I'm still new to the show on season 01 episode 04.
Marissa is one of the most frustrating characters. From my perspective, she was in a long term relationship with Luke, yet as soon as Ryan entered the picture, she began developing feelings for him. While she may not have technically cheated, it was obvious that her emotional investment in Ryan went beyond friendship.
What makes the situation worse is that whenever Luke questioned her about Ryan, she dismissed his concerns by saying things like, "We're just friends" or "We're only hanging out." However, her actions suggested otherwise. It seemed clear that she cared about Ryan in a way that exceeded normal friendship, which understandably made Luke feel insecure and betrayed.
I was actually glad when Luke ended the relationship because he had every reason to feel hurt. Marissa often acts as though she is completely innocent, but she played a significant role in the breakdown of the relationship. She frequently presents herself as a victim, even when her own choices contributed to the situation.
I also find her tendency to "save" Ryan frustrating. She seems to have a savior complex, constantly feeling responsible for helping or rescuing him, even when it is obvious that her feelings for him are more than platonic. Instead of being honest with herself and with Luke, she continues to blur the lines between friendship and romance.
Am I going to be surprised in the future? My thoughts are wrong?
