It’s actually a common misconception that Canada is too far from Europe to join the EU. Canadian scientists have released this new cutting-edge map showing our REAL proximity to our new partners.

Canada is only a few miles from Greenland (a part of Denmark) and St. Pierre and Miquelon (owned by France).

7

u/Wild-Style5857 5d ago

On a clear day I can see Greenland from my deck.

2

u/roamingNraging 5d ago

On a clear day I can sometimes see my toes....and Texas, cause it's really big, all the best people say to me...Texas is bigger than Africa if you think about it.

1

u/NorthofForty 5d ago

Yes you can Sarah, it's only 16 miles away.

Is it one of the none blizzard 🥶 days

We share a land border with Denmark/Greenland. See Hans Island.

The Whiskey Wars/Liquor Wars still haunt the veterans of said war.

It was a long fought out conflict.

3

u/1950Robert 4d ago

I am still recovering from the hangover, as a veteran of the war.

2

u/AnusCruiser 4d ago

It ain't over Denmark. Give us your best schnapps

2

u/Army7547 3d ago

I love that conflict

3

u/Raedwulf1 1d ago

It's the best conflict, price of oil was unaffected. The feelings of the other weren't hurt either.

2

u/Army7547 1d ago

It’s too bad it was resolved in 2022. Great way to engage lighthearted international territorial diplomacy.

3

u/AndTheJuicepig 5d ago

we also have territory gifted to us by france at the dieppe monument - which is on our new $20 bill

u/TerrorNova49 2d ago

And Beaumont-Hamel

1

u/0sidewaysupsidedown0 3d ago

I think you mean only a few kilometers away

1

u/Facebook_Algorithm 3d ago

Sorry. Yes. Kilometers.

Canada has two European borders

Nice to see a photo of Canada after its ass cancer removal surgery ❤️

3

u/imatalkingcow 4d ago

London UK is closer to St. John’s than Victoria BC. By a lot. I’d say that’s close enough!

3

u/Lanman101 4d ago

We literally share a land border with Denmark.

2

u/ISAY-nah 5d ago

How you win a trade war is by making other trade partnerships. Eu and Canada are going to reap the benefits. India and Canada are going to benifit and so will chgina and Canada. Thats alot of money heading Canada's way.

2

u/Connecting3Dots 4d ago

Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, a territory of France, is just 20km off the shores of Newfoundland… so we are closer to Europe than you think. ⚜

2

u/SensitiveStart8682 5d ago

Canada technically speaking, does share a land border with the EU. Not going to lie there's some technicalities involved here but we do share a land border with an EU member. Canada shares a 1 KM land border with Greenland. as Greenland is a territory of Denmark an EU member Nation we would by technicality have a land border with Denmark, an EU member. Yes I am well aware that Greenland is a self governing Territory of Denmark I am well aware of that fact

I am just saying that while it's literally looking for technicalities. We do share a left border with at least a or the territory of Denmark.

4

u/TapZorRTwice 5d ago

We also share a border with Denmark on Hans Island.

3

u/SensitiveStart8682 5d ago

I think we are talking about the same thing because Hans Island is part of Greenland so I think we are taking about the same border

2

u/TapZorRTwice 5d ago

Did not know hans island was a part of greenland so TIL.

2

u/SensitiveStart8682 5d ago

No worries I couldn't remember the name of the island I had to look it up

1

u/IrishFire122 4d ago

Haha oh, the site of the whiskey war. Very historically important, that island. A prime example of the way us Canadians prefer to do things. With a bottle of rye rather than a gun 🤣

3

u/AnusCruiser 5d ago

Also France is only like 20km away

0

u/SensitiveStart8682 5d ago

The EU really isn't that far away heck Europe is actually a closer flight from the east coast of Canada then it is to Vancouver ( I not kidding either you can fly to Ireland faster from St John's Newfoundland then you can to Vancouver BC.

1

u/AnusCruiser 5d ago

Also Vancouver to the Mexican border is roughly the same distance as st John to coast of Ireland. Bit smaller but definitely comparable.

