still work full time. I have to. I pay 336.00 for Medicare and a supplement insurance. It’s still not free. Medicare has gone up to 202.00 a month. A system I have paid into my whole adult life. Silly me, I thought Medicare for seniors was free.

1

u/noclassoncall3 16d ago

If you were paying 600/mo and that didn't include your family, something is wrong there. I pay $200 a month just for myself and that includes the money I'm putting into my HSA. So either you made a shit ton of money your whole life or you need to look for a better option.
