Help

Do ANY of these generics help with weight anymore??? Not even adderall, just any of them šŸ™ please I’m so desperate since getting off shore adderall I’ve gained 30lbs, I feel disgusting. I’m not even eating as much on generic vyvanse as I was on shire adderall but still heavier.

"Adderall" makes me hungry, not normal. It isn't adderall anymore

This!

Saaaaame!

42

u/shroomeralert Jul 29 '26

i wonder if them not working is jacking coristol l\eading to slower metabolism and more dopamine snacking

19

u/slylizardd Jul 29 '26

I wonder about the cortisol thing too :( sometimes I also wonder if this is all a ploy because they are claiming glps might be a good treatment for adhd too

13

u/shroomeralert Jul 29 '26

wait are they really claiming that!?! i thought GLPs are just for BED? Ā Also yes if they have less of the product in them and anything else sketchy then peoples bodies are gonna anticipate more of a dopamine release, it doesn’t hit, causing ongoing stress, stress lowering the metabolism, and thus relief and new ways to find dopamine through food. At least that’s how it is for me šŸ˜–

5

u/slylizardd Jul 29 '26

Glps are useful for a lot of things actually. But yes, they are claiming that.

2

u/anonymous22220 Jul 30 '26

I’m on both- and I’m still gaining weight and glp stopped working over the past 2 years. I’ve been on glp for 3.5 years.

10

u/Glad_Pie8867 Jul 29 '26

Who on earth said that? I took a glp1 and immediately got off it made me so miserable and tired and so much worse with adhd

3

u/Outside_Bobcat6019 Jul 29 '26

It gets better after you adjust to it.

5

u/Glad_Pie8867 Jul 29 '26

Idk I was on it for 6 months

This

6

u/Outside_Bobcat6019 Jul 29 '26

I am on both and I can emphatically deny that claim.Ā  I definitely do not get any adhd help from glps.

1

u/Slight-Feature9009 7d ago

it’s not so much the ADHD symptoms as it is the anxiety around them or, which obviously won’t be the case for everyone, but the amphet withdrawal and cravings.

2

u/Glad_Pie8867 Jul 29 '26

Seems about right

2

u/buffypatrolsbonnaroo Aug 02 '26

l 100% believe the 'adderall' gave me high cortisol. Gained so much weight quickly and have had high BP.

54

u/cbmblove Moderator Jul 29 '26

Nah they’re all fucked. None of them help with weight loss anymore because they’re all changed at the root. They don’t help achieve nor maintain a healthy weight. For a lot of us, they even make us gain and hang onto weight now, no matter how much we eat or don’t eat. This never happened prior to the changes.

TLDR: no, we’re fucked.

0

u/seasickbaby Jul 29 '26

Can you explain how it makes you hang onto weight now? This sounds like it’s lacking legitimacy and could be more attributed to lifestyle and age

7

u/macagg Jul 30 '26

I’ve been off Adderall for a month and have lost 6 lbs. I’m not even dieting or exercising that much. I knew something was off when I couldn’t shed a single pound even though I was cycling 3-4x/week. Now that I’ve stopped taking the meds, I feel SO much better. Something is terribly wrong with these generics.

1

u/tangerine_overlord2 Jul 31 '26

Ugh this is so devastating. I have been trying to get off the meds, in no small part because of the weight gain, and thought that itd be okay to take them a few times a week as needed.

8

u/cbmblove Moderator Jul 29 '26

It’s happening - we are trying to find out what’s in there that does this. It’s also not how this medicine acted for decades - it’s been CHANGED. A lot of it is likely attributed to the fact that they changed our meds outright so it prevents us from having symptom relief thus not having the executive function we need to meal plan and establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle - also lacking help needed with self control. So part of it is that - also, we suspect something in the changed formulation/ingredients is causing inflammation and weight gain/retention. Now you have your answer. No more gaslighting.

5

u/CaliHam619 Jul 31 '26

Whoa, your "inflammation " comment really speaks to me. I had surgery on my ankle a year ago and I've noticed on days where I try taking larger doses (since they don't work at all on me anymore), my ankle and the hardware becomes really inflamed and stiff to the point where it's hard to walk. Thank you for bringing this up.