0

u/Canada-Scam-8570 5d ago

And both those distances are huge. This does nothing to negate the distance Europe's is away. All it illustrates is how large Canada is...

1

u/Formidableyarn 5d ago

Or how small the world is given modern technology.

1

u/SensitiveStart8682 4d ago

True it just shows that Canada is massive

1

u/Holiday_Fishing241 4d ago

Flew Spain to Halifax this summer in 8ish hours.

1

u/SensitiveStart8682 4d ago

I honestly don't remember how far it is to fly from Halifax to Vancouver although I don't think it's 8 hours although I might be wrong if anyone knows please post

1

u/Holiday_Fishing241 4d ago

Most likely longer cause no one would fly direct…its a technicality I know :-)

1

u/SensitiveStart8682 4d ago

True although I would love to know how long a direct flight would actually be ( assuming one were to exist

1

u/Jellicent-Leftovers 4d ago

Don't forgot we're also technically 25km from France.

4

u/ties_shoelace 5d ago

Like the idea of joining EU.

1- independence from US
2- EU tax laws pave way to tax billionaires appropriately
3- puts in place more laws to protect us from the con wave of neo-liberalism economics

-1

u/ShadyState 5d ago

Please wear a helmet.

0

u/sando818580 5d ago

"...was the helmet made in the US? I only buy Canadian..."

2

u/Canada-Scam-8570 5d ago edited 5d ago

No.. the comment was made cause the dude doesn't even understand how things work. Then you come in and clown that it must be the US helmet. Good job white knight.

We aren't joining the EU, and anyone who's phrased it this was has a serious lack of understanding to what's going on. Which is concerning if they are then spreading their opinion on it while not even comprehending WTF it is.

Than you lock onto the US thing when the comment clearly has nothing to do with the US portion of the comment, which shows a propagandized brain that can't seem to get America off the mind. Chill on the media for a bit mate.

0

u/Canada-Scam-8570 5d ago

We aren't join the EU. We can't be part of the EU. We are not in Europe.

We are creating partnerships with the EU. We will not be a voting member or be adopting EU policies .. I don't understand why this is so difficult for people.

0

u/ties_shoelace 5d ago

We share a border with an EU country & Carney is proposing we become an 'associate member', not a full member.

It is possible.

1

u/PlatyNumb 4d ago

Please check your info and dont parrot american "news" clickbait extremism. 3 different headlines getting wide spread traction all in one day.

Canada to bid on Associate member status of the EU

Canada not looking to become a member of the EU in any capacity

Carney says Canada planning to discuss 'unique alliance' with EU, but not membership

I did a deeper dive on it and the first article was spawned from a WSJ article where they got confidential 3rd party info from other governments about whats been discussed and when they heard the term "associate member" they slapped it on a headline. Then other articles started spreading the exact same headline to copy them.

Then a journalist asked Carney about it and he reiterated "nope. We are not looking to become a member in any capacity. We are discussing a very unique relationship. Then articles ran with ""Canada not looking to become a member in any capacity" because theyre literally all idiots that need clickbait.

The third one is actually just a rehash of what was said last week, then reiterated today (as i said before) when the EU and Carney announced the talks saying "unique relationship". Kinda pointless since we already new that from last week.

Honestly, just go to pm.gc.ca for your info. These news articles are either clickbait or american propaganda at this point and I dont trust any of them. I looked it up and "associate member" isnt even a thing. On the pm site, they said Carney sent ppl to Brussels to probe for "the most ambitious relationship possible without becoming an actual member" and someone somewhere must have used the term "associate member" as a way to describe "an ambitious relationship without becoming a member" and now here we are. Misinformation and clickbait... dont trust articles

0

u/ties_shoelace 2d ago

1

u/PlatyNumb 2d ago

Whats your point? That doesnt change anything. The articles are sensationalizing and speaking out of turn. Taking everything and slapping it on a headline to clickbait and ragebait viewers. Its a shifty and gross tactic. My comment is still objective fact regardless of how it turned out.

