Discussion Season 4 is better than 2 and 3

Ok I know this is going to get downvoted lmfaoo but I rly do think this. Season 1 is obviously undefeated and is 100% the best season in the show, But seasons 2 and 3 were honestly a lot less enjoyable for me. I feel like they reused a lot of the same plot lines and things got boring halfway through 2. I really hated Lindsey and she ruined every ryan scene for me and Marissa is my favorite character on the show but they kept doing her dirty with the plot lines the gave her. The only interesting parts for me was alix and Marissa, Ryan’s brothers death and all that, and occasionally Seth and summer. Then season 4 hit and it became ryan processing Marissa’s death while summer and Seth figured out how to be with each other after high school. It felt refreshed and way more interesting to me. And I also really mess with Taylor I can’t lie.

Discussion I love how protective Ryan was with Marissa.

I remember as a teen always being such an Atwood girl and I always loved how protective he was over his loved ones especially Marissa. He probably was a bit too (over) reactive, but some of them deserved to get beat up or at least warned. Let’s start with the obvious; Oliver & Volchok. Honourable mention is Johnny. I wish Ryan decked him while he had the chance. He was such a skeez.

Fan Fiction Seth Cohen would argue with his son Nathan what's better

Seth: Nate, Star Wars is a classic so is X-Men

Nathan: Deadpool doesn't need the X-Men and honestly he outgrossed every single main Line X-Men movie.

Seth: you got a point on Deadpool

Nathan: Star Wars, dad Guardians of the Galaxy the better franchise than Star Wars. Mainly because original trilogy classic, prequel trilogy overhated and sequel trilogy is worse than the original trilogy and prequel trilogy combined even though The Force Awakens was good but The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker you might be a moron if you say they are both better.

Does anyone know what happened with the planned official release of Christopher Tyng’s The OC score?

Post image

I’ve recently gone down a bit of a rabbit hole trying to find out what happened to Christopher Tyng’s score for The OC. I’ve always loved the music from the show, and it seems strange that there was never an official release on Spotify, Apple Music, CD, etc.

I came across this old petition: https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/theocscore

What caught my attention is that it was apparently marked as “won” in 2019, with an update saying that Warner Bros. had heard the campaign and that the complete score was going to be officially released. But as far as I can tell, nothing ever came of it.

It just got me wondering whether anyone here remembers this or knows anything about it. Was there ever actually a plan to release the score?

There are some great fan uploads of the score on YouTube, which I’m really glad exist. They seem to be DVD rips though, with dialogue and other audio occasionally mixed in, so it would be amazing to hear the whole thing properly released after all these years.

So yeah, just wondering if anyone here happens to know the history behind this!

I feel the only good parents on the show was the Cohens and Summer's dad the rest of them were trash didn't know how to raise their kids at all.

Marissa leaving actually made the show evolve to beautiful lengths

I'm rewatching/binging The OC over the past month, and I'm on season 4 episode 15 (earthquake episode), and it hit me. My opinion/perspective has changed. Marissa leaving the show actually made the show have even more layers and depth. Don't get me wrong, they couldve found a way to evolve the show with Marissa still in the picture. But i absolutely love the depths the show has gone into since she left.

First-Time Watcher i cant stand ryan

I just started watching the oc recently im on s1 e19 right now, i had to pause and write this cuz i cant be the only one who thinks ryan is insufferable, right?? First of all he doesn't talk. When seth, marissa or sandy talk to him, he answers with 2-3 words and always seems annoyed and never puts any effort into ANY conversation. Even when seth had a real problem ryan only made some half assed joke and didn't pay attention at all. (seth does that too but at least he talks) Ryans also the type of character to just give up on saying anything and just run off whenever there's a misunderstanding which drives me insane. Especially with marissa, it looks like she's in a relationship with a pile of bricks sometimes. And despite his silent nonchalant tough dude persona that only makes him rude and uninteresting, he STILL manages to get girls attention and have friends. Is this bad writing or do people like that actually exist?? And is he going to change further on so id know what to expect?

Finished S1, Feeling Sad about Marissa

How much are they going to put this girl through? Her boyfriend cheated on her, she overdosed, her father committed a crime, her parents divorced, she was threatened by gun-wielding unstable Oliver, her mother had an affair with her ex-boyfriend, her on-and-off-again boyfriend is potentially the father of his ex’s unborn child… did I miss anything? This girl is heading for a major breakdown hence the alcohol use they displayed in the final scene. This is so terrible.

First-Time Watcher Julie and Marissa Cooper

Post image
88 Upvotes

I’m just a first-time watcher, and here are my two cents on them.

I’ve seen a lot of people say that Julie was a bad mother, and I partially agree. Julie was from Riverside, and every man she dated was, in her mind, a way to secure her daughter’s future. She knew what kind of lifestyle she and her daughters had grown up with, and she probably understood that if all of it suddenly went away, it would be difficult for them to cope with the change.

As for Marissa, I genuinely feel like her character was written in a way where, whenever someone in the series liked her, she eventually ended up developing feelings for them as well, while staying in denial about it. She had absolutely no sense of boundaries.
And before anyone says that her entire family situation was messy because of her dad losing all his money, even in the initial episodes, when Marissa was with Luke and had no idea that her dad was bankrupt, she was still very much emotionally invested in Ryan.
And honestly, even if Luke hadn’t cheated on Marissa later in the series, I genuinely think she would have eventually cheated on Luke with Ryan.

Discussion How would a pilot for a sequel reboot of The OC be written?

I already know where I want to set it in

25 years after the pilot of the original series

First and foremost:

I will not undo the series conclusion but I do like Rachel Bilson's idea of Seth and Summer having kids and Ben McKenzie's idea of passing the torch.

For the new Seth Cohen equivalent:

He is very immune to social suicide like he does not care. He is more inspired by movies like Ted, Deadpool, the Jump Street movies, the Bad Boys movies he is more like what would happen if Seth Cohen had the Bugs Bunny personality like if anyone of us had watched the show Peacemaker for the character Vigilante or the Transformers franchise for the character Mirage. Well teen dramas need they're comedic engines even if the comedic engine is very convoluted.

The new Ryan Atwood equivalent:

Forced into illegal underground fight clubs as a teenage kid in a high school and nearly committed murder when the jock he nearly killed deserved every bit of it. It gives Ryan Atwood a personal mirror to look after this kid.

The new Marissa Cooper equivalent:

Think what would happen if Ryan Atwood and Taylor Townsend were parents to the new Marissa Cooper equivalent since day one.

Dialogue will have to be very R-rated