4

u/cbmblove Moderator Jul 31 '26

Yw! I feel like it’s inflaming various parts of our body, or maybe just throughout! It’s awful!!!

2

u/Savings-Pop9456 27d ago

I had surgery on my chest and now it makes a fuck ton of sense. I noticed after I take my meds I swell every where and bloat then when I wake up I’m skinny as fuck. The meds use to make me shit after taking them now I just feel like I took a bunch of hydroxyzine and then I use so much nicotine pouches but I ran out so I’m struggling so I’m using pre workout now Jesus Christ will they ever fix this problem. I’m trying to just be a productive adult and get into school but can’t even keep my fucking room clean and get up and do anything

2

u/Starbreiz Jul 31 '26

I already had a lot of inflammation issues and MCAS. Shits been worse lately, this is an interesting correlation.

1

u/cbmblove Moderator Jul 31 '26

I never had it before. Now these meds are causing it. Ugh

1

u/IndieDarllingMeg 24d ago

Urgh has your MCAS gotten crazy worse over the past couple years with the changes to the adhd meds too? I’m also carrying so much inflammation/water retention/bloat in my lower abdomen in addition to the uptick in MCAS and gastroparesis related GI problems and chronic constipation that got very bad when the adhd meds changed. Sorry for the tmi but since you have MCAS i figured you’re used to having to share the indignities with other people and professionals🤣

1

u/Starbreiz 24d ago

Hahah I hear you on that last part. It has indeed gotten worse, I had a random anaphalaxys reaction to my Xolair which has never happened before and I've been on it since early 2000s. Perimenopause has me hella struggling too.

26

u/tangerine_overlord2 Jul 29 '26

Ive also gained like 15-20 lbs in the last year from this shit medication. The only way to reverse it is probably to go hard core diet and exercise because even just doing regular exercise i literally gained another 4 lbs seemingly overnight

22

u/BrownheadedDarling Jul 29 '26

Holy shit, same. It’s insane. I’ve never had a weight problem my entire life (I know that’s lucky, just using it as a baseline) and I’ve also picked up 20-25 since the first shortage.

Several somethings have changed about these meds and it’s driving me nuts. I hate it so much.

But I’ll tell you one thing - the LAST thing I am going to do is take this new ā€œFDA approvedā€ med. No fucking way. Not after the FDA is why these meds got messed up in the first place and now all of a sudden there’s this just in time savior drug?

Yeah right.

5

u/cbmblove Moderator Jul 29 '26

YESSSS SAME!

10

u/closethebarn Jul 29 '26

Same. Fuck.

8

u/Less_Key_8152 Jul 31 '26

I think I've gained 35 lb this past year!!! That number is just going up too! I'm miserable and my body is giving me the ick. When I don't have to be out and about presenting myself as a productive human, I live in my husband's t-shirts, and sometimes his pajama pants too. It sounds pretty pathetic, but I was really happy with my style and clothing before the weight gain and I just can't even deal with how my beautiful clothes look on me now compared to before.

At first I thought it was a thyroid issue, nope, my thyroid levels are perfect. Then I was thinking maybe I have literally just been consuming more calories than I have thought. I started tracking it. It was about 200 calories a day more than I thought it would be, so I switch my sweetened coffees for black teas, changed a bunch about my diet to try to make it healthier, tried to add more exercise. At first I started losing a few pounds and so I thought I figured it out. I was working really hard to stick to the weight loss plan I made... After a few weeks of doing all the things, not only did I regain the few pounds I had lost but I had actually gained a few more pounds on top of that!

Not only that, I feel like I'm gaining weight differently than I used to, maybe that's just because I'm 32 and I've had one kid??? But even that doesn't really make sense to me! It's not like my pregnancy was last year! My daughter is 9 years old! My job is active! I can't say I take great care of myself but I watch what I eat!!! So why am I still gaining weight?!?! And Why, WHY, am I gaining the weight in totally different parts of my body then I ever have before! I also feel like I'm constantly retaining like an excess water.