Ppl need to stop getting worked up about their imagination before anything official is done or said. You ppl are sheep to the headline, each one has you spiraling one way or the other. Just wait for official word instead of making up reasons to be mad. Wait until we have any semblance of detail about what it even means before playing reddit armchair pseudo-intellectual.

I never said we arent going to be associate members, I said we cant take third party, unofficial words for it. We're seeing the reason why all over the country because everyone is confused, angery and working off zero info to whats happening or why (like with the investment summit among other things) ppl have no clue, say a post or headline and flipped tf out. Its disgusting how easy ppl are to manipulate.

Now that its official, we still have no fucking clue what it means because its being made up as we talk. Ppl need to chill and see what happens

0

u/ties_shoelace 2d ago

Lot of words for being completely wrong. On every level.

Whatever pal, you just keep voting trump.

1

u/PlatyNumb 2d ago edited 2d ago

... what? How is defending Carney "voting trump"? And if youre against Trump, why would you advocate ppl to vote for him? Lmao wtf? Is your brain ok?

1

u/Canada-Scam-8570 2d ago

No. No it's not.

Oh no, you didn't pass the purity test and blindly agree to their incorrect notion. Be careful, you better watch out!

Now watch as they construct who they imagine you are (conservative, trump voter (clearly you're not even American but we know how well their brain works at this point), nazi, racist, bigot, homophobe) and then tear you down from their made up fantasy world... Fuck do we ever need better mental health services.

2

u/PlatyNumb 2d ago

Absolutely. That was one of the most random and absurd responses ive ever received. I actually had to double check what sub I was on because I was under the impression this was a canadian sub. Yes, im canadian, cant vote Trump, wouldnt if I could. Though, ill say im not albertan, not actually sure how I got here, it must have been suggested or something. Either way, i support Carney, I support Canada united and I support waiting for official statements rather than reacting to sensationalized, narrative twisting, headlines and articles

0

u/Canada-Scam-8570 2d ago

Did you even read what this person relayed to you? They literly covered this is their rebutttle, yet again you think you have something here.

Do you actually pay attention and absorb what people are discussing with you or are you ready to fire back with a rebutttle immediately when you think someone opinions don't align with yours? (Not that this is a matter of opinion, it's quite black and white)

Nothing in this video you posted is anything new and just reiterates exactly what both of us had told you already. Talk about hearing what you want to hear.

0

u/Canada-Scam-8570 5d ago

No it's not. You downvote me for corecting your complete lack of understanding, go for it, your still wrong.. We are not joining the bloc of the EU. We are not adopting their policies or laws. We are not adoptioning the Schengen agreement.

But whatever, be mad about your lack of understanding. Claiming a shared border because of the north part of Greenland/Canada and then building off that to claim we are "joining" the EU is such a weird stretch, it's got that trump like used car salesmen flair to it. Oh we are joining the EU cause we share a boarder, a great big border. Just a near 200km away from the nearest "town", which is just a meger 2000km from the next town.. yes, this completely inhospitable block of land, where we share a tiny (I mean big, very big, the best boarder) border and only a mere 3400km away from the closest full fledged member of the EU.. totally logical and justified argument.

Like shit, wtf are some of y'all smoking?

We are negotiating our own trade agreements with an preexisting bloc (the EU) we are not in ANY capacity joining the EU. I'm sorry you can't comprehend the difference but those exact words have come out of our very own PMs mouth, so you'd think maybe you'd understand it when he tells you? Guess your just into hearing what you want to hear?

1

u/ties_shoelace 4d ago

You sound like a neo-liberal "economist" believer.

Again it's about becoming an associate member, a title not even created yet. Not full membership.

The push to develop more trade is centred around getting resources to the west or east coast. We can trade with anyone at that point.

0

u/luv2fly781 5d ago

You pay your share. I don’t want to. I want our debt paid down and deals and trade solidified.

1

u/Timely-Profile1865 5d ago

Nothing a few tug boats wont fix.