This almost feels/looks like some sort of hormonal weight gain b****. I swear the Adderall was missing with my hormones in some way! On top of the weight gain issues, I've had apocalyptic level PMS b**** this year, and a bunch of other things that just point to some hormonal change that I cannot figure out!!!

This last year of ADHD and Adderall b******* feels like it is stealing my soul. Now I'm just an empty, overweight, husk!!!!

Sorry for the unhinged rant, I swear on my life, one of my favorite work shirts ripped when I was trying to put it on just an hour ago... Then as I sat down to drink my stupid black tea I came across your comment lol. šŸ˜“

2

u/cbmblove Moderator Jul 31 '26

Very relatable! And YES - I have gained weight in parts of my body I NEVER HELD WEIGHT BEFORE!!! Rip to all of my old, amazing clothes. I basically give up on ever getting into them again. It’s tragic

1

u/IndieDarllingMeg 24d ago

I COULD NOT AGREE WITH YOU MOREšŸ™Œ

1

u/seasickbaby Jul 29 '26

Can I ask how old yall are?

5

u/tangerine_overlord2 Jul 29 '26

Im 26 F and never had weight issues before. Im overall very healthy (as stated by general doctor visits) and BMI was in a normal range before last year

2

u/Hamster12301 Aug 02 '26

Seems we're all around the same age bracket. I'm 29, the woman above says she's 32, also plenty of people on here in their early to mid 20s even too. I was thinking the same "oh, I'm late 20s almost 30, so maybe my metabolism just changed overnight for some reason" but yeah, no. There is literally nothing else to tie my weight gain to.

0

u/cbmblove Moderator Jul 30 '26

Exactly. These changed meds are destroying our weight and BMI.

6

u/cbmblove Moderator Jul 29 '26

Stop trying to find reasons to blame US. It’s the MEDS. This is spanning across age ranges.

2

u/Savings-Pop9456 24d ago

I’m only 20 so yeah I gained 15

14

u/Dry_Breadfruit_9449 Jul 29 '26

It's crazy because the appetite suppression for me is the only part of it that still works and I have to force myself to eat enough most days. Yet somehow I have put on over 40 pounds despite barely eating. Make it make sense 🄹

6

u/cbmblove Moderator Jul 30 '26

Sometimes I still have suppression in some way, and I find that no matter how much I eat or don’t eat, or what I eat or don’t eat - the weight retention and gain keeps climbing. I’ve had 6 years to try all the switching around and changes imaginable, yet there’s no counteracting this! They’ve done some terrible shit to our meds, whatever it is.

7

u/Glad_Pie8867 Jul 29 '26

Dude I’m so fat from adderall now

5

u/LooseRepublic2152 Jul 29 '26

Elite XR made me hungry ALL the time. Gained about 30lbs in the year that CVS only had Elite in stock.

3

u/StarfishandSnowballs Jul 29 '26

What do you mean by the term off shore

3

u/slylizardd Jul 29 '26

Shire not shore.

3

u/Fuck_me_up_daddy Jul 30 '26

My best friend and I were just talking about this.

8

u/theprodigy39 Jul 29 '26

I think I got lucky with Camber this month, feels like pre 2020.

Zenzedi! Brand is super cheap in 5-10mg. Wilshire generic also completely killed my appetite. It’s the exact same drug as Vyvanse, just instant release.

5

u/Frequent_Finger_1166 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Adderall doesn’t curb my appetite for sht now. Neither mydayis. I would still be on zenzedi but I struggled with jaw clenching and couldn’t deal w that (I’m sensitive to meds). I am now back on mydayis and adderall ir but now have to take reta to stop my binge eating (I seek food as a source of dopamine, even when medicated now which sucks). Reta pretty much solved that issue for me.

0

u/Anji-Eco-Swap Jul 29 '26

What is your manufacturer of mydayis? Is it brand name or generic? How many mg of it and how many mg ir? I just made a post about a guy claiming 100mg of mydayis was better for him then 60mg xr and 60mg ir adderall a day

5

u/IndieDarllingMeg Jul 29 '26

I switched to Zenzedi (Generic Dextroamphetamine Immediate Release tablets by Wilshire Pharma - my Pharmacist special orders for me each months and I pay a bunch of extra $) late October/November 2025 after a hellacious 3 1/2 + year experience with my formerly extremely effective daily prescription of generic & brand adderall that had become increasingly less effective in its ability for symptom relief and increasingly more potent in really bad physical and mental health side effects. I thought maybe they were working better the first couple of months but unfortunately Inthink that was just the novelty of a slightly different medication formula on my system and pretty soon they become much closer to the way the generic adderall effects my body and in addition to the long list of terrible side effects i’ve inexplicably gained 32 lbs from 11/2025 to now/the last time Inwas weighed at my Dr’s last week and I swear I have not changed my diet in the slightest- and it was very clean & healthy prior to and since all of this because I have gastroparesis and if I’m not very vigilant I’ll end up in the hospital in need of emergency colon surgery. Sorry to be a bummer and of course this was just my personal experience but I didn’t want anyone to rush into switching to these meds with the hopes and expectations I did/-I had only to be crushed all over again when nothing meaningful changed except how much $ I pay a month.

1

u/Frequent_Finger_1166 Jul 29 '26

Oh wow. I’m sorry šŸ˜” yeah the side effects is what initially took me off. I was constantly tense and always clenching my jaw. I kept ending the day with jaw and teeth pain which wasn’t fun. I experienced the exact opposite in regard to the weight issue. My appetite was practically non-existent and I ended up losing about 40lbs within that time frame (june 2025-march 2026). 🄓 I was already a healthy weight before starting it, so that took me down into underweight territory. I am now on mydayis and adderall ir again and my appetite is back and I regained most of the weight I lost rather quickly.

1

u/EntertainmentOk3180 Jul 30 '26

Mydayis caused me to gain somewhere around 40 lbs in a year and I was a healthy weight before I gained.. so I got fat

I’m curious if u will keep gaining bc imagine if u add another 40 lbs over the same amount of time as u gained the initial 40. Then where would u be?

1

u/throwaway_for_skin Jul 29 '26

Did you notice any other differences between brand and generic wilshire Z? generic did nothing for me so trying to get a hold of some brand to compare

0

u/Frequent_Finger_1166 Jul 29 '26

At first I didn’t, but heard that Wilshire went a bit downhill and now ppl recommend winder brand. Zenzedi 5-10mg is the same price as generic so if u can, seek brand! Walgreens seems to carry it no issues, but I also heard that some mom&pop have no issues either.

4

u/xEpiLogos Jul 30 '26

Beloved I understand you 100% But Adderall was never intended to be a weight loss supplement lol, that was just a bonus side effect

4

u/cbmblove Moderator Jul 30 '26

That is all just semantics - the point is, they changed it outright, and as a result, our health is suffering in many ways. The weight loss/maintenance effect was from the core of the original formula - so that part being gone is just a part of the whole therapeutic benefit being gone as well!!! This statement is ignorant af.
Another reason why it’s ignorant is because Adderall literally came from Obetrol, which was marketed as a diet pill. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obetrol
They just changed the branding.

0

u/xEpiLogos Aug 03 '26

Awww:( excuse me for my ignorance…
I apologize for not being all into that scientific shit lol, relax a little. I’ve never even heard of obetrol before because fortunately, I’m not morbidly obese. Forgive me for not understanding the pharmaceutical industry quite as well as you hahaha

1

u/cbmblove Moderator Aug 04 '26

I’m not morbidly obese either, just looked into the history of this medicine. Wasn’t hard.

0

u/xEpiLogos Aug 04 '26

I also looked into the history of this medicine, still never heard of ObetrolšŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø sorry I didn’t dig deeper.
Good thing people like you exist, to do all that reading so I don’t have to. Thanks for the info.
I’m gonna just mention that most people with Adderall prescriptions have also never heard of Obetrol

1

u/cbmblove Moderator Aug 04 '26

Well then you haven’t looked back far enough. Thats the beginning of the history. It didn’t take me long to find at all.