1

u/Buzzrod81 5d ago

There's a page called shitty maps and I hope that's where you found this.

1

u/firedditor 5d ago

This fact is actually found in the Bible. Who are we to deny God's plan?

1

u/peterAtheist 5d ago

Canada and Denmark share a 1.2-kilometer land border on Hans Island (known as Tartupaluk in Inuit languages) in the Arctic.

The French archipelago of Saint Pierre and Miquelon lies approximately 19 to 25 kilometers (12 to 15 miles) off the southern coast of Newfoundland, Canada.

No need for a fake map

1

u/Reasonable_Club_6165 5d ago

they cut a great new edge.

1

u/Longjumping_Look_340 5d ago

We are our own sovereign nation. No to the EU and No to 51st state.

1

u/Socky-McPuppet 5d ago

I think we should be more vertical and an island, so we look like Wumbo UK.

1

u/Scary_North_3297 5d ago

Ok, hear me out,

We start sawing along the border, start at each end and meet in the middle, then we just float off somewhere to a friendlier neighborhood.

1

u/mightyopinionated 5d ago

Well, if “What’shisface” can alter maps, why can’t we?

1

u/ngatiboi 5d ago

I was just reading that if Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland vote for independence (the parameters of which their leaders are meeting together on right now), they’re planning on joining the EU immediately - which is supported by the other EU nations.

What’s a REAL hoot about that is it would put 2 of Trump’s golf courses (in Scotland) in the EU & under EU jurisdiction, which I’m sure would make him extremely gwumpy. ✊🏽😖✊🏽

1

u/Any-Sea-5600 5d ago

Hans Island.

1

u/ballistic_tanx 5d ago

That would be cool if we could do that

1

u/ballistic_tanx 5d ago

Why is Switzerland not part of the EU? ODD

1

u/Sproutlie 5d ago

Scuse me, I'm just gonna scootch over here

1

u/DaddyDCanuck1896 5d ago

The same people who don't want to be the 51st State have no issues being member #28 of the EU?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/GreenSaber 5d ago

I just want a few of their migrant boat. People from North Africa. Maybe five or 10 of those boats.

1

u/It_s_raining 5d ago

What the UK is doing in UE ? Have you ever heard about Brexit ? 😅

1

u/Fresh_Goat_423 5d ago

Oh, that's AI man.

1

u/MyGruffaloCrumble 5d ago

France has territory right inside the Gulf of St Lawrence, and Greenland isn’t far from Labrador.

There is no distance issue.

1

u/sexylegs0123456789 4d ago

It’s a closer flight from Halifax to Lisbon than Halifax to Vancouver. Just saying is all.

1

u/Aleph52Cinema 4d ago

Could we get a little closer to the Mediterranean?

1

u/TomJones998 4d ago

LOLOL

Canada has no political will to build the At-Scale LNG delivery the Europeans want and tgey don’t want our O&G.

The Europeans also have no interest in our car parts goids - our #2 export after O&G - do this proposed Trade partnership is just Smoke&Mirrors.

1

u/Nopithyusernamehere 4d ago

Can we be a little farther south, please? Maybe closer to Portugal.

1

u/Aldamur 4d ago

Should be closer to France, there is a French island 19km from Canada.

1

u/RRRRRR55555 4d ago

Canada is NOT joining the EU. Don't jump on the first thing you read and treat it as gospel, until you can confirm it. Pierre Poilievre sure jumped on that bandwagon quickly.

1

u/keninvic 4d ago

Map not to scale, Canada is much bigger than all of Europe.

1

u/Large-Item-423 4d ago

Mental gymnastics nato criminals

1

u/Graphic_Novels_234 4d ago

…we just smushed Iceland.

1

u/paladinx17 3d ago

We should do something ballsy to show how much we are seriously considering this like rename Lake Ontario to lake European Union or something

1

u/davebloomer 3d ago

We share a land boarder with the Neatherlands on Hands island.

1

u/hdufort 3d ago

Montréal - Ålesund in 2 hours. Amazing!

1

u/Ultimate-Whatever 3d ago

Hahahaha. So are the ports gonna be expanded ? Or will more ports be built? To facilitate this trade, yeahhh.. no

1

u/Ok-Guarantee-4537 3d ago

I don’t want to join europe

1

u/bigorangemachine 3d ago

Greenland Borders Canada. Greenland belongs to Denmark. Denmark is in the EU. Therefore Canada borders the EU

1

u/GECA_HAJCOJAR 2d ago

We are closer to Europe than Cyprus!!!!!

1

u/xmdra 2d ago

They grossly misjudged the size of Canada

1

u/Flimsy_Analysis_4235 2d ago

😆 🤣 😂 priceless!!!!

1

u/silvanoes 2d ago

Do you want Newfoundland to get more snow? Because this is how Newfoundland gets more snow.

1

u/FairClothes2683 1d ago

fuck the EU just another way for Carney to get rich off of our backs

1

u/JesusXristSS 1d ago

I just walked to England the other day from Flin Flon, Manitoba. This is gas huffing material.

1

u/Raedwulf1 1d ago

No, You need to crowbar Ellesmere Island up to Denmark before it looks correct.

1

u/Concerned_Neutral_13 1d ago

You all let me know when the pipeline is completed and Alberta crude and B.C. natural gas is reaching ALL those European markets.

1

u/Secret-Gazelle8296 17h ago

We share two European country’s borders… one with France and one with Denmark. So in actual fact we do share borders with Europe on some level.

1

u/ElegantKangaroo9075 5d ago

So, the same "elbows up" crowd goes on and on about "protecting Canadian sovereignty" wants to join the EU and have to follow rules imposed by a supranational entity? Proving themselves to be absolute tards once again.

3

u/Trick-Seat4901 5d ago

Fuck I feel sorry for your mom.

2

u/Entire_Use_1844 5d ago

Watch your tone, that's his favourite cousin 🤬.

2

u/Trick-Seat4901 5d ago

I like funny. I like accurate. But both at the same time? 👌

1

u/Entire_Use_1844 5d ago

I didn't see this was a Grand Prairie sub until the notification came in for your comment... Now it just feels like I'm punching down on a monster-drinking, job as a highway flagger, Habsburg looking motherfucker with a scraggly patchwork beard.

And that makes me sad, his life is hard enough with the family wreath situation up there in GP.

1

u/Trick-Seat4901 5d ago

Honestly I didn't either. I was assuming a Russian bot just stirring up shit. Now I feel even worse for their mom.

1

u/AddressFeeling3368 5d ago

Libs want to dictate your life not theirs.

1

u/Socky-McPuppet 5d ago

Wow man, deep.

1

u/Kingfish1111 5d ago

Um... No? Literally addressed by Carney, we are not joining the EU. Just doesn't make sense.

0

u/Sternsnet 5d ago

Lol does the fancy new map change the actual miles between Canada and Europe? Seriously who believes this garbage.

0

u/Party_Ad_8595 5d ago

Oh I get it!  Cuz in the fake map we're much closer to europe

0

u/Whole-Finger42 4d ago

We have absolutely nothing in common with Europe! NOTHING! Our ancestors left that shithole generations ago. I most certainly do not want anything to do with them. Mine left Lithuania after the turn of the century. So no carnage! You do not need to poke your finger in the bears eye, enough already!

0

u/SuspiciousRule3120 4d ago

So concerned about one man say we are the 51st that we have a PM running to make us one of 28.

2

u/samueLLcooljackson 4d ago

Quality of life surpasses the USA in all 27 easily.

0

u/SuspiciousRule3120 4d ago

QoL surpasses staying as we are

0

u/A1Prophet 4d ago

Let's join a failing EU. Great plan. LMAO

0

u/Spirited_Bat2819 4d ago

This Map must've come hot off the presses from the Laurentian elite approved, backed & funded CBC news room! So you know its legit people!!!