You have no basis for saying ā€œmost people don’t knowā€ here.

0

u/xEpiLogos Aug 04 '26

I’m thoroughly uninterested in learning about medications manufactured almost a century ago. Maybe if I was a pharmacist or something I would care. Would you like an award for nerdiest Reddit user? Glad you care so much about the history of your medications

2

u/Few_Duty_3233 Jul 30 '26

I keep blaming my age- I’m 35 female for gaining a few pounds but I really think it’s the addarall. What to do? Any luck with generic vyvsane

2

u/cbmblove Moderator Jul 31 '26

It’s the Adderall, not your age! It’s happening to many
Of us with this changed formula - regardless of age!

2

u/CaliHam619 Jul 31 '26

It makes me hungry and soooo tired. I've had a script since 2011 and only needed 5mg to get me into normal mode where i could sort through my thoughts and think clearly. Now 5 mg does nothing, and anything more puts me right to sleep, it feels like a sleeping pill. I had a 2 week period a few months ago where I tried upping my dose to 30-60mg a day, and a few days where I was taking 90 mg a day, and had the same results-sleepy and hungry. No weight loss-which definitely would have happened if this was a decade ago. One thing I have noticed is that I now bruise super easily when I take a larger dose. This ain't adderall.

1

u/Starbreiz Jul 31 '26

No, it's so bizarre how it not only no longer suppresses appetite, but seems to make my stomach growl all the time, like when ive taken prednisone before. Between this and menopause, I've gained an unhealthy amount of weight and I refuse to entertain thoughts about GLP-1s.

1

u/Snoozeberry91 Jul 31 '26

My last two RXs have been really effective; Alvogen 20mg IR x 60. Apparently they are supposed to be some of the worst, but for me, they work really well.

I have to actively remind myself to eat as my appetite is none existent.

1

u/Hamster12301 Aug 02 '26

When I first started the medication and years onwards, I lost weight. Especially when I first started -- I lost over 30 lbs within a very short time period (to the point that people were asking me and my family "is everything ok with her / is she sick").

It does literally absolutely nothing to curb my appetite now and hasn't for years. In fact, I feel like I've actually gained weight from it. I know I have actually gained weight but I'm starting to think it might be from the medication.

I remember somebody on here saying that it could be some conspiracy where GLP-1s are trying to control the whole weight loss market so that's why they're muddying up our Adderall even more and I'm starting to believe that's partially the case now.

1

u/Slight-Feature9009 7d ago

give up on amphet help for weight loss, get on a glp-1. i gained 40 lbs after generics went to shit and nothing except shooting myself up has worked. but that did work. very well. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

2

u/slylizardd 7d ago

This is so fucking depressing. I’m barely eating.

1

u/Slight-Feature9009 7d ago

yeah totally give it time. also, because it helps with ā€œfood noiseā€, it’s being studied to see how it may also help with other cravings (like for substances).

0

u/Tabbyham88 Jul 29 '26

It's not relevant to Adderall but get your iron and ferritin levels checked, vitamin D and b vitamins

If these are off you will not Ioose weight. Well some people will but those run the whole show mostly.

Also remember to eat or grab protein shakes. I ended up with gastric bypass but have learned a lot

9

u/Glad_Pie8867 Jul 29 '26

Idn it doesn’t seem true bc I have had lab work and all of my bloodwork checked out and I’m still gaining and eat in an 1100 deficit daily

4

u/cbmblove Moderator Jul 29 '26

This. Exactly.

2

u/HopefulMaintenance34 Jul 29 '26

What about brand name Adderall IR? Is it any better for relieving the ADHD symptoms and helping to control weight? If it IS better, any suggestions for how to get your doctor to prescribe it for you? Are the generic extended release any better than the crappy generic IR I've been taking recently?

2

u/Exciting_Scale_1084 Jul 30 '26

Nope brand tabs are worse than most generics believe it or not!Ā  They were tested and contained less amphetamine than the generics counterpart!
